“I know many famous doctors, maybe I even know the school and teacher you studied under!” Katrina looked at Flynn with a half-smile, clearly warning him not to try any tricks. “You can’t fool me.”
Flynn calmly replied, “I never went to college. Everything I know was taught to me by an old crazy man and his surname is Newman.”
The year he graduated high school, Adrianna, his mother, died and he caused a scene at the Clark family’s house. He was sent to Demon Island Prison and lost his chance to go to college.
All of his skills were learned from the crazy old man who didn’t like talking about his past or giving out his full name. Everyone only knew him as Mr. Newman.
After entering Demon Island, Flynn became Mr. Newman’s apprentice and learned martial arts, medicine and geomancy from him for five years.
When they had their final showdown, Flynn won against Mr. Newman in a close match.
Mr. Newman was very happy with Flynn’s progress and left on a journey after serving his sentence.
“Never went to college? Went to prison? And your master is crazy?” The crowd stared in shock.
Elis father-son duo frowned tightly.
They never expected Flynn’s past would be so “unworthy”.
“Did you hear that, Mr. Pearce?” Travis sneered. “He didn’t even go to college and has been to prison before.”
“This kind of person can cure illnesses?”
“You guys definitely ran into a scammer!”
Katrina shook her head and said, “Mr. Pearce, how many good people can there be in prison? His master may be a quack doctor who was thrown into jail for killing someone.”
“Or maybe he’s not even a quack doctor, just an old con artist!”
“How could you learn anything good from someone like him?”
“You guys are confused. How dare you entrust your family’s lives to a scammer who has been in jail?”
The Pearce family fell silent.
Could it really be just a coincidence that he saved Elis?
Flynn coldly smiled and calmly said, “Even in the imperial court, there are incompetent rats. There is no shortage of hidden masters in rural areas.”
“If we judge based on background alone, it only shows your ignorance and naivety!”
“How dare you!” Travis angrily exclaimed. “I don’t know what methods you used to deceive the Pearce family members.”
“But since I discovered it, I won’t allow you to continue deceiving them!”
“Get out of here right now, or I’ll send you back to prison!”
Flynn turned to Elis and asked, “Do you agree with me, old man?”
Elis cleared his throat and suggested, “Mr. Clark, why don’t we try the injection Dr. Richardson brought first?” He had lived for over seventy years and was well-versed in many things.
Even though Flynn’s reputation was tarnished, it wasn’t enough to completely discredit him. In this world, who knew what kind of hidden talents existed?
Travis rudely interjected, “Mr. Pearce, this guy is nothing but a street rat. There’s no need to be polite with him.”
“Thank goodness we came here. Otherwise, Callie would have been in danger!” Katrina added worriedly.
“He might even scam you out of a lot of money!”
No matter where Travis went, people always greeted him with smiles.
Unlike others, Flynn carried an air of arrogance, as if he were the undefeated war god of the North.
How can a lowly ex-convict have the audacity to hold his head high and present himself with a cold demeanor in front of the city’s elite? Shouldn’t he be bowing down and trembling in fear when speaking?
Katrina glanced at Flynn and said to Elis, “Don’t worry, Mr. Pearce, I will cure Callie’s illness!”
Travis, with a hint of pride, added, “Mr. Pearce, Katrina has just been nominated for the Ostrad Medical Technology Award.”
“Her ability is unquestionable, so rest assured!”
The crowd was in an uproar.
“A nomination for the Medical Technology Award? Oh my god! That’s the highest award in Ostrad medical community! If selected, it’s possible to become a fellow after accumulating several years of experience! Dr. Richardson is so young and has unlimited potential!”
“Dr. Richardson has this ability and can definitely cure Callie. Our family believes in her strength!”
“Yes, yes! Dr. Richardson must be stronger than some quack doctors out there! It’s a good thing she came to the city; otherwise, our family would have been fooled by those frauds!”
Katrina enjoyed everyone’s flattery and looked at Flynn with even more disdain.
A lowly scumbag who still pretended to be something he wasn’t. She really didn’t know where this con artist got his self-confidence from.
Flynn came and went as he pleased, indifferently saying, “Okay, that’s your choice. I don’t care.”
“After injecting the patient with medication, if she experiences seizures or becomes more promiscuous in her behavior…”
“I hope you won’t bother me again!”
It was difficult enough for him to come here on his own accord. Since the Pearce family didn’t trust him anyway, it was time to leave.
Katrina sneered sarcastically, “Did you see that, Mr. Pearce? He couldn’t keep up with his lies anymore and had to resort to scare tactics again!”
Travis saw Flynn acting like he didn’t care and became furious, “Kid, I hate people like you who have no skills but just scam others for a living!”
“You better get out of here from the Pearce family right now or else I’ll send someone over here immediately to arrest you!”
Flynn left without looking back, a cold smile on his face.
“Mr. Pearce, it’s your kindness that gave the scammer an opportunity,” said Travis.
“These days scams come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re not careful, you won’t be able to find any loopholes! You have to be more vigilant!”
Elis laughed awkwardly. “It was my mistake. Please ask Dr. Richardson to go upstairs and treat Callie.”
Katrina nodded at everyone and headed up the stairs.
The hysterical screams from upstairs were no longer audible after a while, replaced by normal conversation between Callie and Katrina.
“Hey! After one shot, Callie is back to normal. This disease that even Dr. Woods can’t cure was treated by Dr. Richardson! It’s amazing!”
“I knew it! The brilliant doctor of medicine must have researched her potions well. That Clark guy is lucky he wasn’t here or he’d lose face and want to crawl into a hole!”
“That person is just a clown trying to please the crowd. Why bother mentioning him? He brings bad luck!”
The Pearce family rejoiced greatly at this news while also feeling grateful towards the Richardson family.
“Mr. Richardson really had good intentions when he brought Katrina back for Callie’s treatment.”
“Your son likes Callie, right? When she’s better, I’ll make sure they get engaged!”
Travis exclaimed with excitement. “Wow! My family is so lucky to have such a great girl like Callie. It must be our good fortune from past lives!”
“Don’t worry, Mr. Pearce. When Callie marries into our family, I’ll treat her like my own daughter,” Travis assured him.
Elis had many connections and knew several important officials in the state. His network would greatly benefit Travis’s career development.
Family ties may be fake, but connections were real.
Elis nodded with a smile, clearly pleased with the Richardson family as well.
However, upstairs was not quiet for even five minutes before screams and moans could be heard along with sounds of clothes being torn apart.
“Katrina, don’t leave me! Let me touch you or you can touch me instead. My head hurts so much it feels like it’s going to explode!” Callie screamed obscenities while Katrina ran downstairs in panic.
“The medication isn’t working. Callie is having severe convulsions and her brain seems damaged causing madness!” Katrina was disheveled. All her buttons were undone and half of her chest was exposed bouncing wildly as she ran down the stairs…
