Winifred cleaned herself up with just a few words.
How could such a coincidence exist in this world? Winifred asked Aubrey to wait for her at the school gate at five o’clock, and she was stabbed shortly after arriving. Not only did she lose the child in her belly, but she also lost the right to be a mother.
This was undoubtedly a huge blow to Aubrey. She hated… When Gregory came to the hospital, the child in her belly had already been delivered, just as Winifred said. The four to five-month fetus had already formed, with distinct features, a son. And just like that, it was gone. And because her uterus was severely injured, the doctors told her that she might never be able to conceive again in her life.
Would Gregory want a woman who couldn’t conceive?
Even if he did, it would be just for fun, with no value or use. When she grew old, she wouldn’t even have anyone to take care of her.
And what was most despicable was that she appeared at the school gate, and so many people saw what happened. Even without checking her phone, she could imagine the discussions about her online.
Why didn’t Aubrey hate Winifred? If she hadn’t asked her to wait at the school gate, she wouldn’t have been stabbed by a crazy woman and lost her child.
The child she used to gain prestige was gone, and her future career was gone too.
Aubrey poured her heart out to Gregory. Gregory wasn’t stupid. Analyzing everything, the whole incident was the work of Winifred.
He never expected that his daughter, whom he had raised, would have such a hidden dark side. It was too ruthless.
And now, his once obedient daughter was looking at him innocently, asking him to have fewer mistresses outside and blaming him for everything.
But he had no way to argue against it; no one had ever dared to talk to him like that, not even his beloved daughter!
For the first time, Gregory lost his temper in front of Winifred. He swept the dining table clean with his hand, almost hitting Winifred with the dishes. Luckily, Leland was there to pull Winifred behind him just in time.
Gregory was fuming, his eyes burning with anger as he glared at Leland. He swept the table clear of dishes worth thousands of dollars, turning them into shards on the ground, and the nearby servants didn’t dare to take a breath.
Winifred stood behind Leland, never feeling as safe as she did right now, wrapped in a blanket of security.
Gregory wouldn’t ever raise a hand against his daughter, even in anger. He said to her sternly, “Aubrey wants to see you at the hospital.”
Winifred peeked out her head, facing the still-angry Gregory without a hint of fear, smiling gently, “I’ll bring her some gifts tomorrow when I go see her.”
After Gregory left, the maids cleaned up the mess on the ground. Interrupting a meal halfway through was irritating for anyone, and Mr. Hamilton, who was sitting nearby, advised Winifred, “Miss, you shouldn’t speak to Mr. in that way.”
“Did I? Isn’t it because he’s fooling around outside, keeping mistresses, and beating children that Aubrey had to suffer?” Winifred retorted.
Mr. Hamilton sighed, the wrinkles on his forehead becoming more pronounced. He spoke solemnly, “Mr. doesn’t want you to be like him.”
“It’s too late. That night, my body was covered in his blood. I’m just naturally evil!” Winifred ordered the kitchen, “Cook two bowls of noodles.”
To talk about her own evil in such a matter-of-fact way, perhaps only Winifred could do it.
Tonight was not very pleasant, and the two bowls of beef noodles were served quickly. Leland stayed silent, eating heartily, finishing his bowl in no time.
Winifred barely ate a few bites and felt full, so she pushed her bowl of noodles in front of Leland.
Leland, who had just put down his fork, picked it up again and ate Winifred’s leftovers, just like usual.
“Are you really going to see that woman at the hospital tomorrow?” Leland was worried about Winifred’s safety, watching her go upstairs. From her back, he could see a hint of undeniable loneliness.
“I am, why wouldn’t I? I want to see what tricks that woman can come up with.” Winifred continued, not looking back. “You’re coming with me tomorrow.”
When they reached upstairs, Winifred went straight to her room and closed the door.
When Winifred was in a bad mood, she usually had two common ways of venting – locking herself in her room to sleep or calling on Leland.
Tonight, Winifred seemed very tired, not even having the energy to call on Leland.
Tomorrow was Saturday, and Winifred usually slept in on her days off. She had to wake up at six for school on weekdays but could sleep until nine and a half on weekends.
But today, she got ready by seven, surprising Leland. He rarely got to see this side of her, one that was so early and youthful.
“Hurry up and get ready. I’m going to the hospital,” Winifred said.
Leland nodded, slightly surprised that Winifred was up so early on a Saturday. He didn’t say much and went back to his room to freshen up quickly. Downstairs, he made a sandwich and followed Winifred to the car to go to the hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, there were several fruit stalls outside. Winifred got out of the car and picked some fruits.
The lady boss kindly asked if she wanted to take them to the hospital, what illness the patient had, and if they needed to avoid certain foods.
Winifred asked, “What fruits should someone who has had a miscarriage avoid eating?”
“Don’t buy fruits that are cooling, like watermelon, pomelo…”
The lady boss analyzed the types of fruits to avoid after a miscarriage. As she spoke, she noticed Winifred staring at the fruits she mentioned.
“Then, give me a cantaloupe, pomelo, loquat, mangosteen, persimmon. Just these. Put them in a fruit basket and make it look neat.”
“This…” Wasn’t the person in the hospital her enemy? The lady boss had never seen such a beautiful young lady, even more beautiful than a TV star. Surprisingly, she was so kind that she talked about avoiding foods after miscarriage. Finding out that all her advice about the taboo fruits was going to be ignored, she was taken aback. “Those fruits are not suitable for someone who has had a miscarriage.”
“Who said I was going to give them to someone who had a miscarriage? You’ve misunderstood. Just as I said, pack the fruit basket, and I’ll pay for it,” Winifred said bluntly. “You price it, and I’ll pay. Round it down.”
After paying, Winifred asked Leland to carry the basket. It was quite heavy when all the fruits were packed neatly in it.
The two entered the hospital, and Winifred filled out a visitation form at the front desk. Following the room number sent by Gregory on her phone, she headed towards Aubrey’s room.
Aubrey was lying in bed, with an IV drip in her hand.
Winifred arrived just in time as the attending physician had finished checking and left the room. Aubrey had hired three nurses to take care of her, despite being alone. The three nurses were busy, although it wasn’t clear what they were busy with.
Winifred was spotted by the nurses as soon as she arrived at the door. “Who are you?”
“I heard from my father that Auntie Liu wanted to see me in the hospital, so… I came over early this morning. I also bought some fruits at the hospital entrance, brought them in, and asked Auntie Liu what she wanted to eat.”
