Chapter 474: Absolute

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

Elisa furrowed her brow as she listened to Louis’ words.
“I always feel like Finn won’t be so easily defeated. Can you arrange for someone to keep an eye on him?” she asked.
Louis agreed, “Sure, it’s good to be cautious.”
“And also…” Elisa paused, hesitating before speaking, “Aunt Burns doesn’t know about me and Hamish. I’m worried that due to her guilt towards Hamish, she might give him the cooperation taken from Finn. Hamish is more trouble than Finn, and we need to be on guard.”
Louis also pondered this: the possibility is not nonexistent.
Elisa knew all too well about her own capabilities and the dirty tactics of Hamish. She was afraid that she would have to strive for a lifetime to match his ruthlessness.
Sensing her unease, Louis comforted her by running his hand through her hair, saying, “Don’t worry, I’ve got everything under control. I’ll be there for you even if the sky falls down.”
Elisa’s tense expression softened, and she smiled as she sat on Louis’ lap, leaning into his embrace and gazing up at him, she playfully bit him and said, “Since being with you, I’ve started to doubt if my charm is not enough.”
Louis, feeling a rush, his gaze wandering, and his heart uncontrollably pounding, found Elisa’s hand resting on his right chest.
His heart itched as if a little kitten was constantly tickling it.
Looking at his rigid posture, Elisa shook her head, her smile not fading in the least. “So, with me being this close to you, don’t you feel anything?” she said, poking his Adam’s apple with her slender index finger.
Louis, taut and unable to even swallow his saliva, sat stiffly, gripping the armrest with his left hand, fearing Elisa might fall, while his right hand held her waist.
Louis gazed down at the top of Elisa’s head, his throat dry, “I do…”
“I see, then why don’t you take the initiative? Why are you so shy? Your face is turning red,” she teased.
Louis seemed to have exhausted all his courage on self-love, as he blushed intensely at the prospect of real action. The more shy he felt, the more Elisa wanted to tease him.
With gritted teeth, Louis firmly gripped Elisa’s waist with both hands.
Before Elisa could react, she was lifted off the ground, Louis holding her waist, carefully placing her on the floor.
His eyelids tinged with red, the corners of his eyes slightly upturned, he looked deeply at Elisa, who hurriedly ran into the bathroom and closed the door with a bang.
Elisa blinked and then burst into laughter, covering her mouth as she leaned on the table.
Louis didn’t come out for half an hour. His face was as red as a boiled shrimp, and he didn’t dare to look at Elisa. However, his half-hour absence vividly proved Elisa’s charm.
Seeing Louis so embarrassed, Elisa stopped teasing him and continued discussing the script with him.
As they talked, Elisa thought of Lila. Lila had been missing for several months, and numerous paparazzi had been watching her, but they hadn’t found any leads.
Lila’s social media still had many fans, but compared to before, it wasn’t as active, not even ranking in the top three hundred.
Could she be dead?
It wasn’t an impossibility.
Lila had violated Hamish’s taboos; she had handed him an opportunity. If Hamish couldn’t eliminate Lila this time, Elisa would look down on his methods.
Elisa had read somewhere that when someone is good, there’s no one better in the world, and when one disapproves, there’s no one more ruthless. Hamish had been the cruelest to her in her life, leaving her half-dead. And Lila had deceived him and even cuckolded him, yet he had let her go.
And he still dared to ask her if she could love him again.
It was laughable. Love him for what? For his past indifference? Or for his combination punches treating her like a dog? Or for his infidelity and constant lying?
Why could Lila change her identity and start a new life in the entertainment industry? It was because she had someone behind her, someone with power.
Elisa had long since found out who was behind Lila: Hugo, a small-time thug before, who was later disposed of by Hamish and then took over as the boss of the Bankshire underground casino. He had managed to recruit a group of henchmen, showing his capabilities.
After dealing with Lila, Elisa had been closely monitoring the Bankshire casino. Strangely, several months had passed, and there was no news of Lila, nor anynews from the Bankshire underground casino. Bankshire was still under Hamish’s control, most likely.
It would be better if there were fewer troubles. Even though she was capable, dealing with too many things at once was overwhelming.

Ariadne’s words at the promotional event for the film had gone viral and the buzz hadn’t died down. Everyone’s attention was focused on Elisa potentially collaborating with a luxury brand.
Which luxury brands were looking for endorsements in the country recently? There were only a few luxury brands, and even fewer top-tier ones. Among them was Plinopis.
If Elisa truly signed with Plinopis, she would firmly establish her position as the leading lady of the entertainment industry. With her exceptional looks, acting skills, and impressive box office results, her commercial value was outstanding. When looking at the entire entertainment industry, any move she made would outshine others; it would be as if she had an unfair advantage in life.
Consider that just a year ago, Elisa was being heavily criticized online for her style and appearance. To put it mildly, it was utterly mundane. But starting from June of last year, within just a year, she seemed to have gained an unfair advantage. Those who opposed her didn’t have a good outcome. Every time someone mocked her or underestimated her, they were swiftly proved wrong. It was something not even fiction could capture.
Elisa’s fans had found out about her potential collaboration with Plinopis. The news was 80% confirmed, and they were just waiting for the official announcement.
Elisa’s fans were used to grand events and remained calm, stating that they would only believe the news once it was officially announced.
However, overnight, a group of accounts disguised as “Elisa’s die-hard fans” began spreading rumors online. They claimed that Elisa had already secured the Plinopis endorsement. While it seemed like praise for Elisa, in reality, it was a deliberate attempt to bring down other artists and tarnish Elisa’s image. The male artist doesn’t matter, but the female artist in the same position as Elisa is secretly competing for resources. Initially, their positions were neck and neck, but who knew that Elisa’s appearance would upset the balance.
If Elisa were to secure the endorsement deal with Plinopis, it would not be beneficial for them. Therefore, they took advantage of the situation and covertly influenced their fans to turn against Elisa.
Elisa saw through all of this. She didn’t do anything herself, she simply had her assistant uncover the first few accounts disguised as her fans.
Soon, Elisa, along with the “Revenge and Love” cast, went to Bankshire for promotions. The crowd at the event that day was massive, with onlookers and reporters. It was just a small event, but the number of reporters that arrived made it seem like a press conference. This was all because Elisa was going to be there.
There was also a lot of online buzz about Elisa. Even before she appeared, she was trending. The anticipation was palpable.
“Word has it that Elisa will be here today. I’m going to tune into the live broadcast.”
“Look at the crowd here. The number of onlookers. Isn’t Elisa the queen of the entertainment industry now?”
“Let’s congratulate Elisa for landing the Plinopis endorsement. Her future looks bright.”
“Elisa is beautiful, but her beauty is a bit commonplace.”
“There’s no one with Elisa’s looks who acts better. There’s no one with Elisa’s acting ability who looks as good as her. She’s got everything. In the last thirty years of the domestic entertainment industry, no one has ascended as quickly as Elisa.”
The barrage of comments during the live broadcast was all about Elisa. Suddenly, the focus shifted to a car driving in.
The previously overcast sky suddenly brightened, the sun broke through the clouds and the sunlight poured down, illuminating everything perfectly. The car door opened slowly, revealing a pair of slender feet in high heels, followed by enviable long legs. Elisa stepped out, her body slightly leaning as she pushed the door open.
Her long hair was tousled by the wind, and someone called out to her. She turned her head, revealing her breathtakingly beautiful face to the public. Her misty eyes caused the journalists who were live streaming to pause for a moment, stunned by this visual impact.
Elisa’s red lips curled, and only then did the crowd gradually react. It had been a long time since Elisa had appeared in the public eye. While others would go all out to release news every day, solidify their fan base, and maintain a strong public image, Elisa was quite the opposite. She was indifferent to the various rumors and didn’t bother to explain. On Twitter, she only focused on work-related promotions and had no presence in her private life.
Elisa was wearing a white suit, her legs long and slender. With one hand in her pocket and wearing high heels, she came forward with elegance and confidence. She didn’t look like a star; she looked more like a female CEO.
For a promotional event, wearing formal attire would have been too grand, while casual attire would have been too informal, especially with so many reporters and cameras around. Elisa’s outfit was just right. In the sea of people, she was a striking figure, making people hold their breath.
Elisa saw the director and went over to greet him. She had a good relationship with the people in the crew. The company had no conflict of interest, and with the TV series about to air, even if their relationship was not good, they would not show it. They had to do what they were supposed to do. Surface-level relationships were just superficial friendships that hadn’t been seen for a long time.
Elisa glanced around and asked, “Why haven’t I seen Ariadne?”
Osvaldo, who had a good relationship with Elisa, explained, “What have you been busy with lately? Haven’t you been keeping up with the news online? You weren’t at the Quokka promotion last time, and Ariadne has been targeting you openly and secretly. Mr. Kentala got angry and won’t let her accompany the cast for promotions anymore.”
“Oh.”
Then Osvaldo suddenly, with a mysterious look, asked, “Did you really collaborate with Plinopis?”
Elisa glanced at him and asked, “Who told you?”
“It’s all over the internet, isn’t it? It’s all over with details, saying that Plinopis actively contacted you and hoped you would become their domestic spokesperson.”
“They did contact me…”
“The rich forget themselves. ”
Elisa interrupted him, “But I declined.”
Osvaldo looked incredulous. His gaze suddenly changed, as if he were looking at a fool. After a while, he finally asked, “Why did you refuse? Plinopis is a top luxurybrand. If you collaborated with them, you would have firmly established yourself overseas.”
If she wanted to establish herself overseas, she didn’t need anyone’s help.
“There’s a reason why I declined.”
“What reason?” Osvaldo asked.
“You’ll know soon enough,” Elisa said.
Elisa followed her entourage to the backstage area, waiting for the cue to go on stage. She wasn’t very good at dealing with fans, and with so many people in the audience, the noise was giving her a headache. Elisa preferred tranquility. The host asked her questions, and she answered absentmindedly, unconsciously checking her watch. Was it almost time?
The live broadcast showed the comments of online viewers on the big screen. The press conference covered questions related to the entire show, and the actors shared interesting stories from the set. Although Elisa was just the second lead, it seemed like this was her show. The host and the actors kept calling on her, and the journalists kept asking her questions.
Many of the questions were not about the show, but rather attempting to pry into her personal life. They asked if she was dating Louis, what her relationship with A. W Group was, and so on.
The reporters tried to dig up information, but Elisa skillfully deflected all their attempts.
It wasn’t until a journalist in the corner spoke up, “Miss Powell, is it true that Plinopis recently approached you for an endorsement deal?”
“False. Next question.”
The journalist was undeterred and continued to press, “Is the news false, or did they reject you as soon as they saw you?”
