Elisa raised her hand and patted his head, speaking indulgently, “Work hard on your acting, as for the rest, I can handle it myself.”
Apart from discussing love affairs, Elisa’s favorite thing was to show her dominance.
Moreover, she was more suited for these things. Louis had previously told her not to dirty her hands, that she could rely on him, that she could hand over anything to him, even murder. But Elisa didn’t want to. In her eyes, Louis was nothing short of a clean slate. It was actually Elisa herself who, in her past life, had seen all kinds of filth, with business competition being no cleaner than the entertainment industry, and sometimes even dirtier. For example, take Hamish.
Whenever she thought of him, the words that came to mind were “ruthless.” How to deal the biggest blow to one’s opponent at the smallest cost-Elisa was well aware of these tactics, knowing all the ins and outs.
Louis unconditionally believed in Elisa. If she said something would work, then it would.
“A lot has been happening in Chiwood recently.”
“Is it Finn? Or Hamish?” Elisa inquired.
Louis glanced at Elisa, thinking to himself that she was indeed quick to catch on. Actually, it wasn’t that Elisa was quick to react, but rather, the headquarters of Chiwood stood with Finn and Hamish at either end. Moreover, she was now also in the business world. Even if she didn’t actively seek out information, some news would still find its way to her ears.
“It’s Finn, but he’s also entangled with Hamish. His previous agreement to collaborate, given his disabled legs, was intercepted by Hamish. Now, with his position unstable, some shareholders and partners who had deep ties with Old Burns are planning to replace him and instead collaborate with Hamish.”
To say that Hamish had no involvement in this would be deceiving.
A trace of mockery curved Elisa’s lips. “Serves him right.”
She had long anticipated a clash between Hamish and Finn, but she hadn’t expected Finn to be so easily defeated. If Hamish took over all of Finn’s assets, this wouldn’t be a good thing for Elisa.
A wave of concern rose within Elisa. Louis clearly sensed her mood sinking and reached out to grab the wrist of the hand she had placed on his shoulder, pulling her gently into his embrace.
“What’s wrong?”
Elisa, sitting on his lap, shook her head. “I just can’t figure it out. Even if Finn’s legs are crippled, he shouldn’t have been replaced so quickly.”
Louis explained, “If it was just Hamish targeting him alone, it might have taken some time. But my father intervened in this matter, attacking from both ends, naturally, Finn couldn’t hold on.”
So, it was because of Mr. White. It wasn’t difficult to imagine why he had done this. Most likely, it was the conversation between her and Mrs. White that night. Mrs. White had conveyed it to Mr. White, and he, following the trail, had indeed discovered that Finn was the one who had harmed Louis in the past. It was ridiculous that they had regarded Finn as a benefactor and even transferred their shares to him.
How much had been transferred back then, now naturally had to be taken back in full.
“Why do you think the old man suddenly turned against Finn?”
The term “old man” made Elisa pause for a moment before realizing that he was referring to Mr. White.
“Maybe Uncle White suddenly took a disliking to him,” Elisa said as she thought about the matter, thinking about how Hamish had gradually forced the Powell Group into a corner, the more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.
“What’s the relationship between Aunt Burns and Hamish?”
From the moment he first saw Hamish, Louis had inexplicably been filled with hostility towards him. He found him disagreeable, and the more he saw of him, the more he disliked him. He didn’t understand it before, not until he met Elisa did he realize that he and Hamish were natural rivals.
Unfortunately, among their whole family, only Louis looked at him unfavorably. His mother liked him very much and often invited Hamish over for meals, which led to him visiting the White family less and less in the end.
It wasn’t so much that Mrs. White liked Hamish as it was that she felt guilty towards him.
“My mother feels guilty towards Hamish, perhaps thinking that after her brother’s death, she didn’t fulfill her duty as an aunt to take care of Hamish. Also, at the time, my mother held shares in the Burns family. When Hamish and Finn were fighting over the family fortune, she gave the shares to Finn.”
In terms of relations, Hamish was Mrs. White’s nephew by blood, theson of her brother, while Finn was the illegitimate child left by the third party. At that time, everyone thought Mrs. White would support Hamish in the end, but unexpectedly, she gave them to Finn, allowing Finn to inherit the Burns family fortune.
Louis didn’t know these details, but Elisa quickly understood them.
Back then, Finn, carrying the injured Louis (Autumn), had found Mrs. White. To thank him, she was naturally willing to hand over her shares.
Louis had heard from his mother that the Burns family was not like the White family. Even between relatives, it was all about interests, with no talk of emotions. Emotions were considered a weakness for them.
Old Burns had raised his children this way since they were young, and even after they had all left, he educated his grandchildren in the same manner.
Hamish’s parents died at the hands of their relatives, and Mrs. White did not have a good time in the Burns family. Marrying into the White family was purely a marriage of convenience, but she accidentally stumbled upon true love, making her the luckiest in the Burns family.
