Chapter 468 Human Nature

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

Brittany never expected that the white lace sexy nightgown she had painstakingly prepared had become cheapened by Louis, this stinky man! The enmity of snatching a woman is irreconcilable. If Elisa hadn’t been watching from the side, she would have to beat Louis to a pulp.
Brittany grimaced, looking like a little puppy who had lost its bone, panting angrily, appearing fierce but actually not threatening at all.
“Brittany?” Elisa just walked out of the washroom and saw Brittany standing outside the door. After a two-second pause, she called out.
Brittany immediately complained, “Elisa, did my brother sneak you over while you were asleep?”
Elisa honestly shook her head, “No, I wanted to sleep with him myself; don’t blame him.”
Not only did she not complain, she was also forcibly fed a mouthful of dog food, making Brittany sour like she had drunk vinegar while sitting under a lemon tree.
It felt like raising a daughter carefully only to have her grow up and turn her back. The lovely and delicate cabbage was dug up by a pig.
Louis couldn’t conceal his pride on his face, with “smug” written all over it.
“Take your nightgown away, and don’t give Elisa these messy clothes in the future.”
Messy clothes? Don’t think she didn’t know what he was thinking. She said she didn’t want it but felt pleased inside; especially the nightgown she had helped Elisa put on last night. Not to mention men, even she, a woman, felt tempted just looking at it, let alone snuggling under the warm blanket.
Brittany’s eyes reddened with anger, but she was helpless. She angrily went in and took away the nightgown folded on the bed.
“It seems like Brittany is angry?” Seeing Brittany leave, Elisa asked in confusion.
“Ignore her; she’s just having an early menopause.” Wanting to sleep with his woman right in front of him, he must quickly extinguish this tiny fantasy of hers.
“Yesterday, you asked me if Brittany didn’t like you. Now that you see her sticking to you, how does it make you feel?”
The morning was filled with the taste of vinegar.
“Feelings? Probably the feeling of gaining a true fan.” She had misinterpreted Brittany’s coldness towards her before. Unexpectedly, Brittany turned out to be her fan. Thinking about the wallpaper on her tablet with her pictures, Elisa couldn’t help but curl her lips.
Louis’s internal alarm sounded, “When did she become your fan, and how come I didn’t know?”
“How many times do you come back in a year? It’s normal not to know.” Elisa sat in a chair, looking at the mirror. She had come in a hurry yesterday, thinking she wouldn’t be staying here overnight, so she hadn’t brought any change of clothes or skincare products.
Elisa had good skin, no visible pores, naturally fair and tender. Normally, she did light makeup for acting, and she could go out bare-faced in daily life.
Louis went into the washroom and came out with water, lotion, eye cream, sunscreen, and primer in his hand, placing them in front of Elisa and watching her apply them.
While applying eye cream, Elisa asked, “Did you secretly apply eye cream for me last night?”
“How did you know?”
“I woke up this morning and found the skin around my eyes quite moisturized. If you hadn’t applied eye cream for me last night, my eyes might have been swollen this morning.”
Louis was not good with words when it came to emotions and rarely spoke sweet words, but every detail of his actions told her that he loved her.
If this “love” had to be described, it would be like the ocean, deep and heavy, able to encompass everything.
Elisa looked at Louis in the mirror.
Fortunately, she hadn’t given up on life. She had met someone who gave her all his love, loving only her.
Perhaps this world wasn’t as bad as one might think.
After they finished preparing, they went downstairs, and the housekeeper brought breakfast to the table.
Mrs. White wished to act as if nothing had happened, as usual, but the more she tried to appear unaffected, the more strained her smile became. In the end, even her gaze seemed hesitant and couldn’t settle on Elisa.
Fortunately, Mr. White was there to smooth things over; otherwise, it would have definitely been more evident.
However, Louis still noticed that something was amiss. Mrs. White was usually very enthusiastic towards Elisa, asking about her well-being and serving her food, but today she kept her head down and barely spoke.
Looking at Elisa beside her, although there was nothing similar, her eyes remained deep, as if she had something on her mind.
In just a few glances, he felt that theywere hiding something from him.
He wasn’t a fool and had some observational skills. After spending several years in the entertainment industry, he had encountered all sorts of people and situations. Acting tests one’s powers of observation. So, at that moment, he speculated that something had happened last night that he didn’t know about, and he was the only one in the family left in the dark.
This feeling was very uncomfortable, much like suddenly being isolated by the entire class at school, and the worst part was not knowing the reason.
After breakfast, Elisa bid farewell to the White family.
Mr. White gave Elisa a bottle of wine he had prepared in advance.
Elisa accepted it, as this kind of wine might be considered expensive in the eyes of ordinary people, but it was quite common in wealthy households.
When Mrs. White was alone with Elisa, she couldn’t conceal her guilt and uneasiness. “Elisa, please come and visit often in the future.”
Elisa replied with a simple “Okay,” her expression unreadable.
It was Mrs. White who seemed to be under scrutiny. When she became nervous, her eyes reddened, and she bit her lip, trembling as she said, “This will always be your home.”
“Thank you, Aunt Burns.”
Mrs. White breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Elisa smile this time. She looked at the man beside her; Mr. White’s gaze was encouraging and comforting as he reached out to put his arm around her shoulder.
Brittany reluctantly saw Elisa off, all the way to the garage. She wanted to hug her, but Louis, who was watching nearby, ruthlessly pushed her away.
“Don’t go around hugging other people’s girlfriends. If you feel lonely, let Mom and Dad set you up on blind dates.” It was just a casual remark, but it was actually a good idea. When Brittany had a boyfriend and got married and had children, she wouldn’t have any spare thoughts for Elisa.
Brittany retorted, unwilling to back down, “Bah, hugging between us girls is a sign of good feelings, pure friendship. Only someone with dirty thoughts like you would see it differently.””I’m disgusting? Brittany, don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. Isn’t it just because you’re attracted to my girlfriend’s looks?”
“Don’t you ever look at looks? Hypocritical and superficial dog man, you don’t even know what Elisa sees in you.”
“Of course she sees my thoughtfulness and caring nature.”
“…..”
Elisa, on the side, watched the two siblings bicker like elementary school children, unable to resist interrupting.
“Actually, I was also attracted to your brother’s looks, especially his eight-pack abs and v-cut lines.”
As soon as she spoke, the attention of the siblings turned to her.
Elisa successfully disrupted the argument between the two.
“Elisa, you like abs?”
Elisa nodded, or more accurately, she liked Louis’s abs. They felt particularly good to touch, and she loved running her fingers along the lines… Unfortunately, she didn’t have the chance.
Human nature, craving a man’s body is nothing new.
Brittany looked visibly upset.
Louis looked triumphant, as if he had won a battle, pushing Brittany, who was already at a distance, even further away.
“Did you hear that? With that belly of yours, my girlfriend will never like you in a lifetime.” Despite Louis usually being gentle with Elisa, when confronting others, he would aim for their most vulnerable spots.
Brittany’s eyes teared up as she turned and fled, unable to be stopped.
Louis poured more fuel on the fire from behind, “There should be a distance between fans and idols; know your place as a fan.”
Elisa lightly pinched his arm, “Do you talk to your little sister like that?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” Elisa’s grip felt more like a tickle than a pinch, causing no pain, only an itch, from her arm all the way to his heart. He took her hand and pulled out the car keys with his right hand.
“She already has a bit of a belly, I didn’t make it up.”
“How do you know?” Elisa asked curiously.
Louis opened the car door, “I see her posting on social media every day about wanting to lose weight, spending all day at home, constantly on her phone, not exercising, eating a lot. Is it any wonder she’s gaining weight?”
Brittany wasn’t actually fat, but in a girl’s own eyes, there always seem to be flaws.
Elisa got into the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.
Louis circled around the front of the car and sat in the driver’s seat, reversing with one hand on the steering wheel and the other resting on the window, looking in the rearview mirror, smoothly exiting the parking spot.
“What are your plans for the future?” Louis asked as he drove onto the main road.
“Plans?” Elisa paused, thinking for a moment before saying, “Entering the entertainment industry and acting was never in my plans. I’m planning to leave the entertainment industry and focus on running a company as a producer. I might need to recruit more new talent, as the movie side is preparing to launch overseas. I won’t have much time, so I’ll need your help with planning.”
“No problem.” Louis wasn’t surprised to hear that Elisa wanted to leave the entertainment industry. Acting is tiring, and it’s not just physically exhausting, but mentally draining too.
Regarding leaving the entertainment industry, it’s usually best to go with the flow. In the entertainment industry, there’s news every day, and once some time has passed, people won’t pay much attention to you anymore.
If Elisa were to announce her departure from the entertainment industry now, it would certainly cause quite a stir.
Louis glanced at the rearview mirror and turned the steering wheel to the right.
“Why did you want to enter the entertainment industry and act in the first place?” This question had always been on Elisa’s mind. According to what she thought, Louis had just woken up with a confused memory after being in a coma for over a decade. How could he have tolerated being in such a strange situation?
“In fact, for a while, I lived in a daze. I knew my name, my age, and all the people of the White family, but it felt strange. Sometimes, I had strange thoughts. I might not be the person they said I was … Elisa.” Louis suddenly called Elisa’s name with seriousness at the end.
“What?”
“Could it be that after I died, my soul possessed someone else’s body? The memories are of this body, not mine, so that’s why I feel strange?”
“… It’s probably not. Weren’t you always receiving treatment for heart surgery abroad? After that, you were in a coma for a long time. Feeling strange after waking up is quite normal.”
Louis unconditionally believed Elisa; whatever she said, he would believe.
However, a faint bitterness rose in Elisa’s heart.
She changed the subject, “You still haven’t told me why you wanted to enter the entertainment industry and act back then.”
“If I became famous in the entertainment industry, many people would see me. At that time, I just wanted a certain girl to be able to see me. Before, I didn’t understand why I had such a thought, until I saw you on the plane, then I understood that everything I did seemed to be just to meet you.” He spoke the truth, but for some reason, as he spoke, he felt cheesy.
Louis blushed, staring earnestly ahead, focusing on driving.
“What would you have done if you hadn’t met me?” Elisa turned her head to look at him, her voice slightly trembling as if she were suppressing something.
“I don’t know, maybe life would have been meaningless, I would have amounted to nothing. But as long as I’m in this world, I will always look for you. Even if I can’t find you, I will keep looking.”
“Idiot, a big idiot.”
Louis curiously responded, “Huh? How am I an idiot?”
“A person’s life should not be wasted on just one person.” Her early life was a perfect example of this. “As long as a person is alive, they have meaning.”
Louis fell silent for a while before saying, “Elisa, I’m very lucky to have met you. Because with you by my side, my ordinary life has become more colorful, and I live with more purpose.”
“Me too.” Only she, who knew her past, could truly understand these words.
