Chapter 261: Pitying Herself

Elisa wiped the tears from her face, telling herself not to cry.
Hamish not only took away her memory but also her emotions. She couldn’t sacrifice her freedom and health here any longer.
Unsteadily, Elisa made her way to the bathroom for a hot shower. Her figure was frail, and her thin shadow was reflected on the glass door, evoking a sense of pity in anyone who looked at it, Elisa included.
She pitied herself; in her small heart, there was once a place solely for Hamish, but now it was being dismantled by the one she loved.
Why is love so difficult in this world? Why does deception exist?
While Hamish deceived her, did his heart not ache? The answer was “no.” Perhaps, while deceiving her, he was mocking her foolishness and then displaying his sense of superiority.
Some people experience discomfort during pregnancy, such as emotional anxiety, insomnia, nausea, and swelling after six weeks. Of course, some people have no reaction at all.
Elisa hoped she was among the lucky ones. Her body was in a terrible state, and she feared that the baby might leave her carelessly.
She touched her abdomen, thinking of how recently she had nestled in Hamish’s arms, choosing names for the baby.
“A girl named Jade, a boy named Jude. So, what would your name be?”
Mimi seemed to sense her distress and approached, rubbing against her legs, ultimately covering one leg with cat hair.
Elisa picked up Mimi; she intended to leave with it.

Elisa had already made preliminary plans. She had visited Hamish’s company, learning his usual schedule, the busiest times, and which days he typically held meetings.
Elisa decided to leave on Monday, which was the day after tomorrow.
However, before that, she needed to pack her belongings and evade the villa’s housekeeper and surveillance cameras.
Elisa only trusted Mrs. Rugger. She didn’t know if Mrs. Rugger would help her, but at this point, she had to take a chance.
Mrs. Rugger was the person in the villa who cared most about Elisa, treating her as if she were her own daughter.
These past few days, Mrs. Rugger had noticed that Elisa’s mood was off, especially since Hamish hadn’t returned. She couldn’t help but worry. Mrs. Protich even mentioned that the two might be heading for a divorce.
Mrs. Rugger didn’t believe the couple would divorce. Arguments between spouses were normal, and they would make up after quarrels. Besides, in the past month or two, she hadn’t seen the two of them arguing.
Mrs. Rugger noticed Elisa’s pale complexion and overall lack of nutrition.
She brewed fish soup, intending to nourish Elisa.
Mrs. Rugger was skilled; she deboned the fish, the meat was delicious, and it lacked any fishy taste.
Elisa always liked her soups, but this time, she drank absentmindedly in her room and didn’t finish the bowl.
“Mrs. Burns, is something happening between you and Mr. Burns recently?”
Elisa’s lowered eyelashes trembled, and she put down the bowl in her hand. “Mrs. Rugger, can you not call me Mrs. Burns?”
Mrs. Rugger’s heart skipped a beat; it seemed that this time, the conflict between Elisa and Hamish was more than just a simple disagreement. Unlike last time, although their conflict seemed serious, Elisa hadn’t asked her to change how she addressed her.
Elisa spoke again, “I’m pregnant.”
This fluctuating mood was akin to riding a roller coaster. Mrs. Rugger regained her composure. “That’s wonderful news!”
