After finishing their congee, Elisa lay there with nothing to do. She couldn’t sleep, so she decided to strike up a conversation.
“Where is Lukas?” she asked.
“It’s been taken care of,” Hamish replied calmly. However, his eyes showed a hint of coldness when he mentioned Lukas. He wanted Elisa to bring up the “agreement,” but after waiting for a while, all he got was a faint “oh” from Elisa.
“I’ve torn up the agreement you signed. Lukas won’t bother you anymore, and your brother won’t have any trouble either,” Hamish assured her.
Elisa’s expression changed. “His well-being is no longer my concern,” she said firmly.
Ever since she was drugged by Lukas and abandoned by Ivan, she had decided to cut ties with him. She was no saint, and she couldn’t continue to compromise herself for such a selfish and inhumane brother, all for the sake of pleasing Hamish.
Lying in bed, her still-drowsy eyes suddenly fixed on Hamish’s handsome face. “Hamish, I want a divorce,” she declared.
Hamish’s eyes widened for a moment, but he quickly suppressed the panic in his heart. He forced a smile and said, “I haven’t even asked you about the part in the agreement where you agreed to have a sexual relationship. And now you want a divorce? Is this the behavior of a wife?”
“The agreement… it stated that I agreed to have a sexual relationship?” Elisa was taken aback. After a while, she realized that Lukas had switched the initial IOU she signed while she was drinking. So, the agreement she signed did include her consent for a sexual relationship.
Since Hamish had torn up the agreement, he must have read everything written on it. Did he now think she was dirty? Was she willing to sacrifice her dignity and body just to save Ivan?
But she had already made up her mind to divorce him, and whether he misunderstood or not was no longer so important.
“The agreement is just as you think. I sold myself to save Ivan,” Elisa admitted.
Hamish didn’t want to confirm whether the agreement was genuine or fake. Just from Elisa’s words, his anger flared up.
“Don’t even think about a divorce!” he exclaimed.
Upon hearing Hamish’s words, Elisa smiled and said, “Hamish, I am dirty.”
Hamish’s expression turned cold. “You can wash away the dirt, and besides, you’re not dirty,” he replied.
Elisa shook her head. “But my heart… I’m no longer the Elisa who was only focused on you. She spoke calmly with a serene expression on her face. “I truly feel that this relationship between us is no longer meaningful.”
“Whether it’s meaningful or not, I’m the one who decides.” Hamish suddenly stood up, veins popping on his forehead. “No matter how many times you say it, I will never divorce you.”
Elisa’s face looked so exhausted that it made people feel sorry for her. With her eyes half-closed, she said, “Hamish, this time, I will definitely divorce you. Prepare yourself for the court summons.”
It seemed like she was serious. Hamish’s eyes darkened slightly, followed by a sneer. “Are you not afraid that I will deal with the people around you?”
“Are you referring to Ivan? Or the Bakers?” Elisa seemed to understand his thoughts and said coldly, “I can barely take care of myself. Why should I care about them? Ivan is nothing to me. Whether you want to cut off his hand or take his life, it has nothing to do with me.”
Ever since Ivan deceived her and left her at the underground gambling den, she no longer had a brother.
Anyway, she would soon die. Relatives were dispensable to her. With her eyes closed, she embraced the darkness, and everything returned to dust.
Hamish had always been cautious in his actions, following the plan he had set from the beginning. But he didn’t know why things went wrong with Elisa.
Elisa spoke coldly about divorcing him, and her eyes couldn’t hide the hatred she felt. She truly despised him.
During these peaceful two months of getting along, perhaps he was the only one immersed in it, moved by his own self.
When he saw Elisa’s cold gaze upon him, his heart seemed to be gnawed at by something, causing intense pain.
“Do you really not care about anything anymore?” he asked.
“Yes,” she replied.
Hamish’s face turned dark and sinister. “In that case, I will give you the opportunity to file for divorce in court. But if the judge doesn’t grant it, you will be forever tied to me, unable to do anything except bear children. Can you handle that, Elisa?”
