Chapter 157: He is Despicable and Shameless

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

After dealing with Lukas, Hamish returned to the hospital. His originally pale face regained some color when he saw Elisa, who was still unconscious.
“Why hasn’t she woken up yet?” he asked.
The doctor explained, “Miss Powell tested positive for a sedative in her blood, and considering the shock she experienced, it might take until tomorrow for her to regain consciousness.”
Upon hearing the words “sedative” and filled with fear, Hamish felt a tightness in his chest. He didn’t dare to think about what would have happened if he had arrived even a little later, and what fate would have awaited Elisa.
Hamish hadn’t even had a chance to change his clothes. His shirt was stained with blood. The doctor looked at him and suggested, “Mr. Burns, why don’t I stay here and watch over Miss Powell while you go back and change your clothes?”
Hamish glanced at his clothes and only then noticed the bloodstains on them. “I’ll have my assistant bring them over later,” he said.
Having said that, the doctor didn’t say anything more, as it wouldn’t be appropriate. After giving a few instructions, the doctor left.

Tobias arrived at the hospital with the clothes and saw Hamish sitting by the bedside, doing nothing but holding Elisa’s hand. Hamish’s back was turned to the light, and his face was shrouded in shadows, making it difficult to discern his expression. Only his eyes emitted a hint of warmth.
Warmth? Tobias felt a jolt in his heart. He actually saw warmth on Hamish’s face. He rubbed his eyes, thinking he must have been mistaken.
In a cold voice, Hamish said, “What are you doing standing outside the door?”
Tobias put down the clothes and looked again, realizing his mistake.
Tobias walked in and carefully placed the suitcase on the floor. “Mr. Burns, your and Mrs. Burns’ clothes and toiletries are inside.”
“I’ll go change. You stay here and watch over her.” Hamish opened the suitcase and rummaged through it to find a change of clothes.
The VIP ward had everything, more like a small hotel than a hospital. Hamish went in, took a quick shower, and came out. The light in the washroom illuminated his face. Whether it was due to the bright light or the water on his face, Hamish’s complexion appeared pale, devoid of color. In that moment, Tobias thought he had also been injured.
“Alright, you can go back now. I’ll stay at the hospital to take care of her. You handle things at the company,” Hamish said.
Tobias was accustomed to this kind of arrangement and had become numb to it. After Tobias left, only Hamish remained in the ward. When a person is in silence and has nothing to do, it’s inevitable to let one’s mind wander.
Thinking about what happened today when he rushed into the underground gambling den, even the calmest person would lose their composure in such a situation.

In the middle of the night, Elisa suddenly developed a fever. Hamish noticed it and immediately pressed the call button to summon the doctor and nurse.
The fever was caused by an infection in the wound. The doctor gave Elisa an antibiotic injection and then advised Hamish, “Miss Powell has a slight fever, but it’s not a big problem. Make sure to give her some water.”
Seeing Hamish furrowing his brows, the doctor knew he must be extremely worried. Trying to provide some comfort, the doctor added, “Don’t worry, she will definitely wake up tomorrow. You should rest early too. You don’t want to be tired when she wakes up and needs your care.”
Hamish nodded in acknowledgment.
The doctor noticed that Hamish’s gaze remained fixated on Elisa’s face and didn’t say anything further. He gently closed the door as he left the ward.
Hamish gently stroked Elisa’s pale face. This woman always ended up hurting herself. She cared so much for the people around her but didn’t pay much attention to her own well-being. She had risked her life alone in the underground gambling den for that man, Ivan.
Hamish was angry with Elisa for not caring about her own well-being. But then he realized that he and Lukas were no different when they forcefully took advantage of her because of their own ulterior motives.
Leaning against the bedside, Hamish pressed his forehead, trying to ease the throbbing vein.
