Chapter 108: Lila Deliberately Jumped off the Building

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

“Go back and pack your things. Call me when you’re ready to move, and I’ll arrange for a driver,” Hamish said, unexpectedly telling Lila to leave without any sentiment.
Lila stood there, stunned for a while, before replying, “Okay.”
Mrs. Gordon, who was standing by, was also perplexed. Lila’s sudden discharge from the hospital was one thing, but now Hamish wanted to kick her out. Could it be because he knew that Lila had intentionally jumped off the building and framed Elisa?
Mrs. Gordon had intended to speak up for Lila, but she felt guilty for her own wrongdoing and remained silent even after leaving the hospital.
Tobias quickly made a copy of the surveillance footage from that day in North Bankshire. He brought it home and couldn’t even bother to eat as he began searching for the specific segment to edit for Hamish.
In the text message, Hamish only mentioned a rough time but didn’t explain what had happened during that period. So when Tobias fast-forwarded the footage to that time, the scene immediately showed Elisa pushing Lila down the stairs.
Tobias adjusted the playback speed to the fastest, and before long, he saw Hamish throwing Elisa from the second floor, blood splattering everywhere. The sight was chilling to the bone.
Tobias sat rigidly, forgetting to blink as he stared fixedly at the screen. It felt like he was watching something extremely dangerous. Could Mr. Burns silence him for witnessing this?
But to be honest, he had always known that Hamish could be ruthless, but he never expected him to be so heartless and without any boundaries. He directly threw a woman down the stairs, and the pool of blood indicated that things didn’t end well.
Tobias was bewildered. He had followed Hamish for many years, and in their work, Hamish was efficient and a natural leader. No matter how difficult the task, he remained rational and calm. But when it came to Elisa, he acted like a madman.
Did Hamish love Elisa? Tobias believed there were feelings involved, after all, they had been married for so many years. Moreover, he couldn’t forget the moment a few months ago when Elisa was rushed into the emergency room. Hamish’s usually composed face cracked at that moment, and his calm black pupils revealed fear.
That was his truest emotion, not something he could fake. At that time, Hamish was clearly afraid of losing Elisa. So why didn’t he cherish her later? Why did he treat her with such cruelty and harm her?
Tobias couldn’t understand. He was just an ordinary guy who had never been in love and didn’t understand love at all. If Hamish truly loved Elisa, would he have thrown her down the stairs, covered in blood?
Hamish was quite good to other women, like Lila. You could say he was interested in her, but he didn’t divorce Elisa, wanting both a wife and a mistress.
Tobias massaged his temples, feeling a headache coming on. He took a sip of cold water and then sent the edited video to Hamish.
After receiving the video, Hamish watched the scene of Lila falling down the stairs a few times but didn’t notice anything unusual.
After ordering takeout, Tobias saw a message from Hamish.
“Did you notice anything from the part where Lila fell down the stairs?”
Tobias furrowed his brow. What was he supposed to notice? He wasn’t a filmmaker, but he adjusted the video and watched it carefully. It appeared that Elisa pushed Lila down the stairs, but in reality, her hands were not captured in the footage.
Tobias forwarded the video to a director he had previously worked with.
The director replied after watching it, “Over ninety percent of this footage is misaligned.”
Tobias was confused, “How did you figure that out?”
“Angles, and the force of the fall clearly indicates that it was designed to minimize the damage. If someone had pushed her, she wouldn’t have rolled down like that.” The director was worried that Tobias wouldn’t understand, so he found another video for comparison.
Upon seeing it, Tobias immediately merged the information and forwarded it to Hamish.
Hamish wasn’t particularly surprised by all this. If it hadn’t been for Lila’s remark about “eyes and ears deceiving,” he might not have made the connection.
Hamish took out a cigarette pack, walked to the smoking area, lit one, and took a drag. The taste of nicotine momentarily numbed his thoughts. He squinted through the bluish-white smoke, staring at the text messages on his phone, lost in thought. The cigarette in his hand burned, and the ashes with sparks fell to the ground.
