As Hattie spoke, her expressionless face finally showed a hint of emotion. There was a mocking undertone on her face, a smile that was not really a smile.
“I am not!” Lila glared at her angrily. How dare this woman insult her as someone’s mistress?
“If you’re not a mistress, then why do you always cling to other people’s husbands shamelessly and shamefully use their shared property? And why do you bark like a dog everywhere?” Hattie, with one hand in her white coat, had an innocent and harmless doll-like face, but her words were increasingly blunt and harsh.
“I understand now. You are not even worthy of being a mistress. A mistress still holds a position, but someone like you would probably be nothing more than a prostitute in ancient times, unfit to be seen by others,” Hattie said, glancing at Hamish beside her. The smile on her face deepened, making her doll-like face even more innocent.
Hamish spoke in a deep voice, “Dr. Mason, choose your words carefully.”
“I’ll return those words to you intact,” Hattie said unapologetically. “Some people may look presentable, but when it comes to their actions, they are worse than pigs and dogs. Despite having good eyes, they fail to recognize whether those around them are human or ghost. Don’t you agree, Mr. Burns?”
She smiled slightly at Hamish.
Hamish’s hawk-like eyes sparkled with a sinister light, his jaw clenched tight, showing his anger.
Lila suddenly stepped forward, raising her voice, “What kind of doctor are you? Do you understand respect? Believe me, I will have you expelled by the dean!”
Hattie had a smile on her face, but her eyes showed no amusement. “Sure, but before you go to the dean to have me expelled, let’s first settle the accusations you made against Elisa. You claimed she wanted to kill you. Well, let me ask you, how could she have the strength to kill you after undergoing an abortion surgery? If she really wanted to kill you, why are you unharmed while she is injured?”
Lila’s face stiffened. “That’s because I managed to dodge her. Naturally, she didn’t harm me.”
Hattie retorted, “Is that so? Then why did I hear one of the nurses present say that you were hiding in Hamish’s arms, looking seriously injured? Are you saying that you were pretending? Just to frame Elisa?”
Lila’s eyes were filled with rage, but she couldn’t find any words to refute the doctor.
“Don’t bring emotions into this. Someone who brings destruction upon themselves, losing their family and having an abortion, I don’t believe she could still have any affection,” Hattie said to Lila, but her gaze was directed at Hamish.
Lila was stunned by her words, her delicate face frozen. She wanted to argue with the doctor, but she found herself unable to utter a single word of rebuttal.
Hattie took her hand out of her white coat, holding a cellphone with a blinking signal light. She opened the latest message in front of both of them, and there was a video that had just been sent.
As she played the video on full volume, she muttered, “I forgot to mention, in the intensive care unit, we installed a surveillance camera in the corner of the room in case of any sudden changes in the patient’s condition.”
Lila’s face instantly turned pale with panic.
Hattie turned up the volume, repeating, “Not to mention how clear this video is, capturing the disgusting and repulsive face of certain individuals.”
Lila became frightened. She tightly grasped Hamish’s hands and said, “Hamish, don’t believe her words, don’t watch it. The video must have been edited by her.”
Before Lila could finish her sentence, the sound of interference came from the phone, followed by her own voice.
