Hamish’s eyes were pitch black as he reached out and touched Elisa’s cheek, his lips curling into a smirk. “Once you’re better, I’ll make you pregnant again.”
Elisa’s face turned pale as paper, and after a brief tremor, her mind cleared slightly, and she said, “Alright.”
Hamish was taken aback. Could Elisa be so obedient?
Sure enough, Elisa’s eyes darkened, becoming as deep as a snake’s, and she sneered, her lips curling. “Pregnant with one, one dies. Pregnant with two, the pair dies!”
“You!” He raised his hand, but Elisa stared fearlessly back at him, provoking him.
“Go ahead, hit me. It would be best if you hit my stomach!”
“Do you think I can’t do anything to you, Elisa? If I want you to have a child, there are plenty of ways. Since you love to stir up trouble so much, I might as well break your legs and lock you to the bed. Then you’ll be helpless, only able to watch your belly grow and see each child born!”
Hamish always bluntly disgusted her, treating her as nothing more than a plaything, not even as precious as a pet. He kept her around only because she had a uterus that could bear children.
Hamish touched her pointed chin. “Are you scared?”
She suddenly felt cold, so cold that it was suffocating. Elisa’s gaze wandered to Lila, who stood near the door.
“What about letting Lila bear your children? If you don’t care about my feelings, do you still not care about hers?” She didn’t believe that Lila, with her narrow-mindedness, could tolerate Elisa being pregnant with Hamish’s child.
“Do you think Lila is as calculative as you? Moreover, the children you give birth to will naturally be taken care of by Lila. Four years ago, Lila had an accident and couldn’t conceive anymore. Since she can’t give birth, she can only find someone who can.” Hamish spoke as if it were a matter of course.
Seeing that the conversation had shifted to her, Lila smiled slightly. “I don’t mind, Elisa. If you have children in the future, I will treat them as my own and never mistreat them. I really like children, and it would be even better if you could have more.”
Hamish could feel Elisa’s body tensing up. He pretended not to see her pale face, and catered to Lila, saying, “Alright, let her have more children until she can’t give birth anymore.”
Elisa’s heart had long been pained to the point of numbness. Her gaze was desolate as she listened to their conversation, her heart stagnant like dead water.
Hamish and Lila had no regard for Elisa’s feelings, as if they were discussing how many offspring a beast should have, rather than a human being. Hamish had deprived her of her rights as a person, along with her dignity.
A sudden buzzing sound pierced her ears, like a needle piercing her eardrums and reaching her heart through her blood vessels. Elisa suddenly covered her ears, her expression filled with pain as she moaned in agony on the bed.
Her body trembled violently under the covers, her stomach twisted as if being cut by a knife, and waves of nausea swept over her. It hurt so much.
No one had anticipated this sudden change. Hamish looked at her in a state of panic. He pushed Elisa’s shoulder and discovered that her hospital gown was soaked with cold sweat.
“What’s wrong with you?”
Lila pretended to be concerned. “Hamish, go call a doctor to check on Elisa. She seems to be in a lot of pain.”
Hamish didn’t hesitate and turned to leave to call the doctor.
Once Hamish left, only Lila and Elisa remained in the room. Lila’s concerned expression quickly disappeared, replaced by a sinister gaze fixed on Elisa. “Elisa, are you okay?”
“Get out!”
Lila sat calmly in her chair and looked at her. “I’m so concerned about you, yet you don’t even thank me. Fine, never mind. But Elisa, you really lack gratitude.”
When those words came out of Lila’s mouth, they were nothing but a big joke. If she understood the meaning of gratitude, she wouldn’t have repeatedly accused Elisa. If she understood gratitude, she wouldn’t have slandered her to Hamish.
Elisa took a deep breath and suppressed her burning anger, but her chest still heaved intensely. She reached out and pressed her hand against it, her eyes bloodshot as she stared at Lila, saying in a dark tone, “Lila, aren’t you afraid of facing retribution?”
“Retribution?” Lilainterrupted, unable to help but laugh. “It was Hamish who threw you down the stairs, not me. Why would I face retribution? When you were bleeding heavily from a miscarriage and almost dying, it was me who saved you. Besides, who is really facing retribution if you think about our current situations?”
Lila’s words hit Elisa’s sore spot directly. She bit her pale lips tightly. Yes, it was true. She was the one truly facing retribution.
“Elisa, just be a good tool for giving birth. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of your children. I won’t let them be disabled or treated poorly. I’ll make sure they live just like you, better off dead.”
When Lila emphasized “better off dead,” Elisa’s body trembled. If her gaze could kill, she would have torn Lila to pieces long ago.
Her brows furrowed, and she ignored the needle still stuck in the back of her hand. With a sudden burst of energy, she lunged towards Lila. At that moment, Elisa had gone mad. All that filled her heart was a frenzy of hatred.
However, she had overestimated her own strength. Having just undergone surgery, her body was weak and feeble. She couldn’t even support herself, let alone make such a forceful movement. Rather than saying she pounced on Lila, it was more accurate to say that she couldn’t support herself and fell to the ground.
Lila’s eyes flickered, and she took a slight step back but didn’t completely evade the attack. As Elisa’s frail body fell towards her, Lila also fell to the ground. She then shouted in alarm, “Hamish, help me! Elisa is trying to kill me!”
In that frozen moment, a figure rushed in. Hamish shouted, “Lila!”
Seeing him arrive, Lila acted as if she had seen her savior. She cowered on the ground, moving towards Hamish, and said in fear, “Hamish, I’m in so much pain. Don’t leave me. Elisa has gone mad. She wants to kill me!”
Having fallen from the bed, even a normal person would feel pain, let alone Elisa, who was covered in injuries. However, she seemed not to feel any pain at all. She lay on the ground, gritting her teeth, and stared at him with intense hatred.
Her eyes, filled with resentment, were even colder and more chilling than before, like three feet of ice.
Hamish helped Lila up, his anger burning. He was about to move, and the doctor and nurses rushed in upon hearing the commotion.
When they saw Elisa lying on the ground, they quickly went to help her up. Elisa’s body was limp like a noodle, devoid of any strength. With the support of the doctor and nurses, she weakly returned to the bed.
