Elisa thought of many possible outcomes, but she didn’t expect Hamish to bluntly ridicule and mock her in order to defend Lila.
Her heart ached until it felt numb, but it still hurt so badly. Elisa coughed twice, wiping the blood on her hands onto her clothes. She was fortunate to be wearing a black jacket today, so even if there was blood, it wouldn’t be visible.
“If you can’t control your mouth, you should be hit. This is the logic you taught me, Hamish. Forget just two slaps, haven’t you hit me plenty of times? My two hits on her don’t compare to even one-tenth of your one slap. Elisa leaned back against the edge of the bed, slowly propping herself up. Her body swayed unsteadily but she didn’t fall back down.
This slap from Hamish was harder than ever before. Blood streamed from her nose and mouth. Her head was still spinning.
Hamish completely ignored Elisa’s pale complexion. This woman was accustomed to pretending to be weak to garner sympathy. He had fallen for it once before!
That’s how people are – once deceived, it leaves a hole in their impression of someone. All those previously ignored things come flooding out from that gap, washing away all the good completely.
Hamish wasn’t just angry and indignant, he even felt like a joke. His attitude towards Elisa became increasingly devoid of softness. He hated her as if wanting to stab her with a sharp blade, injuring her all over.
“Is Lila’s body the same as yours?” Hamish said mockingly.
“How is it not the same? We’re both human, with blood and flesh that can feel pain and die. Is Lila a fragile crystal doll while I’ve trained my body to be indestructible? Do you think I can’t feel pain or die?” By the end, Elisa’s voice had started choking up. Her eyes were red with tears streaming down her face into her mouth, leaving a salty bitterness. She couldn’t discern whether the bloody taste or the tears were more intense.
The two tastes mixed in her mouth creating a bitterness she’d never experienced before, more bitter than any medicine she’d had.
“Hamish!” Elisa grabbed his clothes tightly, looking up at him questioning, “Just what do you take me for? A mobile blood bank? Or your openly used sex tool? The real person harming Lila is you, not me. If you were willing to divorce me and be with her properly, would I have had the chance to humiliate her?”
Her words seemed to prick Hamish’s sore spot. He narrowed his eyes coldly.
“Elisa, don’t invert right and wrong to avoid responsibility. You should pay the price for your actions!” Hamish had decided Elisa was vicious, so everything she said and did was wrong.
Elisa was the type who didn’t learn from pain. She would offend again in less than two days. Hamish was determined to severely punish her today – no stopping until she was skinned and bled.
He grabbed Elisa’s left hand tightly, his gaze falling on the broken shards in the trash can.
Dragging Elisa in one hand and carrying the trash can in the other, he went to the balcony and dumped out the glass fragments onto the ground.
“Kneel!” He made Elisa kneel on the glass, though it was unclear if this was to punish her for hitting Lila or for smashing their wedding photo.
“I won’t kneel before a beast.”
Hamish was completely enraged. The more he looked at Elisa, the more he disliked her. He directly kicked the back of her knees viciously.
Elisa didn’t expect Hamish to resort to violence so suddenly. She only felt a jolt of pain in her knee as her legs bent down instinctively, kneeling on the glass-covered ground.
The weather was warm today so Elisa was just wearing a knee-length skirt on her lower half. Kneeling exposed her knees completely to the sharp glass shards that directly pierced her skin.
