Hamish looked at her face: “What’s wrong with you?”
In the dim light, Elisa’s face was as pale as old paper.
Outside the door, Lila said pitifully again: “Hamish, I don’t feel well. If you and Miss Powell are busy, I’ll go to the hospital by myself.”
“Stand there and don’t go. I’ll take you to the hospital.” Hamish got up and tidied his clothes. He generously covered Elisa with a blanket.
He opened the door and saw Lila in front of him with red eyes and shivering. The dissatisfaction in his heart just now was flushed away in an instant.
“Why did your head suddenly start hurting?” Hamish leaned in to check Lila’s forehead as he spoke.
Lila explained: “It might be from hitting it just now. I don’t know if it caused a concussion. I’m not only dizzy now but also feel like throwing up. I was going to try to bear it but it’s really too uncomfortable.” Lila sniffed her nose and looked carefully inside with her apricot eyes. Her voice was hoarse as she said, “I didn’t mean to disturb you and Miss Powell.”
Her eyes were wet and she looked very pitiful. Hamish thought of Elisa’s sickly appearance just now. He rubbed Lila’s head and his voice became gentler: “You didn’t disturb us. Don’t think randomly. I’ll take you to the hospital for a thorough checkup.”
“What about Miss Powell? Will she mind?” Lila’s appeasing manner made Hamish feel even more guilty.
“She’s not as important as you.”
These words sounded better than any sweet nothings, making Lila’s eyebrows relax. She even considerately said: “Don’t say that. She’ll feel bad if she hears it inside.”
Inside, Elisa painfully curled up in the blanket. She covered her ears, not wanting to hear them talk, but the harder she tried not to listen, the clearer their voices became.
Especially Hamish’s insincere words that made her nauseous.
He gave all his gentleness and consideration to Lila, and inflicted all his fierceness, brutality, rudeness and selfishness on Elisa alone.
Only after hearing the “bang” of the door closing did Elisa slowly poke her head out from under the blanket. She stumbled into the bathroom, opened the toilet lid, and started violently throwing up.
The lingering masculine pheromone smell made her nauseous. She had only drunk half a bowl of pork trotter soup at noon and had just thrown up, so now her stomach was empty and all that came out was yellowish gastric acid that burned her throat. Involuntary tears kept spilling from her eyes, wetting her haggard face.
Hamish took Lila to the hospital to get checked. Her head only had a minor bump and there was nothing seriously wrong. But she had a fever and needed 40 minutes of IV fluids.
Hamish stayed with her, responding to her absentmindedly. He seemed preoccupied and checked his phone for the time and messages several times.
This had never happened before and Lila felt a sense of crisis. In the past, Hamish would coax her by saying he would divorce Elisa and marry her after bringing down the Powell family. But now, he was just perfunctory.
The Powell family had fallen, and even Elisa’s father had jumped off a building to his death, yet Hamish was still keeping Elisa by his side and refusing to divorce.
Even if she didn’t say it, she knew the reason Hamish was stalling her was because he had developed feelings for Elisa and was moved emotionally.
