Driving her out of the hospital, they arrived at a well-known hotel.
In the spacious private room, the two of them sat facing each other at the round table. The atmosphere was quiet, and it didn’t seem too abrupt for him.
Amy ordered a few light dishes and a bowl of congee, all within the range she could afford. After drinking some congee, she felt much better in her stomach, so she stated her purpose directly.
“Naylor, I want to inquire about someone.”
On the way here, Naylor had thought about why she suddenly took the initiative, and when she spoke, only one name came to mind.
“Lucas?” Naylor smiled, his deep eyes staring at her intently.
“Yeah, who is he?” Amy was a little nervous, a faint sense of unease creeping into her heart.
“Why are you interested in him?” Naylor pondered for a moment before asking her softly.
Amy fell silent for a few seconds, then whispered, “If Naylor doesn’t want to say, then forget it.”
Naylor breathed a sigh of relief and shook his head. “Amy, you really have a temper. But I don’t know much about him either. I only know that he was in K City until he was 17, then he went to the United States with his stepfather. Almost no one knows anything about him before he turned 17. If you want to know about him, I have a suggestion.”
Amy was disappointed to hear that he didn’t know much, but she perked up at his last sentence. “What’s the suggestion?”
“Be my girlfriend.” Naylor smiled, gazing at her.
Amy couldn’t help but retort, “That’s quite a suggestion you have there, but I’m not interested.”
Naylor knew, of course, that would be her answer. He smiled and said, “Well, let me know when you’re free, and I’ll make an appointment.”
Just as Amy was about to speak, her phone rang. It was Mike’s wife calling. Her illness today had delayed their tour.
“Sorry, Mrs. Mike, I couldn’t accompany you this afternoon,” Amy apologized softly, holding her head.
“It’s okay, forgive me for inquiring about your privacy. I’m sorry about your father’s situation. I believe you’re not a vain girl; you’re very talented, just encountering temporary difficulties. If you’re willing, I can offer you a job.”
“Really? That’s great!” Amy was extremely excited.
“Tomorrow morning at 8:30, please come to H. E. Company at 26 Long River Street.”
After Mrs. Mike finished her instructions, Amy was already standing up happily, spinning around the chair a couple of times, picking up her bag, and leaving.
“Another day, I’ll treat you.”
“Hey, what about your car? Shall I have someone drive it back for you?” Naylor shouted after her.
“Oh, my car?” Amy turned to look at him, realizing she had forgotten about her BMW.
“To my company.” Naylor raised an eyebrow.
“I’ll drive it myself tomorrow.” Amy waved at him, walking away briskly. She didn’t look like a patient at all, more like an energetic fighter…
In the evening, Amy first looked up some information about H. E. Company. It turned out that this advertising agency was very famous in the industry. Several renowned real estate advertisements in the city were the work of H. E. Company.
She also prepared a detailed self-introduction and possible answers to questions. She listed all the tricky questions she had faced in the past two months and thought about how to answer them, especially questions about her father’s company and whether she could endure hardship… Each time these questions were raised, it felt like a knife stabbing her heart. But she had to endure it.
Anxiously, she stayed up past midnight, unable to resist the drowsiness anymore, and fell asleep on the soft, snowy-white pillow. Her posture was like a tired turtle; no matter how strong the wind and rain outside were, she could only rely on her not-so-sturdy shell to fend them off…
In her dream, she returned to her childhood, holding a large rabbit, standing in a small courtyard. Before her were many blurry faces of children. She was dressed so beautifully, while they were dressed so shabbily. Some even tried to snatch the crystal hairpin from her head, but she pushed them away with disgust…
Ding…
The urgent ringing suddenly woke Amy up. It took her several seconds to come to her senses. She had an interview appointment!
Battle mode activated! She tumbled out of bed, rushed into the bathroom, and got ready in five minutes before hurrying out.
H. E. Company occupied three floors in the Sea Blue Building, beautifully decorated, very stylish, and vibrant.
Amy was received by the company’s HR, Manager Sisi, a woman in her thirties who was quite friendly and had the standard demeanor of a career woman.
To her surprise, Manager Sisi only asked about her educational background and work experience in detail before offering her two positions: one in the customer service department and the other in sales.
