The casino security rushed over, forcefully grabbed her hand, and dragged her out. “Don’t cause trouble here, get out!”
“Neil…”
She screamed like an injured little wolf, tearing apart what was once a clean love.
The suitcase was thrown out along with her, falling to the ground like a rag. She watched as Neil hugged the girl and got into a taxi, disappearing into the distance.
A few skateboarders quickly glided past her. Suddenly, one of them flipped her, another person snatched her suitcase, and the other forcefully pulled her shoulder bag. With a strong tug, there was a tearing sound, and the bag’s zipper was pulled open. Some items fell out, but the bag was snatched away!
The world spun dizzyingly, and the starlight faded into darkness…
As if centuries had passed, she was startled by the ringing of her phone from her pocket. She took a deep breath, answered the call, and before she could say more than a hello, a sharp female voice came through, “Hey, Amy, when are you going to repay the money? I can ask the court for enforcement and have you arrested!”
She abruptly ended the call, her breath quickening like the trembling hands pulling a bellows.
Oh, Amy, look at you. What a poor man!
Struggling to stand, she grasped a nearby flower bed. But her ankle hurt too much! She drew in a cool breath and sat back down, forcefully removing her high heels and smashing them against the ground.
Barefoot, she hopped to where her belongings had fallen. There was only a small powder box, a pair of sunglasses, and a business card. That was all she owned! No, there was also a business card!
She picked it up and stared at the name on it: Frank! After hesitating for a few seconds, she reluctantly dialed the number, explaining her purpose for the call.
In just over ten minutes, a black Volvo SUV pulled up in front of her. Frank got out, still smiling politely, opened the car door for her, and invited her inside.
“Girls who participate in the event, regardless of success or failure, get their round-trip plane tickets reimbursed,” he explained as he turned to her.
“Sorry, I just want you to help me get home.” Amy spoke softly. She had no intention of getting involved in this rich man’s wife-selection game. She wouldn’t degrade herself like that.
Seeing her indifferent expression, Frank continued with a smile, “Today’s wealthy men want to have outstanding heirs. You have excellent qualifications. Why not give it a try? A woman’s greatest asset isn’t her talent but her youth and beauty. Armed with these, you can build a solid fortress for the latter half of your life.”
“What benefits do you get from doing this?” Amy turned her face, skeptical of his reasoning.
“Introducing a successful match comes with a substantial reward.” Frank was candid, his smile even broader.
“What kind of people are they? Old men, widowed baldies?” Amy asked maliciously, repulsed by such matters.
“Well, no matter who they are, they have money, and that’s the reality. If you had money, you wouldn’t have called me, right?” Frank raised an eyebrow and continued, “Forgive my bluntness, but if you have money, you might even buy back your father’s company. It’s the quickest and most effective shortcut. Conquer men, make them serve you- that’s a woman’s charm.”
“What if they’re eighty or ninety years old? Wouldn’t that be better?” Amy joked, but after the laughter, a surge of turmoil rushed through her heart.
What is love? Her father loved her stepmother deeply, yet disaster struck, and they went their separate ways. She loved Neil so much, and he insulted her…
Should she still believe in love? Did she still hope for a blissful marriage?
“Believe me, life is a gamble. If you don’t gamble, how will you know what tomorrow holds? On this blind date, there are indeed people looking for a docile wife. Why not give it a try?” Frank’s hand reached over and gently patted the back of her hand.
She turned to look at him. This man, Frank, was incredibly persuasive. Every word he spoke hit the core of the issue!
She reported to the police, waited for an expedited passport through special channels, and stayed in the hotel for four days. Fortunately, her ankle had healed, and she could walk. During these few days, she thought too much. The first twenty-three years of her life flashed through her mind repeatedly, with only the memories with Neil appearing somewhat blurred.
At six thirty, Frank personally came to pick her up from the hotel, bringing with him a moon-white cheongsam. He had been in this business for several years, and this would be the most valuable woman he had ever captured!
