Evelyn’s unabashed gaze only added to Mia’s embarrassment. “Evelyn, you better remember what I said. Otherwise, I won’t let you off.” She shouted before returning to the bald man’s side.
Evelyn took out her phone with keen interest and began recording several clips of the two in front of her. This would surely make for a great gift in the future. Imagine Jasper’s reaction when he sees this on their wedding day. Would it be even more entertaining than she imagined?
Lost in her thoughts, Evelyn realized that the auction had already begun. While keeping an eye on Mia, she also searched for the presence of someone else.
The seller of those chemicals would surely come to collect the profits today. She had asked Jonathan, and it had always been Spencer who came for the transactions. Now that Spencer was taken away by the Research Association for investigation, only the person behind Spencer would come in person.
In the next moment, Evelyn spotted a suspicious figure in the crowd-it was Caleb.
At that moment, a small dress was displayed on stage. Although not as grand as Evelyn’s ‘Magic Night’, it was a style that many young girls dreamed of.
The moment Mia saw the full view of the dress, her eyes lit up. She shook the bald man’s arm excitedly.
“This little dress is so sexy,” she whispered in a sultry voice in his ear, “If I wear it for you tonight, would you still want to get out of bed?” Mia’s deliberately seductive tone was too tempting for the bald man to resist, and he nodded, “Buy it. I’ll buy you anything you like.” With that, he directly bid five million.
Someone nearby immediately bid six million.
“Ten million.”
Evelyn smirked and raised the bidding paddle, “Fifteen million.”
“I won’t lose to that woman,” Mia stamped her foot, feeling even more aggrieved. She quickly urged the bald man.
“Sixteen million,” the bald man was starting to feel overwhelmed by such a high price, sweat dripping down his forehead.
Evelyn countered, “Eighteen million.”
The bald man hesitated, and Mia immediately put on a pitiful yet coquettish expression. The man gritted his teeth, “Twenty million.”
Evelyn knew this was the highest price the bald man could offer, so she stopped bidding. She glanced back and saw Henry about to raise the bidding paddle, so she quickly pulled him back.
“Don’t you like it?” Henry frowned.
Evelyn shook her head, “I already have ‘Magic Night’. Why would I need something like that? I just raised the price because I didn’t like them.”
After all, this money would ultimately end up in her pocket.
Upon hearing this, Henry withdrew his hand, a hint of resignation in his eyes.
The hammer fell on the stage, and the dress was eventually sold to the bald man for twenty million. Mia immediately felt triumphant and shot a provocative glance at Evelyn.
Evelyn waved her hand and called for David.
“Madam?”
“Do you know that bald man?”
“The bald man?” David scanned the crowd and finally locked onto the target.
It turned out that this man had indeed cooperated with The Wilson Group before, and David had some impression of him. He nodded.
Evelyn then asked, “Is he married?”
“…”
What did this mean?
David glanced cautiously at his boss. Couldn’t madam be a bit more discreet? Inquiring about a man so blatantly in front of boss?
David felt like he was walking on eggshells, but facing Evelyn’s questioning, he still nodded, “Yes, he’s married.”
“But he has a very good relationship with his wife. They respect each other, equal in standing, enviable to others.”
“Nonsense,” Evelyn ruthlessly exposed him, “If he has such a good relationship with his wife, would he bring another woman out?”
David dared not say anything more. Evelyn waved her hand, breaking the deadlock, “Find a way to send this video to his wife.”
Watching the video, David was momentarily stunned. It took him a while to realize what she was going to do.
He nodded and immediately went to work.
Once it was confirmed that the bald man’s wife would arrive, Evelyn looked excited. Henry, seeing this, couldn’t help but affectionately pat her head.
The reagents were arranged for sale. Evelyn didn’t participate in the bidding. After everything was sold, she explained to Henry before heading backstage to find Jonathan.
Caleb couldn’t wait to collect his money. Seeing earning nearly tens of millions in one go, he was exhilarated and pulled out a card.
“Can you please transfer the money to me as soon as possible?”
“Sir, I’m sorry, but we can’t give you the money right now.”
“Can’t? Why not? You’ve sold my stuff, so who else would you give the money to?” Caleb roared, “Don’t force me to call the police.”
“Call the police? Do you dare?” Evelyn pushed open the door, looking at Caleb with contempt in her eyes.
“Minister Caleb doesn’t know where these reagents came from? If you call the police, you’ll be the one going in.”
It took Caleb a moment to react when he saw her.
“How did you get here? Evelyn, are you following me?”
“I don’t have the time to follow you. But these reagents are worth tracking.”
She pointed to the bill on the table, “Minister Caleb doesn’t want to explain?”
Caleb knew he was caught but was unwilling to accept it. He gritted his teeth and tried his old trick, “How much do you want?”
Upon hearing this, Evelyn was momentarily stunned but then found it amusing, “Minister Caleb thinks I’m easily bribed?”
“Name your price,” Caleb insisted.
“If I say that everything here belongs to me?”
“Evelyn, don’t push it,” Caleb was suddenly angry, “Last time, you took away ten million from me and still weren’t satisfied. Now you’re asking for an exorbitant amount.”
“Evelyn, too much food can lead to choking.”
“Hmm.” Evelyn stared at Caleb with a piercing gaze, “Then… let’s try it?”
With that, she took out a card and handed it to the girl handling the transactions, “Transfer all the money to my account.”
The girl recognized Evelyn. Although she didn’t know her exact identity, she knew she was someone even Jonathan dared not provoke. She nodded quickly, “Miss Taylor, give me a minute, and the money will be transferred soon.”
“Sure.” Evelyn nodded and then turned to stare at Caleb.
Caleb exploded, “You dare to give her the money? Aren’t you afraid I’ll expose this and ruin the reputation of the underground trading market completely?”
“Call Jonathan out. I want to see Jonathan.”
He had communicated with Jonathan once and thought he had improved their relationship.
The colleague had already gone to find Jonathan.
A minute passed quickly, and after the girl transferred the money, she handed the card to Evelyn. Caleb moved toward the door, “You better not leave here, or else…”
“Or else what? You can barely take care of yourself, and yet you have the energy to come beat me up?”
Evelyn tilted her head back, lounging lazily against the table.
At that moment, Jonathan arrived.
“Jonathan.” Caleb greeted him, explaining the situation and complaining, “All those reagents were obtained through my hard work. Why should the money be given to someone unrelated to this? What kind of rule is this?”
“It’s the rule of our underground market. Any objections?” Evelyn smirked, exposing him, “And these reagents, to be precise, were stolen by you, which is quite disgusting.”
Caleb felt embarrassed being exposed. He scolded in a low voice, “Who do you think you are? You dare to question the rules of the underground trading market? Do you know who Jonathan is?”
“Jonathan, huh?” Evelyn looked suddenly enlightened, then resumed her calm demeanor, “Jonathan, he’s asking you. He’s curious about who you are.”
Caleb eagerly awaited Jonathan’s intervention, but to his surprise, Jonathan bowed respectfully to Evelyn.
“Naturally, I am the subordinate of you, my master.”
“What did you say? Her? Who is Evelyn?”
Caleb retreated in fear, taking some time to digest Jonathan’s words.
Retreating to what he thought was a safe distance, Caleb stared incredulously at Evelyn, murmuring softly, “How is this possible? This…”
Then he remembered something and regained his spirit. Taking a deep breath, he continued, “Even if you are in charge here, you have no right to take my money, Evelyn. Don’t forget, we signed a contract when I consigned the reagents. The underground trading market relies on sincerity. If I expose this, the underground trading market won’t have an easy time either.”
Bringing up the topic, Caleb suddenly felt triumphant, “So what if I stole the reagents? Did I steal from you? What gives you the right to criticize me?”
Upon hearing this, Evelyn laughed, “Funny thing is, what you stole are belongs to me.”
“Caleb, you’re curious about the mysterious heir to the research institute, aren’t you?” Evelyn’s implication sent shivers down Caleb’s legs. He leaned against the wall, not daring to entertain that possibility.
