Evelyn: “…” Her ears turned red in an instant.
“We should go home now.” Evelyn pulled him towards the exit.
Henry suddenly stopped, turned around, and coolly glanced at Angela, “Remember my warning, as long as you’re alive, the warning won’t expire.”
A chill ran down Angela’s spine, and she trembled abruptly.
Damn it, that wretched woman.
Henry, with Evelyn in tow, left the venue.
The two didn’t hurry back home.
Over the next three days, the two behaved like newlyweds, going out to play every day, only returning late at night.
On the fourth day, with the matter of the old man’s land settled, the two returned to Memphis.
The day Evelyn returned to the research institute, Samuel also returned from his business trip, holding a pile of local specialties.
Evelyn just took a glance and felt a headache coming on.
“Evelyn, these are all carefully selected by me. Don’t you like them?” Samuel asked disappointedly.
Evelyn initially remained silent, but when his questioning became too much, she grabbed a few green things from his pile.
“Samuel, these carefully selected specialties of yours are just these peppers?”
“Huh!” Samuel looked at them seriously, also feeling a bit awkward. He said, somewhat aggrieved, “The places I went on my business trip only had these specialties. What can I do?”
Evelyn: “…”
“I don’t mind if you turn these things into cash for me.”
“Cash!” Samuel suddenly brightened up, whispering, “Evelyn, do you like money?”
Evelyn rolled her eyes, “Don’t you like it?”
Samuel thought for a moment, “Well, I kinda do.”
“Nonsense.” Evelyn didn’t bother with him, about to leave. Samuel followed up again, looking mysterious.
“Evelyn, don’t leave after work.”
“What, are you trying to challenge me?” She clenched her fist, making a bone-cracking sound that instantly gave Samuel a creepy feeling.
He quickly shook his head, “No, no, I was thinking of a fun place and wanted to take you there.”
Evelyn opened her mouth, wanting to refuse but fearing that Samuel would pester her continuously.
“Let’s talk about it after work,” she said.
By the end of the workday, Evelyn, seeing Samuel still fast asleep, sneaked away quietly.
She deliberately took the back door.
The evening sun outside was just right. Evelyn heaved a sigh of relief, thinking she had escaped. But then Samuel’s voice came from behind.
“Evelyn, how did you know my car was parked at the back door?”
Evelyn: “…” She had no idea.
“Come on, let’s go. We can make it in time,” Samuel said, pulling Evelyn into the car. After leaving the city, they drove all the way.
She had thought this guy would choose something like an arcade. Only after entering did Evelyn realize that it was a mixed crowd, with many nouveau riche individuals. In short, none of them seemed like good people.
“You brought me to a place like this?” Evelyn frowned.
Samuel quickly explained, “Of course not.”
Saying that, he took out a gold card, ready to negotiate with the staff.
However, Evelyn had lost interest. She turned to leave but, in that split second, she spotted Mia.
Mia was accompanied by Scarlett, both wearing masks, acting furtively.
Evelyn’s steps toward the exit abruptly changed direction. Samuel caught up and whispered, “Evelyn, if you don’t like this place, I have other options. How about we go somewhere else?”
“No need to change,” Evelyn casually replied, her eyes fixed on the mother and daughter being led away by someone who looked like a waiter.
“What are they doing?” she asked.
Samuel glanced over, “Probably new sellers at the auction. I’ve seen many like them. They usually act like this on their first time. After a few successful rounds, they’ll get used to it.”
“Sellers?” Evelyn frowned. She didn’t believe Scarlett and Mia had anything worth selling. After all, it was already challenging for Mia to come up with that one million last time.
“Those who sell… sell…” Samuel hinted discreetly.
Evelyn became impatient, “Explain it clearly.”
He nervously responded, “Okay, I’ll be clear, but don’t blame me for being vulgar. I swear, I’ve only seen a lot and haven’t participated.”
“You better tell me,” Evelyn demanded.
Listening to Evelyn’s impatient tone, Samuel moved a bit farther back, “It’s a place full of vice here. These two women, if they didn’t bring anything to sell, they must be selling themselves.”
At his words, Evelyn’s lips twitched uncontrollably. She looked at the direction of the auction with a playful gleam in her eyes. She hadn’t expected Mia to consider such activities. However, considering the number of men she had been with, a few more probably wouldn’t make much difference.
After waiting for Evelyn’s expression to return to normal, Samuel cautiously approached.
“Evelyn, shall we go now?”
“No, I suddenly find this place interesting. Take me to the auction.”
“Eh…” Samuel hesitated for a moment, “How did you know there are handsome guys at the auction? Don’t tell me you want…”
He looked at Evelyn’s eyes and nodded knowingly, “I get it. You can rest assured. Today, all your expenses are on me. Whoever you fancy later, I’ll buy it for you.”
Evelyn: “…”
With Samuel’s golden card, they could choose any position in the auction, and Evelyn, wearing a mask, selected a central location in the middle row. Positioned directly opposite the stage, she would have a clear view of Mia’s embarrassing moment later.
After a short while, the auction began. Ten scantily clad women were brought onto the stage.
These women seemed accustomed to this environment, teasing and posturing, attempting to attract a wealthier benefactor.
“Those who come here frequently are not valuable, they are usually sold as a package deal,” Samuel explained.
Buying in bulk meant a lower price. Soon, ten women were purchased by a wealthy old man in his sixties.
Another batch of five, followed by three, two…
An endless stream of girls was brought from backstage, and Evelyn couldn’t help but frown.
She hadn’t expected so many people in this world to sell themselves for money.
Thinking Evelyn might get bored, Samuel pointed to the time on his watch, “Handsome guys will be brought in half an hour. Don’t worry, Evelyn.”
Evelyn: “…” This idiot was going to drive her crazy!
“I…”
“Shut up.”
Samuel closed his mouth, and finally, there was silence in the world.
The host mentioned the words ‘new goods.’ Evelyn turned her head and saw Mia standing on the stage in a schoolgirl outfit. Not too revealing, not too conservative, the perfect blend of innocence and allure. It immediately stirred the desires of the men in the audience.
“Virgin!” Evelyn listened to the host’s description and felt like throwing up.
Mia had probably told countless men that she was a virgin.
“Samuel.”
“??” Samuel quickly turned his head.
Evelyn whispered, “Among them, are there any men with peculiar tastes?”
Samuel’s eyes widened suddenly. After staring at Evelyn for a while, he pointed to nearly a dozen men in the front and back.
“These all have quite peculiar tastes. There’s no telling how many women the hospital has pulled out from their homes.”
Pointing to a bald man in the front row, Samuel continued, “But the most perverse one is Adrian.”
Satisfied, Evelyn curled her lips and said, “Him, then.”
“What?” Samuel thought he might have misheard. The next moment, Evelyn repeated clearly, “Him.”
Samuel was about to advise her not to do something rash when Evelyn slapped him on the head.
“Do you know about me beating up Spencer?”
Her tone was highly threatening, and Samuel was instantly scared into silence. He feared that Evelyn might pull out a bottle of sulfuric acid and splash it on him in the next moment. Rumor had it that Spencer was still lying in the hospital, and he wouldn’t be getting out for at least a year or more.
“I’m a big shot at the research institute, give me some face, okay?” Samuel mumbled very softly. He was terrified that if word got out about how timid he was in front of Evelyn, he wouldn’t be able to face anyone.
Although Samuel murmured very quietly, Evelyn still heard him. She said coldly, “Do you want to get beaten up?. I can provide the service for free. Interested?”
Samuel quickly shrunk back, “No need. Evelyn, look, the bidding has started. This woman just bid five hundred thousand.”
As he spoke, someone bid one million.
“One million five hundred thousand!”
“Two million.”
In no time, the price skyrocketed, and even Adrian, the bald guy in the front, kept bidding. Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief as she watched.
In less than ten minutes, the price soared to four million five hundred thousand, and Adrian seemed to have given up.
Evelyn sighed disappointedly, “His strength is really lacking.”
“Samuel, five million, buy that woman for me.”
Samuel widened his eyes instantly. “Are you kidding, Evelyn? I’m not that kind of person. Besides, even if I buy, I can’t buy something so disgusting, right?”
“I asked you to help me buy. Didn’t you say whatever I want, you’ll foot the bill?”
