Once outside the mall, Ellis left with Frank. Thinking that they hadn’t visited the snack street they had planned, Evelyn felt a bit empty. She returned to the villa, burying herself in bed for three hours before being awakened by the doorbell.
Evelyn went downstairs, and Eleanor had already opened the door. Henry was standing in the living room. Seeing the sudden appearance of a suitcase in his hand, Evelyn froze. “Are you… going on a business trip?”
Henry pushed the suitcase aside, staring at Evelyn.
What did this mean? Evelyn made sure she hadn’t done anything wrong lately.
After some thought, she quickly ran to his side, “It was an accident that I didn’t accompany you for lunch. Next time when you return from a business trip, I’ll accompany you to eat ten times, okay?”
Henry still didn’t speak. Without hesitation, Evelyn tiptoed and gave him a peck on the lips, then smiled sweetly, “Is this okay? Don’t be mad anymore.”
Henry’s expression visibly softened a bit, but before he could say anything, a sliding sound came from behind them. Evelyn turned around and first saw Frank, followed by the rolling suitcase, and then Ellis sitting on the suitcase handle.
Ellis covered his eyes with one small hand, and through the gap between his fingers, a pair of beautiful eyes were staring at her, smiling mischievously, “I didn’t mean to watch Aunt and Uncle kiss.”
Frank subconsciously tried to cover Ellis’s mouth.
Henry silently glanced at the little guy…
Evelyn walked directly over, kissed his forehead. “Baby, you’re so polite. Very good.” Henry, looking at this scene, had only two words in his mind: So annoying.
Evelyn asked Ellis in a low voice, “So these two big suitcases are both for you?”
“Yes.” Ellis nodded, “Personally, I think lending myself to Aunt for just one day is too stingy. So, I applied for a few more days with Uncle.”
While Frank felt relieved, he couldn’t help but sigh imperceptibly. It had been more than two years since he had seen Ellis so happy, especially the way he spoke today, which left Frank feeling a bit overwhelmed. The amount Ellis spoke in a day by Evelyn’s side was equivalent to what he spoke in a year abroad.
Henry, not wanting to disturb the current warmth, gradually softened his expression.
…
Alexander and Sophia’s engagement banquet was scheduled for the end of the month.
That day was a sunny day.
Evelyn stood in Sophia’s dressing room, looking at Sophia, who was already in a pure white gown, and asked softly, “No regrets?”
Sophia looked at her slightly swollen belly, the smile that had just disappeared from her lips reappeared, spreading across her face.
“Alexander is just a bit childish. I believe he will be a qualified and good father.”
“And what about you? Do you only want a qualified father for your child?” Evelyn stared out the window, where a woman with exceptional looks confidently stepped out of the car and walked into the hotel.
Tessa, she really dared to come!
Following Evelyn’s gaze, Sophia glanced down as well. “So, you were worried about her!”
“Alexander doesn’t like her, even dislikes her, but because she saved Alexander once when they were kids, Alexander’s parents used the pretext of repaying a favor to threaten him into marrying her.”
Evelyn: “…”
Sophia touched up her lipstick and continued, “Over the years, Tessa has taken advantage of this, I don’t know how many benefits she’s gained from The Smith family. The Smith family owes her nothing by now.”
Evelyn nodded, before she could speak, someone came to hurry Sophia.
Most of the guests outside had arrived. Evelyn followed Sophia, getting ready to find Henry.
As they turned a corner, Tessa was standing in the aisle, looking unfriendly.
“You bitch.” She glared fiercely at Sophia’s belly, “Do you think The Smith family would let you in without this child?”
Sophia gave her a casual glance, calmly responding, “It’s a pity, but I happen to have one.”
“What’s the matter? Jealous? Why don’t you go find Alexander and have him give you a child too?” Sophia’s seemingly casual words hit Tessa right where it hurt. The reason she went abroad years ago was that she had visited Alexander one night. She had sacrificed her dignity, even resorted to some unsavory means, just to marry into The Smith family as soon as possible.
Little did she know that in that situation, Alexander had only harshly told her to “get lost.” He would rather go chill in cold water than look at her again.
The scene from those years flashed in her mind, and Tessa was overshadowed by shame. She bit her lip and coldly said, “You’re not worthy of Alexander.”
“That’s my business.” There was no trace of emotion in Sophia’s eyes. She simply bypassed Tessa and walked straight towards Alexander.
Tessa was infuriated by her attitude, “We’ll see about that after today.”
After today, she would make the entire upper society of Memphis know that the person who deserves Alexander is her, not that wretched Sophia.
Tessa had hired private detectives to investigate. This woman named Sophia was nothing more than a troublemaker from an orphanage. Drinking, fighting, getting into trouble with the law – she excelled at everything, with a character so bad it reached extremes.
So she concluded that The Smith family allowed her in just because of that child. If the child was gone and Sophia’s true face exposed to everyone, what would The Smith family’s attitude be?
Seeing the malice in her eyes, Evelyn approached slowly and kicked Tessa in the knee joint.
“Ah!” Tessa nearly knelt down. She turned to see Evelyn and immediately screamed, “Bitch, it’s you again.”
“The Thompson family has been in trouble recently. Is it your doing?” Evelyn raised an eyebrow, neither confirming nor denying.
“You!” Tessa was momentarily speechless. She couldn’t help but recall the last time at the bar when Bruce and the boss had trembled in front of Evelyn, “I have no grievances with you. Why do you keep targeting me everywhere?”
“Heh!” Evelyn sneered, “I find you distasteful. Is that reason enough?” Her eyes were disdainful, and her tone was icy.
Tessa, infuriated, gritted her teeth, but restrained herself from speaking.
Evelyn patted her face, threatening, “At the engagement banquet, you better not try anything wrong, or else…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the entire venue buzzed with excitement as everyone turned their attention to the big screen.
On the screen were edited photos and videos. Tessa, seeing the situation, was instantly excited. However, in front of Evelyn, she restrained herself.
After a moment, Evelyn still noticed the clues. Initially, they showed childhood photos and videos of Alexander, gradually shifting to those of Sophia. From the orphanage to society, from being bullied to trampling others underfoot. Compared to the Sophia Evelyn knew, the Sophia in the video was more brutal, colder.
Guests started pointing and whispering, and the expressions of Alexander’s parents darkened.
In Tessa’s eyes, there was a gleam of excitement.
So, Sophia’s pregnant, but what does it matter? Later, when Alexander discovers the true face of that wretched woman, and they cancel the banquet in anger, she will have won completely.
Tessa was still reveling in joy when suddenly her shoulder ached, and the next moment, she was ruthlessly slammed against the wall.
“You…” She looked at Evelyn, who was full of killing intent, feeling somewhat panicked, “What do you want to do?”
Evelyn narrowed her eyes, her voice icy, “I just gave you a chance.”
“What chance? I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Tessa pretended to be ignorant.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” Evelyn’s gaze was gloomy.
Evelyn let go of her, whispered, “When someone does something wrong, they must repay it.”
Tessa hadn’t yet grasped what happened when Evelyn had already left. It took her a long time to recover her composure. Considering the reactions of the people at the banquet, her last trace of fear disappeared.
Thinking of Evelyn’s words, Tessa contemptuously laughed. Once she enters the gates of The Smith family, with The Smith family’s status in Memphis, besides Henry, who would dare touch her?
Tessa chuckled at Evelyn’s foolishness, then gracefully entered the venue.
“The Smith family can now be considered a prestigious family. Why would they marry such a woman?”
“Heh, probably just to entertain us, right? Ignoring the wonderful heiress of The Thompson family, they found such a plaything.”
“Indeed, just a plaything. It’s because Alexander likes her. Look at the grim faces of those two elderly folks. ”
These people didn’t regard Sophia highly at all, so naturally, they didn’t bother to lower their voices, and their words entered her ears clearly.
As Evelyn approached, Sophia’s face remained calm, but her eyes kept flickering. Hearing footsteps, she turned around, “Indeed, such a delicate outfit doesn’t suit me well.”
“You look beautiful today,” Evelyn said, supporting her shoulder, “Where’s Alexander?”
Sophia’s gaze shifted to the entrance, “There he is.”
Sophia’s eyes grew colder. Subconsciously, she felt that Alexander would never accept her like this.
