After witnessing the defeat of Klaus, Larry had already realised that his plans had failed. His goal was to use Klaus to win and become Wolf King, handle the rest of the Alpha’s, putting them in line. According to their partnership, Larry still had the upper hand since the defeated Wolf King had a very weak mentality.
Larry would indirectly be the Wolf King by manipulating Klaus. This method would ensure that he got control of the Rockwood Pack as their Alpha. Victory was guaranteed, with no room for error.
At least, that was how it was supposed to play out. However…
‘This is… how could this happen?!’ Larry’s mind rang.
Nothing was going his way. Asher’s sudden announcement and charisma won over the hearts of everyone, even his own Omega footsoldiers. Larry thought the gathering would make him lose favour before everyone, but it was the opposite. Dax becoming Alpha was also very surprising.
‘I assumed the Alpha selection would occur at a later date. Shit!’
Still, he wasn’t entirely worried since Klaus was going to end up being the victor. However, even that assumption ended up being false.
Both Asher and Roxanne have somehow thrown dirt into his plans, causing everything to fall into ruin.
‘Damnit! I’ve lost it entirely!’ He growled.
In the midst of hundreds of Werewolves who had mixes of emotions, he was the only one whose bitterness was dominant.
‘I have to retreat for now… there’s nothing left to do.’ Larry reasoned.
The deed had been done, and the plan forfeited. However, so long as he was still alive, there was the hope of one day achieving his goals.
“Plans are dispensable anyway. What really matters is my existence. No matter what happens, I won’t give up. Rejoice for now, Roxanne… Asher… I’ll still win in the end.” Larry whispered, turning to leave.
However, as he did so, he heard Asher say something that caught his attention.
“… Thiis was all to catch someone amid us, a traitor!”
Larry’s eyes bulged.
‘W-what is this?!” His mind rang.
People have shocked gasps, drowning his own thoughts in their uncoordinated noise.
‘Impossible… there’s no way they know anything about my involvement!’ His brain pounded.
“This person was responsible for the recent Hunter attack on the Rockwood Pack, the scandal between Camilla and me, the close assassination of my one and only mate, Roxanne, and even her family. They are also responsible for the recent uprising of the former Wolf King, and their goal is to tear down the current Werewolf community.”
Larry knew all of these accusations Asher gave were directed at him. His heart began beating faster as cold sweats of fear enveloped his face.
‘T-they know?! But how? I covered my tracks perfectly.’
Realising that the gathering was unsafe for him, Larry decided to make his escape before he would be caught. His instincts screamed at him to leave as fast as he could.
“After using this elaborate event as bait and carefully observing everyone, this culprit has finally been identified. He is none other than…”
Larry’s trembling body turned, attempting to flee, but he suddenly felt heavy. It felt like heavy weights were holding his body down, and he knew what they were. Turning his head to the person who was making his voice heard across the community, Larry glared at Asher.
“… Larry, Omega of the Rockwood Pack. He is a traitor!”
Instantly, all eyes followed where Asher was looking at, and in a flash, the sight of all the wolves turned to Larry. The gazes of hundreds made him paralyzed. His Art didn’t help him as well. Hundreds of thoughts ravaged his brain as he tried to shut them out. He was in a panic. So far everything had gone according to his plan.
‘Not now… not now…’ He screamed internally.
After all the time and effort, after the careful deliberations. Victory was within his grasp and he lost it. As though that wasn’t enough, he was now punished by the accusation of Asher. The judging and unbelieving eyes of werewolves were on him. Larry was trapped.
‘No! I won’t let it end like this!’ He gritted his teeth.
“W-what are you talking about? L-lord Asher, I’m confused…”
In such a situation, the best thing to do was play dumb.
“There’s no point in denying it, Larry. You’ve been caught.” Asher said, now sternly gazing at Larry.
The resolute look in Asher’s eyes showed him that the end was truly at hand.
“The whole reason for this charade was to fish you out. I knew you would make your move since your ambitions were most likely linked to the throne and position of Alpha. I just couldn’t tell of your identity. Who would have thought that it was a single Omega, and one who served close to Dax for that matter.” Asher began.
“W-what are you talking about? Planning? Ambition? Me? I have done no such thing…” Larry’s voice trailed, donning his innocent look.
His act was so convincing that everyone around him was actually confused on who to believe. They all trusted Asher, but there was no way such an Omega could be responsible for all that had happened.
“You betrayed your kin, Larry… and nearly caused everything to collapse as a result. However, there would be no point in forcing these charges on you without any evidence…” Asher’s voice trailed.
“Y-yes… exactly, I didn’t do anything to-”
“That’s a lie! Larry is lying!” A shrill, loud voice called out.
Larry’s voice widened as he heard the person who shouted. Looking in her direction, Larry’s betrayed eyes caught Camilla. She was the one who ratted him out!
“H-he, Larry made me connive with him to create the whole scandal with Asher and me. He was also responsible for the Hunters attacking the Rockwood Pack. I-I didn’t have any choice. If I didn’t obey him… he would have… have…” Camilla broke down in a sob.
Larry’s teeth gritted as he heard her voice.
“You bitch, what are you talking about? When did I ever force you? Weren’t you after Asher and his throne from the start? I only-” Larry quickly realised what he was doing and stopped.
He had said too much!
The crowd looked at him with more judgmental eyes. He just shot himself in the leg, making him less credible.
Camilla wept upon hearing Larry’s voice. While it was true that Larry shared a majority of the blame in her actions, he wasn’t responsible for everything. Her father, Benson, had pushed his ambitions on her, and she was used by multiple parties. At this point, Camilla had broken down, not knowing which side to take.
Her father had lost, Larry had lost, Klaus had lost. Now having no ally, she instinctively chose the winning side and confessed to her crimes, pinning it all on the scapegoat.
“Keep quiet, Camilla. No one told you to speak.” Asher snapped at her instantly.
She had thought her testimony would bring her in good graces with Asher, but the disgusted glare he gave her showed otherwise. Her mind went blank as she fell into despair and kept quiet.
“I have my ways of extracting the truth from my targets.” He added.
From the peak where he stood, Asher activated it… the most powerful commanding force in the entire Werewolf community, one befitting the being who stood at the apex of all of them in power.
“[Domination]”
The intense wave of pressure was directed at Larry and Larry alone, sending a surge of controlling power through him. Larry’s body froze. He was no longer in control.
“Now then… with your very mouth, Larry… tell everyone the truth!” Asher said with a wide grin.
And so, bound by the shackles of Asher’s powers… Larry began his confession.
“… A-and, that’s all I did…. I…. I am the traitor…” His husky voice trailed as he uttered his last statement.
All those who heard were amazed by Larry’s confession. He had such an innocent look and a frail body. He was weak, appearing subservient. No one could have expected such actions from him.
Asher retracted his dominating power now that Larry’s confession was over. This gave the latter free rein over his body once more.
“B-but I didn’t… I didn’t have any other choice. It was for the sake of the pack. It was for equality! It had to be done!” Larry barked, trying to justify his actions now.
However, no one could believe him at this point. Even his fellow Omegas who were supposed to sympathise with him looked away, not willing to support his cause. Larry was all alone.
His eyes went up, looking at a figure he recognized to be gullible enough to trust him as she did in the past.
“R-Roxanne… y-you believe me don’t you, right? Everything I did was for the sake of the Pack!”
The deaths of about a dozen Werewolves due to the Hunters’ attack, the injury of several others, the havoc it caused, the separation of Roxanne and Asher, the clash between Roxanne and her coach and the near death of her mother and grandmother… Larry tried to justify those by attributing it to the Pack.
“You’re wrong, Larry. You did those for yourself.” Roxanne said, looking at Larry with a pitied expression.
Sure, his actions may have started as a result of fighting for the rights of his fellow Omegas, but it slowly evolved into something more. His hate for hierarchy and any controlling element. Larry sought to control everything and everyone around him, and his superiority complex became his Waterloo.
“Even now, I can see it with [Insight]… the amount of darkness that lurks about you.” She added.
Usually, she only saw some negative colours around those with evil intentions. However, for Larry, the darkness was so great that it wasn’t just around him, but Larry’s body itself exuded it. He was beyond redemption!
“I can also see it, Larry… the blood of your father smells on you. Lenard was a kind man… yet, you killed him. That too, including the death of those innocents killed by the Hunters, was for the sake of the Omegas?”
As Roxanne’s questions echoed in his ears, Larry realised that she wasn’t going to take his side. There was no point in appealing to her then.
“Fuck you bitch! Fuck this! What else was I supposed to do? Accept my role as a loser? Live like this for the rest of my life? Just because I was born without any talent or power, was I supposed to simply accept being weak and live as nothing but an errand boy till death? I couldn’t dream or aim higher… was that how I was meant to live forever?!” Larry yelled, now glaring crazily at Roxanne and everyone around him.
It was clear that he was losing his mind. The noise of hundreds of thoughts from hundreds of people crushed his head as he couldn’t maintain control anymore. He scratched his head, crying and laughing at the same time.
“Tell me, you idiots, you bitch! You bastards! What was I supposed to do?” He screamed.
“But, Larry… you aren’t weak anymore, are you?” Roxanne’s soft voice echoed.
“W-wha-?!” He paused, staring at Roxanne as she asked that question.
“You were given power, you gained followers, you got support… you weren’t weak anymore. So, why do you still use that as an excuse?” Roxanne asked.
As he heard this, Larry’s eyes widened. It was as if a revelation was dawning on him. However, just as he was about to reach the end of enlightenment, the darkness within him clouded his realisation. This made him clench his teeth and glare at Roxanne.
“Shut up, bitch! What the hell do you know about me? You were brought here a month ago, you were chosen as Luna and Wolf Queen, you adapted easily to training, you awakened, you got everything so easily. What the hell do you know about me-?!”
Before he could finish his statement, Asher suddenly appeared before him. He vanished from where he stood atop Alpha’s peak and was now directly before the insane Omega.
“Third time… this is the third time you’ve called her a bitch now… and that’s enough.” Asher said, glaring at Larry.
Now in the presence of the overwhelming presence of Asher, all of Larry’s bravado vanished. His body shook and trembled. Yet, he couldn’t get rid of the evil feeling of envy and hate.
“S-screw you!!!!” Larry yelled, lunging at Asher with his claws out, aiming for his head. Asher saw Larry slowly approach him and sighed at the futile attempt made by him.
>SPLURGEEE!!!<
Blood dropped on the cold, snowy ground. The light colour of the fluid of life tainted the pure colour on the ground, dying it in red as the thickness seeped in. Someone was bleeding. By the time everyone fully perceived the sight, the deed had been done. What they saw was Larry's body opened up by Asher's hand, and his blood spraying on the snow.
In a flash, Asher had easily dodged the strike Larry launched at him, piercing him with his own fist. Asher's hands tore through Larry's flesh and bones easily and crushed his heart. This left the Omega in a near-death state
Still, with some moments of brain activity left, Larry didn't cease his ramblings.
"I… I… was given this Art … by the moon goddess… I was… chosen…" Larry muttered nearly lifelessly.
Most people thought he was speaking gibberish. However, there was one who understood what he said clearly.
It was Roxanne.
"I was… meant to bring a revolution to the Pack… I was meant to be Alpha. I was given an Art… I was meant to control…" He kept mumbling.
At this point, Roxanne had to speak up.
"No, Larry. That's not why you were given this power. That's not what she had in mind when she gifted you with that Art!"
This created a reaction in Larry, causing him to look above him to get a glimpse of Roxanne.
"She told me… she revealed her true intentions. The reason Lara gave you those powers, Larry… it wasn't to take over this Pack!"
If it was for control, an Art like Domination or Aura would have suited force better. However, he was blessed with the Art of [Link], and could hear the thoughts of everyone.
"You grew up with a deep hatred in your heart for those you considered entitled. With that Art, you could have come to understand them, Larry!" Roxanne declared.
Larry listened to her, silently letting her words sink in. However, he didn't want to accept it.
"And, if you truly wanted to lead a new generation of people who weren't shackled by the current hierarchy, you had an Art to do so. To lead your fellows!" Roxanne stated
Larry's eyes widened when he heard this.
"Exactly! I was meant to rule and-"
"You could have left the Pack and created your own. You didn't need to plunge everything into chaos, Larry. You could have just made your own Pack and built your ideal society. You had supporters, you had an Art… and you had a dream!"
Upon hearing this, Larry was reminded of the last words his father told him before he died. It was something similar. He couldn't hear it back then due to his stubborn state. However, now that he was on the verge of death, he could hear it ever so clearly.
"You were blessed… to help those weak like you… you could create a new world for everyone. As an Omega among Omegas… Larry, that was why you were given this power. Please… don't let this path consume you…"
Those were his father's last words.
Upon realising this, tears flowed in his eyes. However, it was too late for regrets. He had killed and caused many deaths. He deserved what was coming.
Asher took this as his queue and instantly severed Larry's head, killing him instantly. As Larry fell into the realm of unconsciousness, he finally found the answer he was looking for. It was regrettable it only appeared to him as he died. However, this end… was a just penance for everything he had done.
"Father… everyone… I'm… so sorry…" His mind trailed.
And so, Larry breathed his last, dying as his head rolled on the snowy ground.
