#2 Chapter 60

Book:Christmas With the Wolves Published:2024-5-1

Roxanne stopped running the moment she left the Airport. She looked at the numerous taxis that were waiting for her, hoping she would board them to her destination.
As much as she would like to patronize them, none of these vehicles could take her to the goal, Oregon woods, Rockwood Pack… The Alpha’s Summit.
“To think I’ll have to use it this early… Luna’s Wish…”
Suddenly, Roxanne’s eyes glowed, and her hair sparkled with their natural blue color. It felt like time froze, as she stood all alone in the vast, stagnated world.
With a smile on her face, Roxanne readied herself for the race of destiny.
“Let’s go!”
>FWOOOOOSSSHHHHH!< She sped across countless buildings in an instant, overtaking the frozen cars beside her. She had already taken on her part-wolf form, shrouded in her brown fur and sharp nails, as well as her wolf tail and ears. Feeling the rush of power that she had never felt before, Roxanne made way for her destination. [A Few Hours Earlier] Asher watched as the people of the Pack gathered. Looking at the position of the sun, it was about 11:00am in the morning. He looked around him, watching the werewolves from other packs arrive in their multitude. "I believe I only called for the Alphas" Asher remarked, looking beside him as his eyes met Dax. "They emissaries delivered your message as instructed. I have no idea why so many members of the other packs are around." Dax responded. Asher had an inkling though. 'This is the final showdown. So they want a massive audience, eh? Perfect. I won't let things go your way, though…' He smiled within himself. "The Alphas are arriving!!!" A loud declarative sound was heard. It was from Damien. He was in charge of welcoming their VIPs. And so, as he said this, everyone who had gathered beneath the mount all looked back and saw the four Alphas approach. It was a surprise that all five of them appeared at the same time. Almost as though it was premeditated. The crowd parted for the four men, watching them move toward the Alpha's summit slowly. The pressure they carried made the normal werewolves to shudder, while the more experienced ones to tighten up. As soon as they finally reached the base, all Alpha's looked above them and caught the face of Asher looking at all of them in a condescending manner. "We greet the Wolf King." They all declared, bowing their heads. Asher was not fooled by their hypocrisy though. They were all vipers disguised as honorable wolves. Since they had come together, the Alpha's had unofficially announced to Asher that they were all allied in their stance. None of them were on his side. "Welcome. You may ascend." Asher told them. Of course, since they were Alphas, he at least had to give them the courtesy their position deserved. The Alpha's smiled, nodding in agreement. In a flash, they all climbed the summit, amazing everyone who watched them. Even though they were all elderly, these men far surpassed the ability of other werewolves. They were the Alpha's after all. The various werewolves that came from each respective pack also gathered, cheering for their leader's. As soon as the Alpha's arrived at the apex, beside Asher, Dax took a few steps back, since he was merely a Beta. "Why did you come with your members?" Asher asked, whispering in a barely audible tone, so only the Alpha's could hear him. "It's a grand ceremony, after all. Wouldn't it be best if all the Pack members bite witness to your choice? You're the Wolf King, not just Alpha of the Rockwood Pack. That makes everyone your responsibility, no?" Alpha Benson stated, smiling cunningly. Asher already knew everything he was spouting was bullshit, so he didn't bother furthering the conversation. "Where's your daughter?" Asher asked, changing the conversation. Alpha Benson smiled, happy that Asher was showing interest in his daughter. Of the two choices Asher had to pick, he preferred him marrying Camilla, since it would guarantee him more power. The second option would be for him to step down, and that only made matters complicated. If Asher was already showing interest in his daughter, then perhaps… "She's on her way. You know how women are." Benson grinned. Asher nodded. He turned to the other Alphas and made small talk with them for a bit, awaiting the final members of the show. He didn't have to wait very long. "Sorry I'm late, I didn't miss anything, did I?" A manly voice said, suddenly appearing on Alpha's peak. The Alpha's were all stunned by his appearance, since none of them sensed his presence beforehand, and his speed far outmatched theirs. Asher remained calm, as though already expecting his presence. He turned to face the newcomer. It was none other than the previous Wolf King, Klaus. He wasn't alone, though. Beside him was a girl Asher recognized quite well. This whole mess revolves around his mistake with her, after all. "Hi, Asher. It's been a while…." Camilla said, her voice trailing. She didn't have enough courage to look him in the eye after everything that had happened, and all that was ensuing. Her eyes darted away as she slowly distanced herself from Klaus, since it appeared that she was clinging on him. Klaus, upon noticing the awkwardness around, decided to speak. "I saw the girl on the way here and picked her too." Asher shrugged. It was most likely a lie. 'They most likely came here together from the start. That fool, Benson. So he's already attaching his daughter to Klaus, just in case his plan doesn't work with me.' Asher reasoned. "It's fine. Now that we're all here, we may begin the grand summit." Asher said, now once again giving his attention to the hundreds of wolves that were beneath him. Many members of the other packs were present, but not all. The women and children most likely remained, as well as a few others to guard their various packs. With hundreds of people before him as witnesses, Asher felt the weight of his decision. However, he was left with no regrets. Because, even though he was leaving the Pack, he wasn't going to let the perpetrator get away with this. 'Huu… let's get started.' "Everyone… this great colloquium is about to commence." Asher declared. Instantly, the noisy crowd became silent. Even if they didn't want to obey him, they had no choice. Asher's overwhelming aura poured everywhere, demanding the subjection of everyone under his voice. Even the Alpha's felt the might of Asher's words, and Klaus recollected his last fight with Asher. 'This cheeky brat. He's gotten even more powerful…' At this point, Dax descended the mount, since it was only meant for the stars of the event. With everything set, the gathering had started. No one knew the purpose, but Dax had a slight guess. 'The Alphas of all the Packs, The former Wolf King, Camila's presence, the gathering of the wolves… Asher, what are you thinking?' Asher retracted his aura and heaved a deep sigh. The audience awaited what he would say, the purpose for calling the meeting. Camilla and Benson whit themselves exciting looks. The other Alphas waited impatiently, hoping to reap the rewards promised them if they complied. Klaus, who knew Asher well, already knew the outcome. And Larry, who stood amid the crowd smiled. "And so it begins!" He whispered. "I have something to tell you all. As the Alpha of the Rockwood Pack, and Wolf King of this region… it is the reason we have all gathered here today…" Everyone held their breath and awaited Asher's words. "I have chosen my mate, and on this day… I shall reveal her to everyone."
