As Donald said those last words, Roxanne generated her wolf claws and pierced his heart, instantly crushing it with brute force.
Donald felt himself fading away, swallowed by the abyss of death. Any moment now and he would die.
His final thoughts as he severed his connection with his mortal coil made him consider if the emotions within him were truly his.
No, they had been embedded by his father, who in turn was educated by his father. The perspective he never gained in life became evident in death.
He never truly hated the werewolves. He never despised Roxanne… He was taught to. But, the swelling emotion of pride he had in her, for finally reaching a height he never could and the sadness he felt for betraying her trust… Those were all his.
“Roxanne… I’m sorry…”
Her mother and grandmother were going to die, if they hadn’t already… All because of him! He couldn’t repent of his actions, it was too late to apologize. There was only one last thing he could tell her before leaving the world forever.
“I-it was a good match, kid…”
Giving those last words, Donald died amidst the sea of blood he was drenched in.
“It’s finally over…” She muttered, maintaining her stoic look.
Conflicted on what to feel concerning the man who lay in his own puddle of blood, Roxanne turned her eyes away and glanced at Rita, who was confused as to how the events had turned out the way it did.
“R-Roxanne… what happened?” Rita whispered.
Roxanne’s eyes were distant, not entirely within their realm of reality.
“I-I have to go… my family needs me!”
As she said this, Roxanne dashed away in a flash. Her speed sent Rita into shock as she widened her eyes.
“I couldn’t… see a thing!” Rita muttered.
She didn’t know what to make of the new development, but she also couldn’t leave without fulfilling her mission. The entire room was littered with blood, and it was definitely going to cause trouble later. However, that was not the main concern for now.
“Roxanne!” Rita mumbled, activating her werewolf abilities as her eyes shone golden yellow.
She darted away from the room too, chasing after Roxanne.
“So that’s how it ended, just as I thought…” Larry mumbled as he listened to the voice over from the speaker in his room.
He had planted a bug within Donald’s premises in order to listen in to their every activities. From the moment they planned, even to their execution, he heard it all.
“Something bothers me though… for a moment there, it seemed like Donald was about to win. But then, Roxanne pulled something… what could it be?”
Larry couldn’t care less about who won. Either way, he had achieved his objective. Though, it would have been better if Rita died at least. That would be great.
“Useless idiots… they couldn’t even kill a single one!” He groaned.
However, a small smile planted on his face. Even though his pawns had failed to exterminate either of the two, he was certain of the success of the other group.
“I can’t listen in, so all I can do is predict what happens….” He thought within himself.
No matter how fast Roxanne and Rita were, they weren’t going to make it to her grandmother’s cottage before the deed would be done. Roxanne’s family members were going to die! That much was guaranteed.
“When Rita returns, I suppose I’ll hear the good news” Larry grinned.
The death of her mother and grandmother would definitely break Roxanne’s spirit, stealing away any remaining glimmer of hope there was for her to return to the pack.
Ultimately, she would decide to abandon her heritage as a werewolf… and when that happened.
“Asher will have no other choice, but to choose Camilla as his mate, or…” Before he could complete his sentence, Larry burst out into laughter.
Everything was falling into place.
“Now then, Roxanne… despair for me!”
>ZWOOOOOSHHH<
The silhouette of a beast flashed through the shrubs and trees, faintly illuminated by the wavering moonlight.
Moving at an unquantifiable speed, Roxanne, now in her complete wolf form was dashing through the forest.
Her eyes darted all around, glowing in the darkness as she navigated the quickest path in the thick woods which led to her grandmother's cottage.
"Faster! Faster!" She said to herself impatiently.
Judging by how prepared the Hunters were, they had most likely sent their other group to intercept her family at least hours before she arrived.
There was little likelihood that she was ever going to make it. She felt dizzy, a wave of exhaustion rushed through her.
"Gah… what is this?!" Roxanne groaned as she kept leaping.
Perhaps… Was this an effect of overexerting herself? Not only had she used partial transformation twice, she also used an unknown art, and now she was in her wolf form.
Judging by the little gap she had between the uses of her abilities, the energy consumption should have left her half dead by now. Yet, for the sake of her family… the same people she abandoned, Roxanne pushed on.
"Mum. Grandma…please be okay!!" Roxanne pleaded desperately .
[Meanwhile]
"You… you… why are you doing this?" Melissa croaked, feeling her entire body surging with pain. Before her was a bloodied corpse of her mother.
The pale body refused to move, drowned in the red hue around it.
Standing atop the body and surrounding Melissa we're at a dozen men, all with guns and special daggers laced with the worst match for her kind.
Millions of questions ran in her mind, like how her boss was among the men, how they knew of her identity and how they were able to find the cottage.
Unfortunately, there was no means of getting an answer. Instead, the only question she could ask was one born from years of living as a werewolf in hiding.
"Why? What the hell is this filthy mutt talking about? Why else? You're an abomination in this world!" One of the men said with disdain in his eyes.
His name was Luther… He appeared to be the leader of this squad if Hunters who were about to execute her after doing in her mother.
The rest of the hunters present sneered as they all enjoyed themselves.
"Now shut up, and die!"
