#2 Chapter 9

By the time Roxanne returned to her room, she was deadbeat tired. With a groan, she collapsed on the comfortable surface of her bed, as the warm texture sucked her in.
Even though she felt weary from being out for so long, she had a smile on her face as she lay on her bed.
“Today was fun… Even more than I thought” She said to herself.
It would soon be new year, yet she didn’t have anyone to spend it with.
“I shouldn’t be sulking about this now. I knew what I signed up for when I left…” She mumbled.
With those final words, her eyes gleamed with melancholy as she took in a deep breath.
“Ahh… I should rest. Tomorrow’s a bug day, after all.”
Finally closing her eyes, Roxanne drifted off to sleep, and while she slept, she was haunted by the same dream she had since she parted ways with her Mate.
“Asher… I-I miss you… If only you came for me back then… I-I…” She mumbled in her sleep as rears dripped from her eyes.
In this state of bittersweet tranquility, Roxanne crossed over to the new year.
[Meanwhile]
“There you have it, gentlemen” Larry said to the men who sat and watched his presentation in awe.
They couldn’t believe their ears. Such a young lad could come up with such a strategy that they could never have thought of.
It was almost as if the boy standing in front of them was a Hunter himself.
“You all look amazed by my strategy. Well, you shouldn’t be. It’s a simple plan, really. You were all just too stupid to realize it. Obsessing over Werewolves for centuries has made you lose any proper sense of reasoning. But… If you work with me, you’ll be able to achieve your desires”
The Hunters gulped as they all stared at Donald, expecting his response to Larry’s offer.
Donald felt frustrated, but even he had to admit it. The kid’s plan was more efficient than anything they could formulate.
“F-Fine… But don’t be mistaken. When we talk about exterminating every single one of your kind, you’re not exempted! We will show no mercy to your kind, even if it’s you-” Donald barked at the young werewolf.
“That’s fine by me. Like I said, I’m not on your side either. Let’s just call this a mutual benefit.” Larry smiled.
The room was filled with silence, when a sudden beep sounded from Nathan’s jacket. The sound alerted the Hunters, causing them to raise their weapons toward Nathan again in suspicion.
“Oh, would you calm yourselves. It’s just my watch.” Nathan sighed, shaking his head in disbelief.
The Hunters were too thick-skulled and paranoid for his taste.
“Well, as long as they’re useful” He thought to himself, reaching for the beeping device in his pocket.
He looked at the contents of his pocket watch and smiled.
“It looks like time’s up, gentlemen… I have to return to my other engagements” Larry said, placing the watch back into his jacket as he made to leave.
“W-Wait!” Donald yelled, banging the table he stood behind.
The imposing sound of Donald’s tone, and the loud bang his fist made with the table, irritated Larry, but he controlled his dissatisfaction and glanced at the Leader of the Hunters.
“What is it?” He asked.
“What do you hope to gain out of all this? If this plan succeeds… Every single member of your kin will die. What would make you go this far?” Donald asked with suspicion
He refused to believe a Werewolf would sell out his entire kin out of goodwill to their natural enemies.
“He must be after something…” Donald thought to himself.
“Oh? My reason… That’s none of your business. It’s not like I bothered asking you why you hunt Werewolves. That’s because it doesn’t matter.” Larry responded with a smug look.
“I see…” Donald responded with frustration_
“Besides, I didn’t think a Hunter would be so curious about the motivation of a Beast such as myself. What does it matter to you a lot, as long as you slay the werewolves to your fill.” Larry added.
His words rang true, making the group too stunned to say much else.
“Well then, I’ll be on my way” Larry said, excusing himself from the room.
Upon exiting the room, he could hear the muffled sounds of the men within. Of course, he could pick up the details, since the walls interfered with his senses.
“It doesn’t matter though… ” Larry smiled.
Within the office, silence still prevailed, as the grown man struggled to make sense of what had just transpired within the room.
They looked at Donald for a word, but he was still deep in thought.
“What do we do now? Can we trust his words?” Luther finally spoke up, looking concerned.
Donald frowned as soon as he heard the words his friend uttered.
“Trust? Are you joking? How can we trust the words of a Beast like him? While it is true that his plan is excellent, I couldn’t find any disadvantage in it, the promulgator is still a Werewolf!” Donald said with hate in his eyes.
Besides, the way Larry addressed the group made him mad with rage. How dare a mere animal talk to the superior in such a way?
“He needs to be culled!” Donald thought to himself.
“The Monster has served its purpose, foolishly revealing essential portions of the plan we will be adopting. But, his usefulness ends here!” Donald said to everyone.
“We do not negotiate with Beasts. We do not cower before Beasts… We do not obey Beasts. Furthermore, we are the Hunters, they are the prey!”
Upon his declaration, the group of Hunters cheered in agreement.
This made Donald smile in satisfaction.
“We’ll be eliminating him… As soon as possible. He is still a Beast, after all”
Larry heard every conversation going on within the room, as a pair of earpieces were stuck in his ears.
As he walked on the snowy street, he couldn’t stop himself from breaking into a smile.
“So that’s what they eventually chose, uh? Hehe hehe, just as I predicted.” He mumbled to himself as he continued listening in to their discussion.
“Ah… Humans are so predictable”
Increasing his pace, Nathan hurried to meet with the remaining members of the group. He still had an errand to run, after all.
“Just a little more time… Everything will fall into place” He thought, rushing through the frosty winds of winter.
“So this is how it looks like… The Human city, it’s been quite a while since I’ve last been here…” A deep tone sounded.
His crimson eyes stared at the tall buildings, stores, and people who constantly passed him by as he sat on the icy bench in the park.
His determined look glanced everywhere, as the fierce winds blew the long, dark hair covering his head.
The city was bigger than where he had grown up in, but he remained unfazed.
Here he was, alone in unfamiliar territory, but his goals remained unchanged.
“I won’t leave until I find you!” He mumbled, visible breath proceeded from his mouth as he spoke.
A few people, most especially women, stared at the hunky and handsome man who sat isolated, but he paid them no mind.
There was only one woman on his mind, the sole reason for leaving his Pack and territory.
“Roxanne… I’ve come here for you.” Asher thought to himself with resolve.
