Olivia’s heart almost melted when seeing Lucas pleading with her. But soon after, she hardened her heart against him.
“Lucas, I don’t know what you want to do, but I don’t have the time to play with you anymore. Get lost!”
She took a deep breath and said in a determined tone.
Lucas could only watch the backs of Olivia and her daughter disappear from his sight. He slammed his fist into the wall.
“Lucas, you’re a bastard!” He cursed himself in a low voice.
Olivia brought her daughter back to the ward. Once she entered the ward, she locked the door behind her and then sat down on the sofa looking out of wits.
Janet looked at her mother carefully. She probably knew that she had made a mistake. She didn’t dare to speak anything. She only opened her wide eyes and fiddled with her fingers as if she was feeling aggrieved.
“Come here.” After a long time, Olivia who had regained her consciousness called her daughter.
Janet walked towards her mother with small steps and timidly held the corner of Olivia’s coat. “Mother, don’t be angry with me. I know I am wrong.”
“Why did you say you are wrong?” Olivia displayed an expressionless face.
“I shouldn’t have sneaked out to meet daddy and I should have told mummy about it…” She pouted her lips and tears welled up in her eyes, “But mummy, I want to be with daddy! All of my friends can be with their daddy and I also want! Moreover, daddy and mummy likes each other, so why aren’t you two together?”
She gradually spoke louder in a sobbing tone, “I want to be with daddy! Mummy, don’t drive daddy away!”
Olivia was stunned and she quickly covered her face.
If she had a choice, she would also want to let her child grow up in a complete family.
But… she didn’t even know if Lucas loved her! If it was a joke again, she couldn’t afford to be hurt the second time!
But her daughter was not wrong to have such a wish.
Olivia understood the feelings of a child being raised in a single-parent family as she grew up without having a mother, so she didn’t want her daughter to experience this kind of sadness again.
“Janet, listen to me. If you want your daddy to be with you, then go and find him. However, mummy won’t go with you.” She wiped away the tears on her face and said in a serious tone, “I’m not angry. I’m just discussing it with you. Janet, mummy loves you, but mummy can’t let you grow up in a complete family. I’m sorry.”
Janet held her mother with her small hands tightly, and she looked worried in her big eyes, “Mummy, please don’t abandon me!”
She said with tears in her eyes, “I don’t want to leave mummy… I don’t want to be with daddy anymore. I don’t want.”
Her tears fell on the back of her mother’s hand until the back of Olivia’s hand turned wet.
Olivia hugged her daughter in her arms, not letting her see her reddened eyes.
She felt she was selfish as she was not able to give her child a complete family for her own sake.
But she didn’t want to be with Lucas!
What should she do? How could she let Janet have a complete family and live a happy life?
“Janet, you can do whatever you want to do.” Olivia paused for a while and said with determination, “You can go find your daddy, but … don’t let me see him. Promise me, okay?”
This was the best solution she could think of.
Janet was stunned and she did not raise her head. She just hugged Olivia tightly and said, “No, mummy. I don’t want to be with daddy. I just want to be with you.”
Olivia thought that she was such a bad mother.
