Olivia’s body was recovering steadily, and most of the doctors saw her as a miracle in the medical field. However, Olivia knew pretty well that everything was because of Janet. Due to her child, she had a new born hunger for life.
She wanted to live on so that she could watch her child becoming happy, so that she could watch her go to school, university, marry a guy and give birth to her own child.
However, on one night, Olivia suddenly fainted, which seemed to reset everything to the beginning. The whole hospital was buzzing with activity and the lightings were never off throughout the night.
Lucas never let himself get too close to Olivia, afraid of being discovered. At the same time, he didn’t let himself put too much distance between them, so he had come up to the same hospital she was staying in and got himself a ward. Therefore, when Olivia encountered some mishap, he would be fast to know too. Without giving it much thought, he appeared at Olivia’s ward, standing outside the door.
He watched the doctors and nurses scurrying around in Olivia’s ward and his fists slowly balled up.
What was happening?
Was… Olivia’s sickness showing signs of worsening?
He had the urge to rush in there and bring Olivia into his arms. That was the only way he could feel at ease, but at the same time he was afraid that he would then be discovered by others, rending him impossible to step into her world anymore in the future… At that exact moment, Janet suddenly saw him.
The little girl looked around and after making sure that everyone was busy, she tiptoed towards him.
“Are you here to see mummy?”
Lucas looked at this tiny girl in front of her and there was a strange bitterness in his heart. He lowered his body to the floor and asked, “Yes. How is your mummy? Why did she lose consciousness”
Janet raised up her brows as if she knew everything, “Mummy has fallen sick. The doctor said that her body is hot and her condition is bad. She would be fine after resting one night!”
Only then was Lucas able to ease his worries. He glanced at Olivia who was a distance away and suddenly felt that life was good. It was a good feeling to be able to participate in her life and watching her from such a near distance.
He was happy.
However… humans were always greedy.
When Janet asked with smiling eyes, “Do you want to get a close look at mummy? Talk to her or hug her.” He was a little hesitant, but his heart was pounding non-stop.
Janet then added, “Yesterday, mummy said that she really loved you.” She secretly glanced at Lucas, wanting to know what would be his reaction.
There was a blank on Lucas’ face for a moment. It was apparent that her words had given him a shock, but then his aghast face transformed into one with ecstasy.
He held his breath to suppress his agitated heart, “Can I?”
The way he was asking that carefully made Janet feel a certain strangeness. It also evoked some bittersweet feelings in her heart.
“You can, but we need to wait until those doctors are gone. I will secretly open the door and then you can come in!” She then guffawed like a child who had committed a prank, but her demeanour didn’t evoke any sense of annoyance on Lucas at all.
He agreed to her proposal in a low voice, and then he redirected his gaze to Olivia lying in the hospital bed. His eyes were filled with a tenderness, and he had a premonition that his family would be able to reunite soon.
The doctor left after making sure Olivia’s body temperature was not too high. Only Janet was left to accompany her.
Owen was busy with work and Jacob had matters to attend to, so they couldn’t present in the ward by Olivia’s side. Throughout the years, Olivia had gotten used to a little girl giving her accompaniment.
Everyone was living their own lives, and she didn’t want to become a burden to anyone. She was contented with her current life.
Despite that, never in her dreams she would imagine Janet opening the ward in the middle of late night and a man who she thought she could only imagine in her dreams came in.
