Chapter 37: My Daughter

Lucas watched Janet disappear in his sight under Owen’s protection. He sagged his arms and stood quietly for a while.
Keith came over and patted his shoulder, “Many years have passed, let bygones be bygones.”
The longer he followed Lucas, the clearer he knew what kind of feelings he had for Olivia.
He missed her so much that he almost went crazy.
Lucas always wished to hold everything that was related to Olivia in his hand.
However, Olivia was already dead.
The living people still have to continue to live. Being his friend, Keith did not want Lucas to live in the shadow of Olivia for his entire life. He shook his head helplessly and whispered, “There are still many people on the side. You should mind your behaviour and at least wait until the banquet ends.”
Lucas only then contained his emotions.

After leaving the door of the Foster family, Owen carried Janet in his arms and walked towards the car, “Owen, did I cause trouble?”
Although Janet was young, it did not represent that she was not sensible. She looked at Owen’s tense face and asked carefully.
Owen fastened her seatbelt then drove out of the Foster family’s house with a darkened face. He then helplessly rubbed his brow and said, “It’s none of your business.” He glanced at Janet and looked a little guilty, “But, Janet…perhaps you have to go back now.”
Janet pouted and was obviously unhappy. But, she still nodded understandingly, “Okay then, I want to say hello to Grandpa before I leave.”
Owen caressed her hair affectionately.
After a while, Janet still could not hold back from asking the doubts in her mind so she secretly asked, “Owen, was the person just now my father?”
The steering wheel gripped by Owen turned one hundred and eighty degrees. It scared Janet so much that she closed her eyes and forcefully clutched her seatbelt at once.
“How do you…know?”
After a long time, Owen asked with a dry and coarse voice.
The matter that Janet was the child of Olivia and Lucas was fully kept as a secret by the Cooper family. Nobody had ever mentioned this matter in front of Janet.
Janet blinked her eyes and said seriously, “Mom has his pictures, many. I saw her crying secretly and she looked very sad.”
She was merely six years old so the way she narrated was not quite clear. But, Owen understood what she said so he felt even more sympathetic.
Why would his younger sister live so miserably like this…
He did not speak for a long time. Janet thought she had said something that should not be said. In the Cooper family, there were apparently many secrets. She timidly lowered her head and looked extremely pitiful.
After taking a glance, Owen could not bear to look at her again. He was afraid that he would not be able to resist himself from telling her that the person was her father, the man whom her mother had missed until her death.
But, he did not say anything.
He silently drove the car back to the Coopers’ Mansion but he unexpectedly saw a person here.
Lucas.

The little girl’s look kept appearing in Lucas’s mind. He felt that if he missed her, he would definitely regret it. Therefore, he left all the matters at the banquet to Keith and drove all the way to the Coopers’ Mansion himself.
He wanted to find out who that girl was.
Owen pulled Janet to his back and looked at Lucas warily, “What for you come here!”
Lucas’s eyes stared at Janet continuously. He could not help but lower his voice, fearing that he would scare the little girl, “Tell me, who are you? Who is…your mother?”
He absolutely did not believe that she was Owen’s child.
Janet was seemingly frightened. She lowered her head and hid behind Owen. Like a hungry wolf whose territory had been violated, Owen stared fiercely at Lucas, “She is my daughter! What do you want to do! Lucas!”
