Chapter 44 jealousy

” Greetings to you, your majesty” Konan and Linda greeted at the same time. They have been waiting for me at the temple. I pitied both of them, if not for Meisi and her cruel plans, they could have been mothers already. Coming from someone who was humiliated for not having a child for years, I know how they feel.
Erxi led us to a private room at the temple, The two consorts were nervous but not as much as I was. A small bed was in the room and one of the temple servants helped Linda on it, while Konan knelt in a corner to watch.
” I do not really know how this works, but I pray it works for both of you,” I said stretching my hands to collect the earthenware containing the tears from Erxi. I removed my gloves and the tears instantly responded to my touch. Scooping some of it, I weaved it around my fingers while the two women watched in awe. I placed the tears on Linda’s exposed stomach and muttered a small prayer to the goddess. The tears disappeared into her skin but I could see faint lines travelling to her lower belly before disappearing totally. She gasped and shut her eyes before opening them again, and then she opened her mouth to speak.
” I make an oath to you and Goddess Natalí that from now on, every one of your commands I will obey,” She said before closing her eyes again, she jerked up and started vomiting a dark liquid from her mouth. The maids carried her out and I stared at Konan, waiting for her to come closer but she didn’t. Her eyes held so many emotions and I knew instantly that wouldn’t say anything with all the maids inside the room so I asked them to get out.
” I do not want to have a child,” She said immediately after the maids left the room. I sighed, and I held her hands. ” It is fine, whatever your wishes are, I will respect it” I gave her a soft smile.
” You won’t even question me about that decision”
” It is fine Konan. You know what you want and I admire that about you. What if you don’t want a child? And so? It is your choice and it shouldn’t be questioned” I said I saw her eyes getting watery and she stood up suddenly and gave me a tight hug while bawling her eyes out.
” I’m sorry, Hope I didn’t hurt the baby?” She said mid-tears, suddenly being conscious of how tight she was hugging me. But I only hugged her tighter in return.
” No Konan. I know you needed the hug, it’s fine but if you change your mind about that, you are always welcome at the temple” I patted her shoulder while she nodded. She smiled through her tears but started crying again.
” I wish you were my sister. You are too good to me, to all of us. I don’t understand why Meisi would want to do that to you. You are just…” She burst into tears again and I just laughed at her cute face.
” You don’t need to allow motherhood to dictate your life as a woman. Whether you have a child or not, it doesn’t make you less of a woman. Just be Happy” I wiped her tears with my napkin and she nodded. I wish I had enough freedom like her to also think like this in the past but our fate is different. I am walking my own path and she is also threading hers.
” Thank you so much, your Majesty”
” Now let’s see if we have another person waiting to be healed” I stood up wearing my gloves again. I carried the earthenware and she followed me outside. I noticed Eria first, a pink hue on her face that indicates that she was blushing while Annalise had a proud smirk on her face. What is going on between those two?
I went to the main hall of the temple to pray for my unborn and also for the king. I stared at the tall statue of Natalí and her green eyes similar to mine as I relayed my innermost wishes to her.
After that, we returned to the palace and I took a warm bath before changing into another dress for dinner. I got to the dining hall before Treven which was strange. He always arrived there before me no matter what.
He strolled a few minutes later with a frown on his face. I wondered what was going on with him again. Instead of coming to kiss me like he always does before every meal, he went to sit down without even offering a greeting to me nor did he reply when I greeted him. The maids started serving the food immediately but I was tired of the tension in the room.
” Venny what is going on?” I asked but he only shook his head and continued eating with the stone cold expression on his face. Slamming my cutlery on the table I turned towards him.
” I thought we were getting used to each other already. Why are you suddenly like this?”
” What were you doing with him?” He replied with another question and I had to blink to digest what he said.
” Who exactly are you referring to?” I sighed with a confused expression, I thought we were over with the switching Treven but here we are again. I guess his mood swings are back.
” Talin ” He breathed out, his anger finally showing on his face. I almost choked on air, is he kind of jealous? I only burst into laughter in response. Don’t tell me the big mighty king of Nayak is jealous?
” Are you jealous?” I smirked taking a new fork the maid offered me. I dug into the slices of roasted chicken and placed them into my mouth. The flavour burst into my taste buds nicely and I moaned in delight at the taste.
” Jealous?.. Me? Why will I be?” He stuttered and I only smiled at how cute he looked with jealousy written all over him. ” I just don’t want my cousin’s hands all over what is mine”
” Sounds like jealousy to me”
He raised his eyebrow at me, something he does anytime I’m winning in an argument. I continue with my food not minding his expression. I don’t really understand his jealousy. Having one pompous Treven is enough for me, I don’t need another one who is a womanizer version of him. Besides My Treven is enough for me, I love him, and his mood swings like that. Did I just say?
” Alright, I bumped into him at the market the other day and he came to apologize to me today” I explained and I saw relief on his face before he nodded his head.
” Stay away from him, he is a piece of trash,” He said with a serious expression and I nodded. I wonder why he was so uptight about his cousin though. Something must have happened in the past that I don’t know about and since he never introduced this particular cousin to me, I guess they must have something dark between them.
” You don’t have to tell me, I saw it with my two eyes” I mumbled trying to concentrate on the flavor of the food and the conversation. I raised my head to see his anger boiling, he dropped his fork and asked ” Did he…?” but I didn’t let him finish his question.
” No he didn’t do anything, he had no idea I am the queen” I cut off but he replied with a scoff.
” Trust me, He knows exactly who you are but he won’t try that nonsense anymore” He suddenly became interested in his food and he started eating.
” What did you do?” I asked frowning at his statement. Although I don’t really fancy the existence of his cousin I know what Treven is capable of doing. Patrick will have to spend months without using his hands and I don’t want to imagine what he will do to this cousin of his because of me.
” How is my prince doing today?” He changed the subject smiling at me. Something he was supposed to do in the beginning, I refuse to cave in.
” Do not try to change the subject. What did you do?”
” I didn’t do anything to him. I did ask him to a duel” He said with a chilly smile. I don’t like where all this is going. Just as I was putting my mind off what he just said, I saw some of his hornets fly inside the dining room. I was still getting used to the fact that it was normal for him. Immediately they got near him, His face contorted into fury, and his grey eyes shifted into faint red before going back to normal. That was the angriest I have ever seen him.
” More than hundreds of soldiers?! Slaughtered?!” His entire body shook as he roared the words.
