“Are you getting back with her?” Serena asked once the door was shut.
King Zed merely chuckled at the heaviness of her word. He could tell she forced them out of her mouth.
“Never. I’m sorry that I didn’t explain things to you, but it’s not what you think it is.” As he said it, he made to cup her cheeks again.
Serena took another step back, seeing her mate standing and discussing with another wolf who looked like royalty hunted her.
It made her furious.
King Zed seeing the anger in her eyes, didn’t reach out to her again but went on explaining his part.
“I’m never getting back to her, Serena. Even then, I hated her for what she did and wanted to imprison her before her death. Yes, she was my mate but no more.” As he said that, he kept a serious look on to show that he was truthful.
“So? Why isn’t she in prison now? Why is she in your castle, walking around as if she owns the whole place. She even walks into your bed chambers with pride.” Serena groaned.
She recalled how Aurora had glared at her earlier, which made her more furious. Her wolf Arya snarled. They both wanted to rip out her heart and feed it to her.
Her body shook as she thought of the joy she’d get seeing Aurora gone forever. Her heartbeat increased, and she fisted her hands into a tight ball.
Seeing all these, King Zed had to step in and embrace her. The aura suddenly emitting from her was getting as dangerous as his, and he didn’t like that.
He wrapped his arms around her to keep her from getting the same demons that have been tormenting him for years.
Serena tried freeing herself from his hold, but he held her more tightly.
“You are passing through a phase. Do not let it get to you. Keep calm.” King Zed purred.
Serena’s body stiffened as she asked, “how long is she staying here? When will she leave?”
“Until we get her father, who I sent my men after. We need to get him here first before I can let her go.” King Zed revealed.
“Tomorrow?” Serena gritted her teeth in question.
“I don’t know. It depends on…”
“So she might stay with us for longer? For a week or two, even a month?” Serena shrieked as she pulled out of the hug.
“It won’t get to a month.” King Zed assured.
“But it might get to a week, even two weeks. I… I won’t be able to stay under the same roof with her. I won’t… I can’t.” Serena shook her head.
“No! I’m sending her to the servant’s quarter. I’d her sent her to prison, but… she might die in there.” King Zed announced, looking away.
Serena huffed. So you’re worried about her? You’re concerned about whether she dies or lives? Serena thought as she glared at him.
Without uttering another word, she turned and walked out of her room and out of the castle’s door. She followed the path King Zed, and she walked the first day they took a walk.
She went under the tree near the small stream and sat down. Her body was getting hotter each passing minute.
Serena wasn’t recognizing herself or the feeling she was having.
Was it jealousy or anger? They were all new to her.
She closed her eyes and rested her head against the tree. She made to think of other things, she drove to think of her brother, Isaac, but the picture of Aurora kept popping into her head.
She growled as she opened her eyes.
“Bitçh!!!!” She screamed out angrily and ruffled her hair. Why won’t you get out of my mind? The way Aurora smiled at her evilly only kept reappearing inside her head.
Suddenly, her breathing was increasing. Her body temperature went over 200. She began losing her senses when suddenly a hand touched her head.
In a second, everything went back to normal. She opened her eyes to look at the person touching her to see King Zed.
“How….?” She could only ask. How did he manage to make it all go away?
“I felt it too. I thought you were losing your mind because I started losing mine.
You shouldn’t forget we are mates even tho the proper ritual hasn’t been performed yet.” King Zed spoke so softly as he took a seat beside her.
“You felt it.”
“Yes, everything you felt. I felt it. It’s the work of the mate bond. I had let you leave because you needed it, but when you started losing it, I had to step in. And I understand everything you’re going through because I’ve gone through them. I want you to be a little patient. I’ve had Aurora restricted to a room.
You won’t see her. Feel her until she leaves. She won’t cross you again. I made a mistake not leaving her guarded. I didn’t know she could enter my room again. I had no idea you could run into her because you were at the company.
I also didn’t want to let you know because I feared you might become like these. But I’ve realized my fault. You are my mate, and I shouldn’t keep any issue away from you. I should always share them with you.” As King Zed spoke, Serena could only stare at him. It was the first time she had seen him talking remorsefully.
He wasn’t ordering around or making demands but was apologizing and trying to make her understand things.
Serena felt guilty for reacting the way she did even tho she had no idea why her anger skyrocketed to that level.
“I’m sorry too. I don’t know what came over me, I had all these dangerous thoughts, and it scared me to no end. I was also scared you were going to push me away since she returned.” Serena pursed her lips as she explained.
King Zed let out a sigh before moving closer to her again. He let her rest her head on his shoulder and held her firmly to himself.
“I know. I know.” He repeated.
*
Serena opened her eyes the next day on the king’s bed. She turned to search for King Zed but didn’t find him.
Where did he go? Serena asked herself as she sat up on the bed. She further looked around the room but couldn’t find him.
Just then, the door opened, and King Zed came out from the bathroom with a towel dangling below his waist. Droplets of water rolled down his muscled chest, making him look sexy to her.
She opened her mouth as she drooled on him. King Zed noticed these and ended up chuckling.
“You are awake. Are you going to keep staring at me like that?” King Zed teased her.
“Um… no, of course not. Morning your Highness… I mean Zed. Wait, are you going somewhere?” She asked, standing up from the bed.
“Morning, I have a lot of things I need to do. Staying with you the whole of yesterday and this morning but not even touching you is killing me. I’m calling the council members and my adviser. I need their advice and opinions on how the ritual should go.” King Zed explained.
Having an idea of what he was saying, Serena still probed. “What ritual?”
“The mating ritual, once it’s completed, then I won’t be able to hold back anymore. I won’t watch you sleep hungry.” King Zed explained as he searched for the clothes he was going to wear.
Serena’s lips curved up into a big smile. Yesterday they were both tempted to make love and forget every other thing, but King Zed had self-control.
She went closer and wrapped her arms around his big body.
“So what is gonna happen after the mating ritual is completed?” She asked.
“Hmmm, I don’t know. I guess we’ll have to wait until that time.” King Zed mumbled.
Serena got embarrassed and ended up hiding her face behind his back.
“What? You don’t want anything to happen?” King Zed inquired.
“No, it’s not like that. It’s just…” She paused, lost for words.
“It’s just what?” King Zed went ahead and asked again.
“Are we going to do it? The thing… like.. what they do in movies, like are you going to enter….” Serena paused again as her cheeks flamed up.
She heard King Zed chuckle. He was enjoying listening to her say those things.
“What things? I still don’t understand.” King Zed played dumb.
“Nothing, forget it. I’m leaving,” Serena whispered before running out of his bed chambers.
*
“So, your Highness. They have finally gotten him. They are bringing him to the royal dungeon now.” Beta Adam announced to king Zed.
“Good. They told him we have his daughter, right?” King Zed probed.
“Yes, of course. He made to fight your men off until he got the video you sent them.” Beta Adam explained, smiling.
“When are the council members getting here? Tell them not to waste a minute of my time. Else they won’t like the consequences.” King Zed grunted.
He doesn’t like being kept.
“Yes, of course. They are almost here, Your Highness. They are almost here,” Beta Adam tried to calm him down.
“I’m here, Your Highness,” Elena announced.
“Oh, Elena?” Beta Adam went and opened the door for her to get in.
“Congratulations, your Highness,” Elena bowed numerous times in greeting.
“I’m glad the moon goddess granted us our wish and made everything written in the book come through.” Elena was happy that King Zed got another mate.
The truth was, the first time she saw Serena at King Zed’s company, she felt strange energy emitting from her. She thought Serena was one weird wolf, but then she heard Serena mention her name and surname. She got a bit confused as to why Serena had the same surname as King Zed.
Could there be anything? She had thought.
“It’s all thanks to you, Elena. If you hadn’t done what you did, then I might not have recognized her as my mate. I might have even killed her off on one of those occasions.” King Zed sighed, recalling how harsh he was to Serena.
*You need to apologize to her.* Davies, his wolf told.
*I will. Of course.* King Zed answered him back.
“If you hadn’t set up those plans with Felicia and Adam. Probably there won’t be happening.” King Zed was really grateful.
“I’m only glad you got to recognize her as your own, your Highness. I had hoped for a long time for a soul mate who you’d spend the rest of your life with if Adam here leaves you.” Elena looked up at Beta Adam and nodded for him to speak.
“Um… Yes, I hoped so too.” Beta Adam cleared his voice.
“What is that? Are you going somewhere, Adam?” King Zed probed.
“No, not yet. Of course not. My place remains here with you.” Beta Adam answered.
A glare from Elena made him speak up.
“Um… I’m sorry, your Highness, but… I.. I… I found my mate.” He revealed.
King Zed’s brows joined together. “Your mate?” King Zed asked, surprised.
“Yes.”
“When was that, and why are you just telling me?” King Zed inquired.
“Because… I didn’t know to tell you then, and I wanted you to recognize Serena as your mate before leaving.” Beta Adam answered.
“You don’t have to leave, Adam. You can stay here with your mate.”
“Um… she… she… she… she.. she’s not a wolf, she’s a hybrid, a… a… a vam.. vampire and a wolf. The last of her kind. She’s scared you might end up killing her, so she doesn’t want to stay in the castle with you.” Beta Adam revealed.
“A vampire? I thought they all died.” Now King Zed was really confused.
“Your Highness, not all. There are still Vampires alive somewhere, and Adam happened to be linked to a half-vampire.
He found her when you two traveled for one of your numerous meetings but hid it from you. He knows how you hate vampires and didn’t want to anger you with one. But as time went on, he confided in me.” Elena explained.
King Zed thought for a while before nodding his head in approval.
