Writer’s POV
Isaac returned back quickly with the keys and got in the car, Serena following him just as Elena’s car drove out the first gate.
He started the car, following her and out the estate until they reached a fancy restaurant. Serena got down going to meet Elena who was already standing at the entrance of the building.
“So, I can see that your brother is overprotective of you.” Elena said shooing a guard who had come to stand beside her, an umbrella in his hand to shield her from the blazing sun.
“Yes, I’m sorry about his behavior. He just.. doesn’t want anything to happen to me.” Serena said, glancing anxiously at Isaac who was standing not very far off, watching them with curious eyes.
“Let’s go in.” Elena ordered, taking the first step into the restaurant. Serena turned to Isaac and shrugged, he rolled his eyes before she filled her in.
They took a seat close to the window, a few people glanced curiously at them but said nothing. She could already see a waitress coming over.
Serena looked around nervously and calmed when she could see Isaac from where they sat.
As they say opposite each other, Serena couldn’t help but feel extra conscious as she played with her nails. Unconsciously, she registered in her mind that Elena was the second person to take her out.
Elena reached for the menu just as the waitress got to them, smiling widely but Serena could see the tiredness in those eyes.
She picked a menu too, there was nothing here that was in English. It was all Spanish. She probably missed the Spanish restaurant name outside. Suddenly, she felt so conscious. Glancing around briefly, she noticed everyone was in expensive clothes and she stood out plainly.
I should have changed my dress. She thought sadly. Pointing to a random meal on the menu when Elena ordered hers. The waitress left them promising to be back.
“So Serena, how has it been for you? I mean staying at the king’s castle.” Elena asked, starting a conversation.
But Elena wanted to know the relationship this little wolf had with the king.
“It hasn’t been easy at all. But with Isaac, everything has been going smoothly too and much better.” Serena responded.
Elena nodded once.
“I’m glad he is there for you although he looks like a jerk.” Elena snorted.
Serena’s mouth flew open at her comment. She doesn’t know whether to laugh or stay quiet.
“What about the king really? How did you manage to piss him off to make him turn you his slave?” Elena asked again, folding her arms on the table.
“I.. I.. spilled hot coffee on him.” Serena murmured shamefully.
“How many times now, huh? You really do enjoy spilling coffee on him, I’m starting to think that.” Elena mocked, smirking visibly.
“No, it’s not like that. The first time was an accident, the second time was also an accident, well, the third time was out of fear. He suddenly moved when I was beside him and the next thing was the coffee splashing all over him. I didn’t mean either of them.” Serena said quickly, almost palming her face in regret as the memories surfaced. She really does mess up sometimes. Literally.
“It’s okay. People make mistakes.” Elena said, a hint of amusement in her tone.
“Not with the king. He almost killed me the day before, I was lucky to be saved by his Beta, Adam. I’m really scared of him.”
“Come on, everyone is scared of him. You don’t have to kill yourself over it. Even after so many years with him, I still fear him very much.” Elena said sincerely.
“Really?” Serena looked up at her in bewilderment.
“Uhm.. yes.” Elena nodded like it was the most obvious thing on Earth.
The waitress came to them along with their food. She neatly placed it on their table and even though Serena had no clue what it was. It looked delicious so she dug into it.
“You see, I’ve known the king since we were kids. He is like that because he is always alone, no family, he doesn’t have many friends either and his mate…” Elena paused, chewing her food for a moment, and got lost in her thoughts before turning back to Serena.
“Anyways what I’m really trying to say is that he hates females, he doesn’t hate you in particular so you shouldn’t kill yourself because the king punished you. He does that a lot, he doesn’t usually favor anyone, all you have to do is remain strong.” Elena advised.
“Why does he hate females?” Serena couldn’t help but ask, chewing down her meal absentmindedly.
“Well, it has something to do with one certain female who.. I shouldn’t be telling you this but the lady claimed to love him but she is dubious, a liar, a thief, she’s the worst kind of person.
And aside from that , when the king was much younger, ladies older than him tried to get under his pants forcefully. He was almost raped.” Elena said sadly as she stopped eating, looking down at her food as if relieving the memories.
Serena gasped in surprise, almost choking on her food as she quickly gulped down the water on their table.
“What?” She finally found her voice.
No wonder he disliked the female gender. Serena thought sadly, ignoring the stares she received from people.
“Serena, he was only a lonely boy then. A lonely boy with lots of burden, he was forced to become king at that time too. The king has actually gone through a whole lot on his own and eventually, he shut everyone else out of his life and became the scary, cold king you know. One who doesn’t show mercy.” Elena said sadly, she could almost feel the despair in the air.
“But.. but why are you telling me this, madam?” Serena asked curiously.
“Because he needs to change. We are hoping a miracle can happen and he changes for the better.” Elena replied and before she could say anything else, her phone vibrated in her pocket.
A low growl escaped her lips as she answered.
Suddenly losing all her appetite, Serena dropped her cutleries, resonating over Elena’s words.
“It’s from the office. I have got to leave now, the king has left a lot of things to me. I need to go take care of his empire.” Elena said, rising to her feet and smiling sadly at Serena.
“So, Serena, be strong and don’t think of him too badly. You’ll get through it and everything will turn out in your own favour soon, just remain loyal to him and show him that you are more than you appear to be. Show him it’s okay to let people help him.” She said, dropping a wad of cash on the table before walking out of the restaurant.
“Be strong and don’t think of him too badly. Everything will turn out in your own favor soon. Just remain loyal and show him that you are more than you appear to be.” She repeated.
“Why would she say those words to me?” Serena thought out loud, resting her back against the chair.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t see Isaac had walked in.
“What words?” He asked, taking Elena’s seat and taking a bite out of her meat.
Serena smiled at him before shaking her head.
“Nevermind.” She mumbled.
“Oh, so you are keeping secrets from me now, huh!?” Isaac feigned annoyance, dropping the food.
His sister laughed, sticking out her tongue to him playfully.
Isaac scoffed before rolling his eyes.
“But seriously, you have to tell me why she did all these.” Isaac stated, pointing at the food and the money for the meal on the table.
“I thought you listened or something.”
“I didn’t. I just didn’t, I was hoping you could tell me.” Isaac pouted and she sighed.
“She was just asking about how I’ve been coping then I told her my big brother has been making everything easy for me. She told me that you are a jerk, an overprotective jerk.”
Issac huffed.
“What? She told you that. I’m not a jerk. I’m only a cute player.” He said, patting his face proudly.
She burst out in laughter earning irritated glares from other customers but she paid them no mind. Hanging out with her brother was the best thing ever.
“Serena?” A familiar voice called out of behind her and all the hairs at the back of her hair stood.
She knew that voice anywhere.
She paused, then took her eyes up to see Kate standing there, looking sophisticated and beautiful like the model that she was.
“K.. kate?” Serena stuttered standing to her feet, her eyes not leaving her sister.
“What are you doing here?” Her eyes glanced at both her and Isaac who sat confused at the table.
“I.. I came here to..”
“Oh, I get in. He brought you out, follow me out. I need to speak with you.” Kate interrupted before heading outside, swaying her hips seductively.
Isaac stood immediately, reaching protectively to his sister. When he shifted away.
“Issac, it’s okay. I’ve lived with her since I was a baby, she won’t do more harm to me than she already did.” Serena whispered.
Isaac relaxed back on the seat and gave her a nod before sitting calmly, a frown on his face.
“Thank you.” Serena followed Kate out to where her car was parked. Her sister rested her back against her car before looking up at Serena with a frown.
“Being the CEO’s slave doesn’t have much of an effect on you. You are still the same.” Kate commented.
“You didn’t call to check up on me.”
“Why? Were you expecting me to call you?” Kate frowned. It hurt her to hear this but she said nothing, only lowering her head in shame.
“Anyways, who is that guy you are with? Well, if I were you I’m gonna stay far away from him. He looks like a player and all he is looking for is to get under your pants, to use you. He couldn’t possibly ask someone like you to be his girlfriend, no. His girlfriend has got to be way cuter, she can’t be an ugly thing who brings misfortune.
It’s not like I really care who you hang out with, I’m just telling you to be careful. Any guy that dares come close to you will only want to use you. I know guys and that’s why I’m warning you.” Kate said harshly before looking down at her nails as if bored.
“Why do you hate me so much?” Serena asked, lifting her eyes up to stare at Kate. Her heart breaking into s thousand pieces as tears started to well her eyes.
“Hate you? Why won’t I? You killed our mother. If only she hadn’t left my dad for yours for a while, then she couldn’t have carried you in her womb.
She left with your father who did her no other good than to put you in her. Where is he today anyways? I’m sure he doesn’t want you either.” Kate hissed at the end without remorse.
“Because of you, I lost my mom at a very young age. And you still ask me why I hate you?” She spat angrily.
“I didn’t ask for that either, you know. I never had a mom to raise me too.” Serena cried.
“That’s because you killed her!” Serena flinched at her words. Even though she had heard it a lot, it still hurt everytime Kate said it.
“Can’t you forgive me? It’s been years already, can’t you just forgive me this once?”
Kate huffed and looked away.
“I don’t want to. I don’t think I can either because whenever I look at you I remember you as a monster who killed my mother.” She said.
“Will you shut up already with your insults?” Isaac, who had been listening to their conversation from the restaurant, walked out angrily. Pinning a glare at Kate who said nothing else, instead got into her car and zoomed off, not sparing her sister another glance.
Isaac turned to Serena angrily but it all melted when he saw the tears she had been holding back fell from her eyes.
“Gosh! What on earth will I do with you, Serena?” Isaac groaned, pulling her into a warm hug.
She wrapped her hands around him immediately, sobbing loudly.
It was another minute before she stopped and Isaac led her to his car.
“Seriously, you shouldn’t let her speak to you that way. She is even worse than the king, saying all those things to her blood sister. I’m sorry I didn’t come out earlier to stop her.” Isaac apologized.
“No, it’s not your fault. And I’m used to her mean words already.” Serena sniffed, wiping her tears with her sleeve.
“Used to? Come on, with the way you are shedding tears? It doesn’t show you are used to it because you’re obviously still getting hurt.”
“I’m just crying because. Because what she said is true, I killed my mom.” Serena said, blinking quickly to avoid more tears from running down her cheeks.
“Hey! You didn’t kill your mom. Stop letting her get into your head.” Isaac slapped his hand in the steering, drawing her attention to him.
“It’s just true, Isaac. When she gave birth to Kate, she came back home happily and in good shape but she died in the labor room while trying to bring me into this world. If she had known that bringing me into this world could cause her, her own life then maybe, she could have aborted me or something.” Serena cried
“Look, S, she is human. And you are a wolf, it’s only natural that she died bringing a wolf into this world when she is human.
Humans aren’t as strong as they look. My best guess is, she already knew what she was signing up for when she agreed to keep you and bring you into this world. So quit crying love.”
