Chapter Fifteen: The Argument

The place was great! Classy inside and out, despite the many people already dancing on the floor. It made sense of the long line that was outside.
They took a round-table booth up in the mezzanine, better known as the VIP area. From there, they can easily view a very well-known Progressive House Dutch DJ playing his signature live music. Siel’s jaw dropped when she recognized the young male celebrity behind the turntable stage.
“Di! Is that…”
“Oh my gosh… Isn’t he your favorite, girl?”
Suddenly, the said DJ looked up and waved at their table. Siel and Di turned to their men and saw them returning the wave.
“You know Martin Garrix?!” Siel gasped.
“Done business before,” V said, hiding an amused smile seeing how his mate was fangirling so much at that moment.
“Good one, V,” praised Roth, his wolf.
“Thank you, thank you. About time you admitted that I’m doing something good.”
“I said good, not great, V,” Roth corrected jokingly.
“Of course. Whatever, dude. You’re not taking this smile from me tonight.”
“Let’s go dance, Di!” Siel said excitedly, almost jumping up from her seat.
Di nodded and was about to get up from her seat when Aaron took her hand. She looked back at him and was instantly on guard.
“You guys go ahead, we’ll see you there,” he seriously said.
V nodded at Siel, and they left hand in hand, leaving Di, suddenly feeling uneasy… “What is it, love, don’t wanna go dancing?” she asked, trying to keep calm.
“Oh, I do, but first, I wanted to ask you something…”
Oh no, please no… screamed her mind.
“Sure, tell me,” said her lips.
“Di… I know you’re living independently, and have your life in the city, but it would make me really happy… If… you know…”
Pleasedontsayitpleasedontsayitpleasedontsayit!
Right then, the music drops, for just one second, as Aaron blurted out what she feared the most…
“Come live with me, please?”
As the music resumed, Diwa went pale. The Beta automatically saw the change, despite the neon lighting of the club.
Terrible timing, man… And I don’t think that was the reaction that you were expecting, right?
I know, Onyx, but… Give her a moment… Oh damn, I hope I didn’t mess it up.
Well, you were the one who said, what could go wrong, right?
Just shut up for a moment, will ya?! Don’t jump the gun! Not just yet!
Suit yourself, Aaron…
“Di… Love… Is there something wrong? I mean with you saying yes to the marks and all, I thought…”
“A, I… I’m sorry… but I don’t want to live with you.”
Aaron couldn’t believe what he was hearing. After all the good things that have happened before and during Christmas. Now this…
“What?! Why? Did I do something wrong, cherry pie?”
“No… I mean, it’s not you… it’s me.”
“You… You’ve gotta be kidding me! Di, please…”
“No, I mean it… I… just can’t go back to live in the Packhouse. I can’t… I won’t…”
“Would you mind telling me why?”
“I… have too much going on in my life… to move right now.”
Oh, that’s such a great excuse, Diwa. Now he’ll think that we care more about your job than how much you love him! Opal reprimanded her.
Di ignored her as she felt her heart break, seeing Aaron’s hurt in his eyes.
“Oh, I see. So, I was good for a few days off, but not for living with me?” The man snarled. “Be honest now and tell me… What is it that’s stopping you from staying with me for keeps?”
“I. Can’t. Tell. You!” she hissed through gritted teeth, her fists curling until her knuckles were white.
“You don’t trust me, Di? Is that it? Come on, I think I deserve at least an explanation… Or do you believe what your brother said about me, huh? The women in my past? It’s that, isn’t it?”
“Damn it, leave Ma’Heron out of this, ok?!”
“You’re defending him now? So, you’re finally convinced that he’s right instead of giving me a chance to prove myself to you?”
“It’s nothing like that, A! You just don’t understand…” hissed Di, gritting her teeth.
“And how can I understand if YOU DON’T TELL ME?!” he blurted out, finally raising his tone.
Di, say it. He’s our mate, he’ll get it! Come on! If you can’t, just give me control. I can tell him myself!
“Something happened around the time when you left for training, so many years ago…”
“Yeah, and what has that got to do with it?” snapped Aaron angrily. “Are you blaming me for leaving you?”
Diwa suddenly felt like he just slapped her. Her body began to shake while her hands started to turn cold.
But the rejected Beta didn’t notice her reaction at once since he was already hurting.
“Look, it’s so obvious that you’re just forcing yourself to tell me this. I’m not blind, Di! You’re not even trusting me enough to say it willingly!”
You’re wrong, Opal. This is not the right time to tell him… I don’t think there will ever be a right time.
Diwa no, please… we can’t do this to him.
And what is he doing to me, Opal? I can’t tell him about THAT while he’s like this!
Meanwhile, the bewildered Beta has now started to sense her reactions and couldn’t see why she was acting like this. Unfortunately for both of them, his emotions were eating up his interviewer’s logic and his pain was pushing all of his concern as a mate out the window…
Why the hell is she reacting like this? It’s a simple yes or no. Is she that afraid of commitment that she would do this to me now? Is that all there is to it? Random panic attacks because of me leaving her back then? It’s just like the day we let our wolves out… but is that incident even related?
Diwa, seeing that Aaron was getting more frustrated with her silence, decided to just do the next best thing. The one thing she has always done in her life whenever things get too much for her to handle…
“I… I’m sorry, but I don’t want to talk anymore. It’s fine, you obviously don’t want to hear me out,” she tearfully gasped, taking her purse then rushing downstairs.
“DIWA!” Aaron belted furiously, his chest twisting from a pain worse than from the gashes he received days ago. “What the hell…”
Damn it, Aaron, what did you do now?
What do you mean, what did I do now? I don’t even understand what just happened, Onyx!
And you’re just gonna stand there?! GO AFTER HER, AARON!
The confused Beta got up, then stopped midway through the mezzanine space. He inhaled deeply, turned around, then walked over to the VIP bar…
No, Onyx. She doesn’t want to be with me, right? I’ll let her be for now.
WHAT?! Dude, I know you’re hurt right now, and I can feel it, ok? But I don’t think leaving her alone is a good idea! Something might happen to her and…
She’s a f**king werewolf, Onyx! Besides, we’re half an hour away from the Packhouse. She’ll probably get a taxi and then sleep at her parents’ place.
Aaron, I have a bad feeling about this! GO AFTER HER!
She’s smart, strong… and she doesn’t need me. Now, shut up and let me drink in peace!
