Chapter 25: HE WILL BE HERE FOR REAL

Book:Mated To A Vampire Published:2024-6-4

“The enemy!” She growls. “Hahaha, the rogue!” She deepens her voice.
“Dylan!” She yells, opening her mouth wide. Wider than it could have opened. Dad shakes as he hears his name, and he stands up. I stand up too, and grab his atom, burying my head in his shirt.
“She can’t turn. She’s not glad. Not pretty glad.” Dylan clips, trying to collect himself.
Mum stands up, and goes to the kitchen. She returns immediately with a dagger, and she raises it up, at five feet distance from us. Then she rushes to the glass door leading to the visitor’s room. She smashes the glass door and the shards sprawls on the ground. She laughs out loud as she does and Dad sighs.
“Hey, do you know how much that costs!” Dad finally says, not able to bear the loss. He walks up to her, but I hold his hand.
“Don’t go. She’s mad.” He jerks off my hand and I yell. “Don’t go!!” He stays transfixed to the spot, and he faces back. He faces the other direction and moves on. I hurry after him, and he walks faster.
“Mum, what’s wrong?” I ask her, hesitantly drawing close.
“What’s wrong?” She replies and chuckles. “Where?” Her mouth comes up and down as though she’s munched hot jambalaya.
“This glass door costs $300.” Dad says, and i glare at him. “$300!” He says again, trying to pick up the shards.
Mum calms herself, and goes into her room. I tiptoe after her and once she shuts her door behind her, I place my hear at the doorknob, eavesdropping whatsoever she will soliloquize. Suddenly, her room blares with music and I can hear thuds from a spot to another. Dad is still busy groaning at the loss of the $300-glass door. He stands up and seems surprised to not see me behind him. Once he looks around the sitting room, I raise my head and wave my hand.
“Here, Dad.” I whisper but it seems he heard me. He walks up to where I am eavesdropping.
“Dad, can you hear the music?” I ask him.
“It’s so loud.” I add.
“What music?” He deadpans.
“Can’t you hear it?” I ask again, and he places his ears on every part of the door. I roll my eyes at him; he lowers his face to mine.
“You have the ability to hear.” My eyeballs increase at what he said, but he only stares the more. I chuckle when I heard from my mind that he isn’t supposed to tell me that until I clock eighteen. Well, in a week’s time, we’ll be done with June. Then to August. May 6 next year, and I’ll get mated. Ben? Goddammit!
“Okay, thank you, Dad.” I tell him. I can still hear the loud music but mum doesn’t rock her body to it. I can only hear her laugh hysterically. I wonder how Dad can’t hear. Well, I, Sophia Dylan, only owns that ability. In this town. In this country. In Berkerley, lol.
“Shall we knock on the door?” I ask him, trying to avert his stares. He gulps and stands to his feet. His eyes suddenly turn blue then normal again. Greg mindlinks him immediately and I can hear it.
“Boss, please save me. I’m sorry.” He cries but Dylan doesn’t respond. Oh, Dylan. My first time calling him by his name. For real?
“I only met with my mate and we had a lovely time.” He says. “Please save me. A rogue clutched onto my back in place of my mate and here I am, tied to a chair.”
“You’re not a brave Beta. Such a coward! Why would a rogue tie you down, and you can’t save yourself?” Dylan replies in his mindlink as I listen attentively.
“I’ve not learnt well. How to fight rogues. I’ve not.” He cries loud. “Please send the pack members here to rescue me.”
“Alright Greg. We will talk when you arrive. I’ll send the pack members if Karl agrees.” Dylan replies and sighs.
“Thank you.” He says. “I will wait.” The blue reflection on the tiles have faded away now. I look at Dad, and my mouth goes agape when I notice the door creaking open. We walk fast into the sitting room, and mum joins us.
“So, have you guys agreed?” She asks, taking her seat.
“Why did you destroy the glass door?” Dad asks, clearing his throat after.
“I wanted to shift. I don’t only shift when I’m pretty glad. I shift when I bleed too much too.” She adds and I roll my eyes up and down, loading my memory.
That day! Oh I remember! That she fell me down and let the shredded vegetables sprawl on the ground while she turned her back to me. She was shifting then. Oh! Because that day, she was pretty glad. But, men, why hide the secret?
Or…
I hope it’s not what I’m thinking. I’d better not think of it.
“I’ll repay.” She pecks Dylan, and Dylan flushes his face.
“Dad, let’s go to the penthouse.” I tell him. “Since I’m not in school anymore. Maybe for now.” I pout my lips. “I miss Rose.”
“Sorry, babygirl. We will make sure you go back to school.”
“By the way, how did you know that I was in a pit?” I ask. “I don’t have a scent yet.”
“I” I say one by one.
“Am”
“Not”
“Eighteen”
“Yet.”
Dad smiles and replies. “Karl lord summoned me and told me you are in danger.”
“Oh, I have to go appreciate that. But wait, how did you know?”
“Curiousity won’t kill you.” Mum snubs.
“It won’t, sure.” I reply, facing her. I face Dad again, and ask. “How did Karl lord know that I was in danger.
“Through mindlink.” He replies.
“Whose?” I stare at the atmosphere, impatiently waiting for a response from Dylan.
“I don’t know but it must be the Alpha of a pack or an hybrid.” I save the statement in my memory, and load it again for a different topic.
“Dad, I was taught…” I tell Dad but his eyes suddenly turn blue. He’s being mindlinked. I put my mind to rest so as to listen attentively.
“The rogues are here.” Susan, as she called herself, says.
“Go fight them.” Dylan replies immediately in his mindlink. “Just rogues.”
Mum’s eyes turn dark green at once and different light colours fill where we are, scaring me. I try to listen to mum’s mindlink. Yes, I can. But I have to detach from Dad’s mindlink.
“We are here for you. Kind regards, Alpha Jude.” I suddenly hear and mum’s eyes turn normal while I switch to hear Dad’s mindlink.
“Not just rogues, boss.” She must have been saying this for the umpteenth time.
“The SPLITMOON pack is here.”
Dad eyes turn normal, and we stare at each other for minutes.
