“Still not leaving, waiting for me to carry you?”
Overhead, Kent’s low, teasing voice caused her heart to flutter lightly in an uncontrollable manner.
Quickly, the flash of fluttering in her heart was quickly withdrawn and her face quickly composed, “Sir Lewis always likes to joke.”
Kent shrugged angrily, “I’m not joking, that’s true, I don’t mind if I have to carry you if you don’t feel well enough to walk.”
Blanche got out of the car quickly and glanced at him inside, “I’d like to thank you for your kindness, but I think I’m fine and I’m not half unwell.”
“Women just like to talk out of turn .” Kent whispered with a helpless sigh, before pushing open the door and getting out of the car and going around to the trunk to get the groceries out.
Blanche hadn’t expected Kent to be as good a cook as he said he was, but a very good one! Even the handling of a whole chicken was as skillful as if he had done it a thousand times before.
As if noticing her leaning over the kitchen doorway and watching, Kent suddenly spoke up, “What, are you worried I’m going to mess up?”
“No, I’m just curious, a man like you may have a smooth ride in the business, but if you were to cook you’d be as frazzled as the average person, I just didn’t expect ……”
“You didn’t expect me to cook?”
“Yeah.”
Blanche didn’t deny it, she’d seen him in an apron and thought it was the most amazing thing in the world, let alone the fact that he was cooking in his own kitchen at the moment.
Kent kindly laughed, “So how bad a man do I have to be in your mind?”
“You’re not bad, you’re just …… a little more casual.”
Kent’s movements gave a beat, and for some reason he suddenly remembered his own childhood, “I grew up on my own, without a home of my own, and had to be a scum in this society, plus without money, and the only way to save the most money was to cook for myself.”
One person can’t eat much, basically you can cook one meal and eat all day.
Blanche looked at his look and suddenly her hands and feet went cold and her whole body stalled there immediately after ……
“Are you …… an orphan?”
She had never asked him about his family background, or his family, but she hadn’t expected ……
Kent hesitated for a moment and shook his head, “No, I have a sister.”
“Then how come you haven’t seen her?”
“Not yet, I have to be strong, strong enough to be her shield, to protect her before I can appear in front of her and make her proud of me.”
Kent’s ugly face seemed to soften a little at the mention of Elena Bush.
He didn’t know why he was saying this, only that he suddenly just wanted to say it.
Blanche looked at him, averted her eyes a little uncomfortably and then said softly, “So you go to the orphanage a lot and are so nice to it because of your childhood?”
It was because I felt that my life resonated with those children that I cared, that I took it to heart, and that I was so kind to them.
“Who knows about that?” Kent tugged at the corner of his mouth, “Maybe, and maybe not.”
Blanche’s eyes flickered, not looking at him, not knowing exactly what he looked like at the moment and what kind of expression he was using to say it all out loud.
Kent quickly stuffed all the glutinous rice and ingredients into the chicken’s belly and sewed the whole thing up and dropped it straight into the pot with water to simmer.
“Maybe it’s because people have done so many wrong things in their lives that they want to do something to make up for some of the mistakes they made in the previous half of their lives.”
His words came slowly to his ears, and Blanche could not help but remember what he had said earlier, and hesitated a moment to say unsteadily, “Sir Lewis, may I ask what you were doing before?”
“A scum.” Kent turned to look at her just as he covered the pot and smiled at her, “Why, don’t you look like one?”
“No.” She nodded and shook her head, finally saying weakly, “Not like, someone like you, I thought ……”
He had a good family background and someone to back him up, so he set up his schemes and what he did in the mall was surprisingly bold, either winning or losing completely, and he didn’t know whether it was luck or otherwise, but he got his bets right every time, so in just under a year he immediately grew his real estate business and got himself on his feet quickly.
Kent wiped his hands, his face unruffled, “But you wouldn’t believe it for sure, after all I always do things that don’t make sense.”
Suddenly Blanche didn’t know what to say, her heart was in a panic, as if she was a child who had accidentally spied on an adult’s secret.
As if reading her mood, Kent hooked his lips and said, “Just wait outside, I promise you won’t be disappointed later.”
“Yeah.”
She nodded hastily, then in the blink of an eye she was sitting back in the living room, only to be reassured when she finally went to her room and opened the papers and materials she had prepared for the coming week.
Kent’s cooking did not disappoint Blanche after all, she could not have imagined that his cooking was so good that she almost ate her chopsticks, every dish was full of flavour and aroma and she could not get enough of it.
As she savoured the food, she couldn’t help but steal a glance at Kent as he untied his apron and then picked up his chopsticks and tapped her hand that was trying to move them again, “Eat your soup first to warm up your stomach.”
“Oh.” She answered reluctantly.
Kent quickly gave her a large bowl of soup, even a whole chicken, and placed it on a plate in front of her.
Seeing his hands continue to move, she immediately reached out and snapped at his movements gritting her teeth, “Sir Lewis, are you raising me like a pig?”
A whole chicken …… and rice, how could she eat it all?
“Just eat it first and give me what you can’t finish.” The latter saw right through her mind and the words that came out were easy and comfortable.
Blanche, on the other hand, had long ago blackened her face again, she finished eating and gave it to him, which ……
“Sir Lewis ……” her scalp tingled and she looked embarrassed.
“You woman, why can’t you finish so little?” Kent finally sighed helplessly, then went straight to work and tore a whole chicken in half, the chicken stew was so cooked that it tore apart easily with a single tear, making it drooling to look at ……
