Kent noticed something, that Blanche was a woman who always liked to push his boundaries without even thinking about it, time and time again, like now!
Blanche listened to the grim voice of the man on the other end of the phone and there was a moment of silence before she finally just had to say honestly, “In a taxi.”
“Pop!”
The phone clicked off immediately and Kent turned to look at Abbie behind him.
Abbie looked at him in the same way, almost with a general pleading, “Kent, can we not talk to her anymore, this party is so important, what if you leave out the people who will help you in the future?”
“It’s my business.” Kent said in a deep voice, not moving to put his phone back.
A bad feeling immediately rose in Abbie’s heart, and sure enough, the next second, he spoke again, “I’ll be going back today, so keep playing if you still want to.”
With that, the man had already turned around and made a move to leave.
Abbie’s heart thumped hard and sank instantly.
“Wait!” She chased after him with some urgency, “What about me? I don’t have anywhere to …… stay tonight.”
“Find yourself a hotel!”
Without the slightest hint of pity, the man took a big step and left the venue without a sound.
Abbie looked at the fading back, the bottom of her eyes slowly rose with pain and hate, and shame, her heart was even more mixed ……
Blanche finally got away from the noise of the venue and Abbie’s tit-for-tat and went back to her room to quickly change out of her wretched uniform that smelled of red wine.
The doorbell rang before Blanche had a chance to dry her hair, and she wondered.
Who could it be at this time of night?
As if she had been too slow to open the door, the person outside had been impatient to knock again sharply.
The door opened and Blanche said with a look of impatience, “Come, come, knock again, it’s going to break!”
Coldly, her whole body had slammed directly into a wall of flesh, the man’s chest hard as stone, suddenly rushing in and hitting her dizzyingly.
“Who ……”
Unease drove her to lift her head immediately, only to crash into a hostile pair of eyes the next second .
“Kent!?” Blanche rubbed her eyes incredulously, almost thinking she was mistaken, “You’re not at the venue? How did you get here!”
“Noisy!”
Kent grunted coldly and sauntered in.
The sudden approach of her body made her subconsciously back up, not wanting to, but as if the man was deliberately working against her, his toes moved forward against her backward steps until he finally forced her against the wall, unable to retreat!
“You ……”
Blanche opened her mouth and found herself blushing again without argument, the man’s body pressed against the top of her head as if he was about to kiss it down in the next second.
“Don’t say a word!” Kent gave her a cross look, immediately blocking out the words she was about to speak.
The little woman nuzzled her mouth and lowered her eyes to silence.
Kent lifted his hand and pressed it directly to her forehead, his sudden breath rushing in and out of her.
The man’s body moved closer as if on purpose, and the scent of her was on his nostrils.
It seemed that she had just had a bath, her body was red from the heat, like a freshly cooked shrimp, and the smell of the shower gel was something like mint, fresh and pleasant.
Blanche could barely cope with his sudden demeanour and her legs went slightly weak, finally resisting the urge to squeeze her palms to bring herself back to her senses quickly and not think about it.
“Sir Lewis …… you are visiting late at night, is there something wrong?”
She remembered the time of the party, it shouldn’t be over at this hour either.
Kent frowned and muttered as if he hadn’t heard her question, “No fever?”
His voice was low, but Blanche heard him loud and clear, and she froze as she raised her eyes dully to meet the man’s face.
Was this …… him caring for himself?
“Talk!” Kent patted her dumbfounded face, “Dumb?”
“No ……”
She quickly looked away and pushed him away, “It’s just a little ailment, bothering Mr Lewis with worry.”
Kent looked at her squirming look in the end and said nothing, a bag of medicine was placed on her desk, “I didn’t know if you had a cold or an upset stomach or something else, so I bought some medicine for each symptom, you can take it yourself.”
Blanche glanced at it and a warmth inexplicably shot through her.
She tugged at the corner of her mouth and deliberately joked, “Mister Lewis, is this an employee benefit?”
“If you think it is, it is.” Kent withdrew his gaze, his tall body just standing there, and after a few seconds of silence added, “Since you’re not feeling well then don’t wash your hair.”
“Hmm.”
She nodded with her eyes downcast, not sure if she was listening or not hearing anything.
Kent stood there, extraordinarily embarrassed, and then froze for a long moment, “But I’ll see that you’re fine so I’ll go back first and remember to take your medication!”
With that last sentence, he left her flat almost as if he had fled.
Blanche remained staring blankly at the medication on the table, not looking back.
She had only just decided to let go of her feelings, but his sudden kindness could easily crush her again ……
The small body collapsed on the bed, and she stared vacantly at the ceiling with an indescribable look of confusion.
The office
Blanche had only just arrived at the office when a figure quickly followed into the lift and she glanced over.
The words “inimical” involuntarily crumbled out of her mind once again.
She could only say a polite hello, “Miss Burne, what a coincidence.”
“It is quite a coincidence.” Abbie looked down at her delicately painted nails in a gesture that didn’t take her seriously.
Blanche didn’t say anything either, just stayed quiet and waited for the lift to arrive, luckily it was during office hours and the lift was already full of people, which helped to ease the awkward atmosphere between them.
On the top floor, they both stepped out of the lift.
Abbie suddenly called out to her, her gaze sinister, “Blanche, don’t think you can be arrogant just because Kent treated you well once, I’m telling you, no matter what, Kent is my man, he belongs to me!”
At that, she gave a reluctant guffaw, “Those words, I suppose would have more credibility if they came from Mr Lewis’ mouth?”
“You!” Abbie gasped, “Are you suggesting that I’m not qualified!?”
Blanche laughed, she hadn’t said that, but what she thought was up to her ……
