Cindy’s POV
Aunt Lorena is really amazing. It has been almost a month since Mom left for the enemy’s turf, but she maintains the barrier. There were no enemy sightings inside the palace territory, which only meant that she was doing a good job. We can’t afford to let them get in using their portal. It will be a disaster since they will just spawn anytime and anywhere they want. We didn’t want that because of every palace member who couldn’t fight, rely on us, and believe in us.
It seems to me that the issue with Mom’s ancestors will never end unless Alder’s family is no longer the one on the throne. I don’t know why they were so clingy when they all knew that Mirasol was not Alder’s grandfather’s fated mate. And it was hard to resist the bond. Even when I still had no idea about it, until Alder started calling me his mate and that we were fated mates, I couldn’t totally get rid of him. Always want to see him and always want him to touch me. That’s why I understand the previous king’s dilemma. Making promises only to break them is shameful. But he had no choice because the mate bond was really strong.
‘Dear, we need to talk.’ I heard that voice again,
‘Mom?’ I asked,
‘Yes, dear. I’m sorry for taking this long. I had to make sure that we were ready and prepared.’ she replied,
‘Where are you?’
‘Around the palace.’
‘I’m at the border.’
‘Which border?’
‘East,’
“Wait there, and I will ask Lance to get you with Aunt Lorena.’ I replied and mind-linked Alder.
‘Yes, my love?’ he asked,
‘Come to our bedroom,’ I said, and he was in front of me instantly.
“Is that it? You’re not naked?” he asked, and I laughed. Is he expecting me to do that crazy thing I did when I marked him every time I asked him to come to our bedroom?
“Tell Lance and Aunt Lorena to get Mom on the eastern border,” I said, and his eyes widened before they dilated.
“What do you think happened to her investigation?” he asked,
“I think it’s good since she assures me that she needs to make sure that we will be able to prepare. Let’s go to your office.” I said,
“Why can’t I say no to you?” he asked, and then we were in his office. It was very convenient to have him. I mean, I can go anywhere with him with just a snap of my fingers, I mean his fingers.
“Because you will be sleeping here in your office if you don’t,” I replied, laughing, and he laughed too. I know how much he loves me, so I can do that for him. I feel like everything is within my grasp because I have him.
After how many minutes, Lanc came with Aunt Lorena and a woman. I don’t exactly remember how my mom looks, but the feeling I have right now is very overwhelming after I see the woman. She had teary eyes and was looking at me lovingly. “Dear,” she said, and that snapped me out of my thinking.
“M-m- mom…” I said in a low and shaky voice. Calling someone “mom” sounds weird to me because I don’t remember saying that ever since.
“Oh, dear Cindy…” she said, and now tears had cut down her face, and so was I when I accepted her embrace. I felt her love, and, oh goddess, I will never ever trade this for anything. We stayed that way until Sheena, Charles, and Mia came in, too. When we decided to let go of each other, we saw how happy everyone was for us. “I can explain, my dear,” she said as soon as we sat down. Alder let me sit beside her, and I am very thankful for his understanding.
“We were already in L. A. when my mom came to me. She was worried about me because I married Dennis. I knew who he was in our family. That’s why I asked him to leave Alaska and start our new life. He knew who I was as well. I didn’t hide it from him. I didn’t want anything to happen to him because of my family and decided to leave him, but he insisted. He never told anyone about me and who I am, but his family later found out, too,” she said.
“You should have come to us; we might be able to help.” Aunt Lorena said,
“I wish it was that easy. Dennis and I talked about this. He was worried about Cindy. What if she asked for me? That’s why we decided to erase her memory. But don’t get me wrong, we only wanted her to live a normal life. So that none of our families will be able to tell that she’s one of us.” she answered, “Back to when my mom found me. You see, she has the power to foresee a glimpse of our future. Her family members, to be exact. She told me to leave Dennis and Cindy. In exchange, she will let me know what kind of future Cindy has. Because I was worried about her, I agreed. I talked to Dennis right after she told me that our daughter would have to die to be born again in another body. She said it was the will of the moon goddess. So, I left and let Dennis handle everything. I know what he asked you to do.” she said, looking at Aunt Lorena.
“So, you knew this even before?” my aunt asked, “You knew that this was going to happen?” she added.
“Not exactly. My mother only told me about Cindy being reborn. But all of these things that happen in the kingdom, I had no idea until I accidentally heard my aunt. Unfortunately, she’s Mirasol. She has been reborn through my aunt.”
“What th–” Charles and Lance exclaimed,
“I couldn’t believe it myself. I accidentally heard it when she was talking to the Lycan rogue. She told him that she was just going to take back what was promised to her.”
“How can you be sure that she has been reborn through your aunt?” Alder asked,
“I can get through everyone’s mind,” she replied,
“You can manipulate-” Aunt said,
“Get through, not manipulate. I can’t tell anyone to do this or that through their minds. But I can read what’s on everyone’s mind. That’s why I managed to get to Cindy and you.” she replied.
“I believe you,” Alder said. I looked at him gratefully. I never thought that he was going to believe her as I did, and I was not expecting them to believe her instantly, but knowing my mate was already on my side, I felt relieved.
“You don’t have to believe it, but what I want you to believe is the fact that Mirasol is coming with her Lycan rogue allies. She’s not going to stop until she becomes queen, and we can’t let that happen since we already know what kind of witch she is. And I didn’t want to put my daughter’s life in danger.” she said, almost in a hurry.
“Tell us what you found out,” Alder said, and she started to tell us about the human trafficking they had been doing and the kidnapping of omegas for slavery. They had amassed their resources through those illegal activities that involved humans. Not just ordinary humans, but all of them were wealthy and underground. I couldn’t believe it at first. I can’t imagine humans being involved since we tried to hide to prevent chaos in the world. But because they were greedy and inhumane, they accepted our kind just like that? We should definitely do something about them. The sooner, the better.
