Jacqueline’s call didn’t come out of the blue, it was within everyone’s expectations.
Logan Brown intercepted Zach Stone’s attempt to press the issue and calmly picked up, “It’s me.”
“Remember me?” Jacqueline spoke in a husky voice, extraordinarily eerie.
The latter hooked his lips, “How could I not remember, I’m afraid I wouldn’t dream of forgetting your existence!”
“Hahahaha ……”
Jacqueline burst out laughing, “Logan Brown ah Logan Brown, you are as tough talking as ever, aren’t you scared even if Elena Bush is in my hands?”
She didn’t believe that Logan Brown would be so calm at all times!
The man’s hand tightened, his veins blazing, and even Jeff and Zach Stone at his side could clearly detect the change in the man’s scent in that moment, cold to the bone!
When he spoke again, his tone was as cold as ever, indistinguishable from joy and sorrow, “Go ahead, what are your terms?”
Jacqueline hated his calm and collected demeanour and gritted her teeth, “If you want to see her, do as I say and don’t do anything rashly, or I promise you’ll see her corpse!”
“And I advise you not to hurt her in any way, or you won’t get away with it either!”
Jacqueline laughed at his tense words, “Logan Brown, do you think I care if I live or die now? Besides, I’m the one who deserves to die, now I’m just looking for a few more people to take the fall, what do I have to fear?”
“It’s easy to die, but it’s not so easy to live.”
The man’s voice was as deep as Satan’s, causing the person on the other end of the line to shiver.
Jacqueline clenched her palms, inexplicably ashamed of her own uselessness, that she could even be subdued by him at this time.
But the fear was only momentary.
When she reacted again, all emotion was withdrawn and she gritted her teeth, “Don’t try to threaten me, Elena Bush will be the one who suffers if you get angry!”
The man flickered darkly.
“Only, don’t be too hasty, at least I’m being nice to him.” Jacqueline defended herself promptly, “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to her for the time being, it’s just that it’s up to you to cooperate.”
“You want to do something, just say so.” Logan Brown wasn’t going to beat around the bush with her, gesturing to Zach Stone as he did so.
Zach Stone wasn’t slow, either, and kept imploring him to stall as long as he could.
The latter nodded and glanced at the child in Jeff’s arms wordlessly taking the baby and sitting down on one side.
Jacqueline, unaware of this side of the action, said bluntly, “It’s simple, I’ll contact you at the highway intersection in the eastern suburbs at eight o’clock this evening.”
“You want to ……”
“Logan Brown, don’t try to stall with me, you won’t find me or know where I am in less than a minute on the phone now!”
The words were followed by the phone being cut off instantly.
Logan Brown nearly smashed his phone to pieces as he listened to the barrage of busy signals!
Zach Stone shrugged helplessly, “Sorry, I didn’t get her current location, but it’s not that hard to find, it’ll just take a while.”
“That won’t be necessary.” The man said in a hushed voice, “She knows our habits, and besides, that last comment made it clear that she’s just calling me now from a random mall with a temporary card, and it’s unknown where she’ll go after that, or if the phone will work again.”
“How do you know it’s at the mall?” Zach Stone frowned.
The man skimmed him and whispered, “Heard the usual pop song playing in the mall.”
“……”
The corner of Zach Stone’s mouth twitched violently, not really knowing whether to admire him or be speechless at this point.
“Pfft ……”
Logan Brown looked down at the little guy in his arms, spitting all over him, and for some reason it felt like the little guy was punishing him.
He was so enthralled that his soft little hands curled up into a ball, but they landed on the button on his chest, and inexplicably, his heart softened along with it.
Zach Stone looked on with sudden interest and came over to Jeff and said, “Are all kids this good? I’ve heard my mum say I’ve never had any peace since I was born.”
Jeff shook his head seriously, “You’re you, that’s Logan Brown’s kid, how can it be the same?”
“How?”
Zach Stone remained curious and Jeff couldn’t help but say, “The kid either took after Logan Brown’s cold nature or, Elena Bush’s light nature.”
Only, whichever it was, we’d have to grow up to find out, and for now, let’s just say that he was good, not abrasive or tormented, which was a really rare child, and more importantly, he wasn’t afraid of strangers.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk.”
Zach Stone shook his head repeatedly, “I’ll have to pray that the baby doesn’t look too much like these two, or what will happen to the baby in Sophia’s belly?”
Even if he was the baby’s godfather, he wasn’t interested in giving his baby to a kid who looked like Logan Brown’s iceberg!
Jeff seemed to have figured out what he was thinking and said, “You’re not even close to being married yet.”
Zach Stone laughed sarcastically, “I’m just a bit worried.”
“That’s too ……”
“Later!” Zach Stone suddenly felt for his pocket, his heart blossomed when he saw the caller ID, patted him on the shoulder and said, “Watch here, I’ll call my daughter-in-law first!”
With that, he slipped into the bedroom and locked the door behind him, afraid that someone might hear him.
Jeff shook his head helplessly, then went up and sat down beside Logan Brown, “What are you going to do now?”
“I’ll go out for the night and go to the place she said, you watch the kids for now.”
“No, you’re crazy!” Jeff held him down, “Jacqueline is clearly setting you up now, aren’t you just waiting to die by giving yourself away?”
“So what do you want me to do?” The man was surprisingly calm, and the words he spat out were not the least bit warm.
Jeff subconsciously looked over, only to see the man speak again with an iron face, “If I don’t go, Elena will die, if I do, maybe I won’t be okay, I can gamble on anything, but her life won’t be used as a joke without permission!”
“And what about you?” He asked in return, his words sharp, “Her life is not a joke, is yours?”
The two men stared at each other, not giving in to each other, and Jeff gritted his teeth, “Logan Brown, I’m only worried about you because I consider you a friend, and I don’t want you to mess up again because of her! Think about it, maybe …… there’s something else we can do ……”
