She looked at Tyler incredulously, “What are you doing?”
Tyler said, “I know that marrying me took a lot of courage on your part, and I also know that you didn’t marry me out of love, maybe out of gratitude or obligation? But no matter what, I am happy. I may not be wealthy, and I can’t give you a life of luxury, but I am willing to give you all that I have.”
Looking at Luna, he continued, “My father was also a police officer, and he sacrificed himself when I was 12. My mother never remarried and raised me all alone. Unfortunately, she passed away from stomach cancer when I was 24, leaving me this house, the only home I’ve ever known. I want to give this home to you, so I have added your name to the property deed.”
He picked up a yellow card from the box, “This is the savings my parents left me, totaling eighty thousand dollars.” Then, he picked up another card, “This one is my salary card, with two hundred and sixty thousand dollars, as I don’t spend much and save most of my earnings.”
Luna looked at the box, containing simple yet incredibly precious and weighty items, and with a choked voice, she said, “These are too valuable, I…”
“You have married me, we are family now, what’s mine is yours,” Tyler smiled, “I am not good with finances, and I don’t spend much, so it’s all yours to manage.”
Luna still couldn’t accept it, “I can’t…”
“Please, just keep it.”
Tyler placed the box in her hands, “I have to go on duty tonight and won’t be home. Rest early.”
With that, he left.
Luna was still in her red gown, holding all of Tyler’s belongings.
Today was their special day, and tonight would be their bridal chamber candlelit night!
However, knowing she didn’t love him, Tyler made an excuse and left to spare her discomfort and embarrassment.
She sat down, placing the box on the table.
She glanced around at her colleagues, who had decorated the new house with red happiness characters, heart-shaped balloons, filling the room with festivity.
But she couldn’t find joy in it.
She had married him, yet couldn’t love him wholeheartedly.
It was her fault.
Tonight, she slept alone under the large red quilt.
Naturally, her sleep was restless.
In the morning, preparing to tidy up the house, she found the door open.
Tyler walked in with breakfast in hand.
He placed it on the table, “I bought you breakfast. I didn’t know your preferences, so I got a few options. Have a look and see if there’s something you like.”
Luna said, “I’m not picky.”
“Then, sit down,” Tyler removed the balloons from her hand, “I’ll clean up the house. You eat first, as I’m not good at cooking due to living alone, but I’ll learn.”
Luna looked at him, “I can cook.”
“You’re pregnant, you shouldn’t be cooking. Once I learn, I’ll cook for you,” Tyler said, offering a steamed dumpling, “These are delicious from a ten-year-old shop, specially known for their fragrant steamed dumplings.”
Luna took a bite.
It was not greasy, with a strong scallion fragrance.
She smiled, “It’s delicious.”
“If it’s good, have some more. After you finish eating, change and go to work. I’ll rest at home and tidy up the house later.”
Luna watched as he tidied up.
She quietly withdrew her gaze.
She finished an entire basket of dumplings.
This was Tyler’s thoughtfulness.
Even though she was pregnant, she could eat anything.
And everything tasted delicious to her.
“You were out all night. Rest well at home,” Luna stood up, “You haven’t had breakfast yet. I can’t finish all of this, so please eat the leftovers and don’t let it get cold.”
“Alright.”
Tyler came over to sit down.
Luna tidied up and prepared to go to work. As she reached the door, she stopped in her tracks and looked back at Tyler!
