Neo was nervous, quickly squatting down to assess the situation.
Freya knew about the Dean’s illness and immediately took emergency measures.
But when she checked the Dean’s heartbeat, she sensed something was wrong.
Calmly, she looked up at Neo. “Call an ambulance immediately. Actually, it might be too slow. You, carry the Dean out.”
“All right,” Neo trusted Freya completely now.
He followed Freya’s instructions.
Freya helped lift the Dean onto Neo’s back.
Then she ran ahead, instructing Eagle to start the car. Neo placed the Dean inside, and then drove Freya to the hospital.
Neo went along as well.
Thanks to Freya’s quick response, the Dean was promptly brought to the hospital for treatment.
Freya and Neo waited outside the operating room.
“Will the Dean be okay?” Neo asked anxiously.
But Freya’s face remained serious.
Because she knew the Dean’s condition was quite severe.
He might be in serious danger.
“Why isn’t the Dean saying anything?” Neo looked at Freya. “Is the Dean’s condition very critical?”
Freya remained silent, needing to keep a clear head.
She glanced at Neo, instructing him to retrieve their artificial heart device from the institute.
Neo was taken aback. “Is the Dean really that bad? And our heart device is still in the experimental stage, it can’t be used on humans, right?”
“Just as a precaution. I fear the Dean may need it,” Freya thought to herself. The Dean’s fate was uncertain.
“But…”
“Go,” Freya interrupted him.
She had no time to explain.
Time was of the essence.
Neo hesitated.
“Go already,” Freya urged. “I’ll be here.”
After a moment’s delay, Neo finally turned and ran outside.
Freya called after him, “Take my car, let Eagle drive you.”
Taking a taxi would be too slow.
“Okay,” Neo agreed.
Suddenly, the door to the operating room slid open, and a nurse emerged. “Are you the patient’s family?”
Approaching, Freya said, “I am.”
“The patient is in critical condition. The doctor will come and inform you of the situation shortly. Please wait here,” the nurse instructed.
Freya nodded. “Okay.”
About ten minutes later, the operating room door slid open once more. This time, a doctor in green surgical attire, wearing a mask and cap, stepped out. Seeing Freya remove her mask, he asked, “Are you the patient’s family?”
Freya nodded. “Yes.”
“The patient has ventricular tachycardia, with a heart rate exceeding 170 beats per minute, leading to hypotension and a high risk of cardiac arrest. The patient’s condition is critical, and the heart could stop anytime. If you hadn’t brought the patient in early, the situation might have been even worse,” the doctor explained.
Freya was aware of the Dean’s condition.
The doctor’s words did not surprise her.
“Certainly, do you have a treatment plan?” she inquired calmly.
“At present, we don’t have a better treatment…,” the doctor began.
“Could an artificial heart, as a substitute for the natural heart to provide blood, be used to address the patient’s condition?” Freya suggested.
“It could be possible, but the artificial heart is not mature in the country yet, although there have been a few cases abroad,” the doctor noted.
Looking at the doctor, Freya said, “I am from the HY Research Center, and we can provide the device. Would you be able to perform the procedure?”
The doctor shook his head. “Is it a success? Why haven’t I heard of it?”
“It’s in the experimental stage,” Freya admitted honestly.
“Well…” the doctor hesitated. “What do you mean? Using an experimental device on a patient?”
“There’s no other way. It’s our only option,” Freya replied.
The doctor quickly refused, “This is absolutely not possible.”
He waved his hand, “It’s not just against the rules, it’s also unreliable. We physicians cannot play with people’s lives, and I have not conducted this type of surgery before. It’s simply not feasible.”
Just then, a nurse rushed out, “Dr. Culkin, Dr. Chan is calling for you. The patient’s condition is extremely critical.”
As the doctor turned to leave, Freya called out, “Wait, I’ll perform the operation!”
Dr. Culkin turned back, looking at her with incredulity.
