The building in front of her was magnificent, exuding a highly stylish architecture.
As the capital of F country, this was an ancient yet modern city, filled with numerous historical events and romantic spots that enthralled visitors.
However, what lay before her was not a well-known tourist destination.
Instead, it was a grand banquet held by a powerful family.
The guests invited were all high-ranking officials.
Perhaps Elijah had briefed her on the situation already.
The reason Elijah wanted her to accompany him was that Xander had learned of some inside information – this banquet was not merely a simple business gathering for the elite society. Rumor had it that this family was looking to arrange a marriage, as their family business was facing difficulties and they needed to overcome the current challenges through marital alliances.
Those privy to the inside information would naturally not wish to be chosen.
Of course, being chosen was not compulsory, as one could decline.
Yet, doing so would also potentially offend others.
It was best not to be selected.
Freya simply needed to play her role authentically, portraying the role of a good wife.
She affectionately linked arms with Elijah.
Those who arrived were all in possession of invitations; one had to present an invitation at the entrance to gain access, thereby preventing unwelcome gatecrashers from causing chaos.
The surrounding security was tight.
Upon entering, they found the hall filled with numerous attendees.
In the central hall was a gigantic round dining table, hollow in the middle, resembling a large donut. In the center stood a human-shaped sculpture, the kind that depicted a semi-revealed female figure.
Below the sculpture, water spouted out.
The fine water jets created a misty effect, making the statue appear as if it were floating amidst the clouds.
Luxurious crystal chandeliers hung elegantly, emitting dazzling lights.
Near the windows were sofas against the walls.
On the tables were red and white wines.
Exquisite and delicious pastries, fruits, and snacks were elegantly arranged.
Glasses clinked and conversations filled the air.
Groups of women conversed in twos and threes, inevitably discussing gossip, jewels, complimenting fashion labels, and who had recently purchased a new handbag.
They were all dolled up, exuding an air of sophistication and elegance.
Each of them made an effort to look their best, not just for themselves but also to upkeep the appearance of the men in their circles.
The men mostly sat on the sofa discussing economic matters.
Both groups kept to their own social circles.
Elijah and Freya were the only invited guests of Eastern descent present.
In this sea of Western faces, they stood out conspicuously.
As soon as Elijah and Freya entered, they attracted significant attention!
Many amongst the attendees recognized Elijah, and he was quite renowned here.
Two individuals seated on the sofa conversing noticed Elijah and walked over to them.
Elijah gave a slight bow, “These two are associated with me in business affairs.”
Freya nodded in agreement.
“And this lady here?”
The two newcomers were locals and naturally conversed in French.
Elijah fluently introduced, “My wife.”
They seemed surprised that Elijah was already married.
Elijah mentioned they had held a wedding ceremony back home, subtly conveying the information that he was indeed a married man.
They scrutinized Freya from head to toe.
Her hair was casually swept up in a bun, elegantly falling at the back of her head, with wisps of hair gently caressing her cheek, exuding a unique feminine charm.
Her delicate earlobes sparkled with earrings shaped like white feathers and embedded with diamonds, each feather ending in a droplet shape, shimmering under the light reflections.
The necklace around her neck matched her earrings, a feather replica hung on a chain fully studded with diamonds, draping down to her chest just above the revealing neckline of her exquisite black gown.
The dazzling white diamonds, against the backdrop of her pure black dress, juxtaposed and complemented each other, making the black appear less somber as it vied for attention with the white, creating an eye-catching harmony.
The dress was cinched at the waist, made of silky material, flowing elegantly down and accentuating her slender waist with a gentle pinch, subtly revealing a tiny postpartum belly that could only be noticed from the side, yet it did not detract from her beauty; instead, it added a unique allure.
Many women were wafer-thin, devoid of any fat or fleshiness.
She, too, was slim but had a shimmering appearance.
Her skirt brushed her ankles, partially revealing her slender and fair legs, exuding a fragile and delicate beauty.
“Your wife is stunning,” complimented one of the individuals.
Elijah seemed pleased, his aloof demeanor softening slightly.
“Do you have a profession? What do you do?”
Just as Elijah was about to respond on her behalf, she replied in fluent French, “I am a doctor.”
Elijah raised an eyebrow in surprise.
She could speak French?
