She forgot how to react for a moment.
Dumbfounded, staring.
Letting him take what he wanted.
Freya gradually softened, her emotions calming down.
After a while, Elijah finally let her go.
Her lips were so wet, red and tempting.
Like cherries just plucked from water.
She lowered her gaze, “What time do you get off work?”
“Today might be a little late, I have a meeting at six,” he said.
Freya checked the time on her watch, it was already past five, almost six, “I’ll wait for you!”
Elijah said, “Okay.”
She settled into the sofa, grabbing a random book.
Elijah brought over the coffee, sitting beside her, “Regarding image issues, in the future, we’ll find a way to salvage it.”
Freya hated when he brought that up, “Let’s just leave it at that.”
She seemed resigned, “Anyway, my image isn’t good. They’ll just think you have no taste, finding a woman who only talks about love. I’m not a good housewife, to begin with. Let them say what they want.”
Elijah chuckled, “That’s the way to think about it. Other people’s words are their own burden. Have a coffee, calm your nerves.”
Freya was starting to feel better, but Elijah’s words stirred up a hint of anger.
“Go to your meeting, stop hovering around me, you annoy me.”
Elijah kissed her cheek, “Okay, I’ll go, won’t bother you.”
As he got up, Freya grabbed his arm, “Hurry and finish, let’s go back early.”
“Alright,” Elijah replied.
Elijah’s books were all about finance and economics.
She had no interest, feeling drowsy as she tried to read.
She stayed up late last night and woke up early in the morning.
At work, she didn’t take a nap at noon in order to finish her work early.
Now, drowsiness crept up on her.
She put down the book.
Lying on the couch, she wanted to rest a bit.
Unknowingly, she fell asleep.
After the meeting, Elijah returned to the office and saw the woman curled up on the couch, petite and sleeping.
He took off his suit jacket and covered her.
At that moment, the phone on his desk rang.
He stood up to answer it.
Freya woke up drowsily.
Rubbing her eyes, she looked up to see Elijah answering the phone.
Not knowing what was said on the other end, she saw Elijah reply briefly and hang up.
“Is the meeting over?” Freya asked.
Elijah walked over after putting down the phone, “Yeah, did the ringing wake you up?”
Freya shook her head, “No.”
“Let’s go back.”
She got up.
On the way back, Elijah hesitated a few times before speaking.
Freya said, “Just say what you want to say.”
“There’s a banquet in Country F, and I need to bring a female companion. I know you’re busy…”
“When is it?” Freya asked.
“On Friday,” Elijah answered.
Freya checked her phone, it was only Tuesday, after a moment of thought, “Three days away. I’ll arrange my work in advance, should be able to take two days off.”
Elijah held her hand, “Thank you.”
Freya looked at him, smiling lightly, “We agreed not to say thank you between husband and wife, right?”
And she was just doing what a wife should do.
She leaned on his arm, “I’ll do my best to be a good wife and mother in the future.”
Elijah smiled, “You’ve always been a good wife.”
Freya looked up at him, she already knew his character quite well.
When he started like this, there were no good words to follow.
She asked, “So, what do you really want to say?”
