Orion was becoming confused.
“What’s the matter, have I offended you?” Orion stood tall with Freya by his side, but there was no sign of his usual intimidation.
Elijah felt the urge to kick him out.
“From now on, deal with your own mess. Why involve her? She’s a delicate woman, what can she do? If I hadn’t coincidentally returned home today and met her, she would have come alone, who knows what could have happened. Do you not think before you act? What’s been mucking about in your head?” Elijah’s voice was stern.
Orion hurried to explain, “It wasn’t me, they stole my phone and used it.”
Elijah didn’t believe him, “With so many contacts in your phone, why did you specifically call her?”
Orion lowered his head, unable to meet Elijah’s gaze.
Elijah pressed on, “Speak up!”
“I did want to call Freya. I found her number, but before I could contact her, I put my phone in my pocket. They took it, unlocked the screen, and there was Freya’s number.” Orion wanted to inquire about Luna’s situation but forced himself to forget, resisting the urge to call.
He quickly apologized, “I know it’s my fault this time. I promise it won’t happen again.”
Elijah couldn’t keep grilling him, “If this happens again, we can’t be friends anymore.”
With that, Elijah took Freya and left Orion behind.
Orion shamelessly followed, sitting in the back seat and pleading, “Do you have to be so heartless? I’ve admitted my mistake and apologized, after all these years of relationship, are you willing to give it up just like that?”
Elijah’s eyes twitched, “What relationship?”
“Brotherly love, brotherly love,” Orion quickly corrected himself.
Even so, Elijah didn’t forgive him right away.
“You’ve been taught numerous times, yet you’re still so reckless?” Elijah reprimanded.
Orion rubbed his forehead, “I drank too much.”
He hadn’t completely sobered up from the night before and had a few drinks today.
It explained his behavior.
The car continued steadily on its way.
After a long silence, Elijah spoke, “He stirred trouble, and you followed suit?”
Freya, taken aback, wondered if he was talking to her.
“Are you referring to me?” Freya pointed at herself.
Elijah kept his eyes forward, “Those guys clearly thrive on conflict, hold grudges, and seek revenge. Needing money in his presence wasn’t wise. I signaled to you to stay quiet, I could have handled it. Why rush in like that?”
Freya stayed silent, not daring to argue.
Indeed, she had been rash.
“You weren’t impulsive before, what’s gotten into you today?” Elijah glanced at her.
Leaning back, Freya said, “Maybe it was the alcohol.”
“You drank?” Elijah’s voice rose.
Freya explained, “I had a drink at Mr Donaldson’s farewell party.”
Orion leaned in, gossiping with Freya, “Does he always keep such a close eye on you?”
“Shut up!” Elijah snapped.
Orion rubbed his nose.
Later, the car came to a halt.
Elijah and Freya got out.
Orion followed.
Standing beside Elijah, Freya said, “I’ll be more careful next time, I didn’t think it through this time.”
Elijah wasn’t scolding her, he just didn’t want her to get caught up in someone else’s mess and end up in trouble. He couldn’t bear to see her hurt again.
He held her hand tightly, “I’ll have Evan secretly watch over you.”
Freya softly responded.
Inside the house, Freya saw someone in the living room and instinctively turned to look back.
