Freya tightened her grip on the steering wheel.
With a soft response, “Hmm.”
Her voice was very faint, but Elijah heard it clearly.
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
When they returned home and went to bed, Elijah held her in his arms.
Her body was tense.
Elijah felt like he was holding a warm stone.
She felt uneasy, so he deliberately spoke to distract her, shifting her attention. “Freya, do you know how I dealt with the vice dean’s family?”
“How did you handle it?”
“He only has one son, and both him and his wife value their only child very much. I made his child lose his job. The company where he worked accused him of leaking company secrets, and he now faces compensation and lawsuits. I let it appear as if he disappeared, saying that it was my doing. Today, the vice dean’s wife came to me on her own initiative, begging me to spare her son. I told her that if she ever dares to harm you again, I will make sure her son has nowhere to rest in peace. She was so scared that she said she would never do it again.”
Freya turned to look at him.
They remained silent for a long time.
“Did I do something wrong?” Elijah asked.
Freya shook her head, “No.”
“Hmm?” Elijah was puzzled.
Freya leaned her arm against his waist and pressed her face against his chest.
She thought of Jack and the words they spoke today.
Elijah had such a personality, which was related to the environment he grew up in.
“Elijah, I will love you very much.”
She would warm him and give him a true family.
Elijah was surprised by her unexpected confession.
“What’s wrong with you?” he lowered his gaze.
“It’s nothing.”
Elijah held her tighter, “I will love you very much too.”
…
On the day Wesley Donaldson retired, the hospital organized a retirement party for him. Donaldson didn’t want to make a big deal out of it but the hospital staff did it spontaneously. He could only accept it.
Nobody told Freya at the hospital. They deliberately kept it from her.
Before the end of the workday, the hospital was empty, with only Neo Miller remaining.
It was unclear how Donaldson convinced him. Although reluctant, Neo Miller finally agree to be Freya’s assistant. Wherever Freya went, he followed.
Freya asked, “Is there something going on today? They usually don’t leave before the end of the workday. Why are they leaving early today?”
“Is this work-related? Can I not answer you?” Neo Miller countered.
Freya glanced at him, “You can choose not to answer.”
Neo Miller checked the time, “There are still ten minutes until the end of the workday.”
“You’re my assistant, so you leave when I leave.” She looked at Neo Miller and emphasized, “This is work-related.”
Neo Miller was anxious, “No, today is Mr Donaldson’s farewell party, and everyone has gone. It’s not good for me not to go…”
Suddenly, he stopped and covered his mouth. He realized he had said the wrong thing.
Freya raised an eyebrow, “Oh, so it’s Mr Donaldson’s farewell party.”
Neo Miller pouted, “Everyone warned me not to tell you.”
Freya said, “You didn’t tell me. I heard it myself. So, where is it?”
Neo Miller shook his head, refusing to say. He couldn’t make another mistake.
Freya, with great patience, said, “If you don’t tell me, I’ll find out myself. But if I find out on my own, I won’t keep it a secret. I will tell everyone that you’re the one who told me about the farewell party today, and I will also tell everyone that you’re the one who told me the address.”
“It wasn’t me,” Neo Miller desperately refuted.
“Do you think they will believe your explanation?” Freya patted his shoulder. “I’ll call Mr Donaldson and find out the address immediately. Your stubbornness is useless to me.”
Saying that, she took out her phone.
“Fine, it’s at Rose Garden.” Neo Miller couldn’t escape Freya’s calculations.
Freya was satisfied. Setting aside her task at hand, she said, “Let’s go.”
They arrived at the venue and asked the waiter. However, Donaldson and the others were not there.
Freya looked sharply at Neo Miller, “Did you lie to me?”
Just then, someone appeared.
