Elijah replied, “Okay.”
“Have you seen the complete video?” she mustered up the courage to ask.
All along, she didn’t dare to ask this question.
“… Hmm.”
“Am I… am I really…”
“No.” Elijah assured her, “He just wanted to provoke me, he didn’t do anything to you.”
The video wasn’t complete.
He also didn’t know how far Ronan had gone.
He assured Freya in this way.
He just wanted her to let go of this matter.
“Really?”
Freya asked, full of anticipation.
With a confident tone, Elijah replied, “Really.”
She lowered her head, her shoulders slightly trembling.
She didn’t want to cry.
But her nose stung with bitterness.
In fact, after that incident, deep down in her heart, she felt a trace of inferiority when facing her relationship with Elijah. She always felt that her body was dirty.
With his affirmative answer, she felt much better in her heart.
She cried and laughed, “Thank you.”
Regardless of whether Elijah said it to comfort himself or not, in this moment, her heart truly felt at ease.
She sniffed, “These weak eyes.”
Elijah ran his hand through her hair, “If you want to cry, just cry. There’s no need to pretend in front of me.”
Freya wiped her face, “I’m going to cry.”
She stubbornly looked upwards, strong, proud, brave, invincible.
Elijah’s gaze deepened. This woman, in front of him, wouldn’t even show a hint of vulnerability?
He embraced her, “Let’s go home.”
Freya said, “Okay.”
Elijah held her shoulder and they walked out of the private room.
In the corridor, a couple leaned against the wall, passionately kissing.
Freya averted her gaze. Her face was slightly flushed.
Elijah lowered his eyes and looked at her embarrassed and blushing cheeks. A faint smile appeared on his lips.
She was still so innocent.
Leaving the club, they got into the car, with Freya driving.
When she started the car, she suddenly noticed something and turned to look at Elijah, “You’re not drunk?”
Freya understood, “You lied to me.”
She complained, “Deceiver. I won’t believe you anymore.”
“If you don’t trust me, then who will you trust?”
Elijah grabbed her shoulder, making her face him, “Actually, I really am drunk.”
As he spoke, he leaned in.
Freya watched as his lips approached, trying hard to overcome the obstacles in her heart, and didn’t avoid it.
His warm lips lightly touched her soft lips, without lingering too long, and then he moved away.
Elijah wasn’t greedy, knowing that bringing Freya back to how they used to be would require a gradual process.
Freya rolled down the car window.
Fresh air rushed into the car, and she became fully awake. Starting the engine, she drove away.
Suddenly, she remembered the incident at the research center today and asked, “Are you still angry?”
“What?”
“I mean, I didn’t let you handle Neo Miller’s matter.” Freya said.
Elijah leaned back, “Yes.”
Freya explained to him, “The nature of my work is different from yours. You are a manager, and those people need to work hard for you. It’s okay for you to be strict and severe. But my work emphasizes teamwork. We need unity and cooperation. Sometimes an experiment requires two or three people to work together simultaneously. I can’t have people in the institute not being on the same page as me, otherwise, my work will be very difficult in the future. Do you understand?”
Elijah hadn’t considered all of this.
Now, after listening to Freya’s words, he understood that his work and Freya’s work were indeed different.
“I understand now.”
“So, are you still angry?”
Elijah glanced sideways, “I can stop being angry, but… can you promise me one thing?”
“Tell me.”
Elijah pondered for a moment, “Sleep in bed from now on.”
