The voice sounded familiar to Freya, as if she had heard it just yesterday.
She turned around.
And there stood Deck behind her.
Instinctively, she took a step back and asked cautiously, “What do you want?”
“I came to find you for something,” Deck said, and then quickly added, “Jack doesn’t know I’m here. He’s very sick now and couldn’t instruct me about anything. I came to see you on my own initiative.”
Freya directly refused, “We have nothing to talk about.”
She walked towards the courtyard.
Deck hurried to catch up and stood in front of Freya. “Jack may have made many wrong decisions, but sending you to the young master was definitely the right thing to do.”
Freya knew that Deck was playing the emotional card in front of her. But she hadn’t forgotten the things Jack had done before. He had been both good and bad to her.
Freya could let go of the past and not hold grudges.
But she couldn’t overlook what the old master had done to Elijah.
Jack hadn’t treated Elijah fairly in this matter. He had hurt Elijah first.
There was no way she would meet him behind Elijah’s back.
Now, all she could do was to avoid any contact with Jack and live their own lives separately.
“I beg you, I know you’re an excellent and authoritative doctor. Maybe you can find a way to save Jack…” Deck pleaded.
“He has brain cancer, and my specialty is in cardiology. I’m afraid I can’t help,” she replied, turning her head away and walking away quickly.
Deck stood there helplessly. He turned around, feeling dejected.
Jack lay on the hospital bed.
His body now relied on medication.
And it was an imported medicine that cost a million dollars per shot. Jack needed one shot per month.
For Jack, this money was nothing. The Silverton family was wealthy.
Losing the company didn’t affect his lifestyle.
“She’s not willing to come?” Jack asked.
Deck didn’t dare to answer directly, fearing that it would upset him. So, he found fault with the nurse, pointing at her, “What’s wrong with you? Can’t you take care of people? Can’t you see that the old master’s lips are dry and peeling? Don’t you know how to get him a glass of water?”
The nurse hurriedly went to fetch water.
Deck said, “You can leave. We don’t need you for now.”
He personally poured a glass of water and fed it to Jack.
“Answer my question,” Jack refused to drink the water.
Deck sighed, “I feel like, after spending so much time with the Master Elijah, Madam’s personality has become more like his.”
This implied message was telling Jack that Freya’s attitude was similar to Elijah’s.
“Alright, I will go see her in person.”
“But your health isn’t up to it,” Deck persuaded, “I can make a few more trips.”
Jack shook his head, “It won’t work.”
He knew Elijah’s temperament.
He could only approach Freya.
There was still a chance to convince her.
“I’ll call the doctor to come and examine you. If they allow you to go out, I’ll prepare a wheelchair,” Deck said.
Jack nodded slightly.
…
Luna found a job as a clerk.
Orion didn’t come looking for her anymore. After work, she planned to find Zane and have him take the couple back.
Since Orion was no longer bothering her, there was no need to hide or avoid anymore.
After all, there were many days ahead of her.
When she was ready to leave, the doorbell rang.
She tensed up, wondering if it was Orion, not giving up yet?
This time, she wasn’t completely resistant.
There was even a tiny bit of anticipation.
She walked over to open the door.
Before she could see who it was, she was swept off her feet and onto the ground!
