Adam had never been slapped before in his life. His right cheek was stinging.
Freya asked coldly, “Does it hurt?”
“It’s not about whether it hurts or not. As a grown man, I can handle a little pain from being slapped. But, a man’s face represents his dignity. How could you… especially in a public place like this?”
His face turned red because Freya’s slap was particularly loud, and that attracted the attention of many onlookers.
“In this place, don’t you see that everyone is looking at me?”
Freya stood up, “If you’re not being used but instead an accomplice, then what you just received wasn’t a slap, it was a knife.”
Adam’s expression suddenly turned pale. At this moment, he seemed to finally realize the seriousness of the situation.
“What did Ronan do?” asked he.
Freya ignored him and walked away. Adam caught up to her and reached out to grab her, “Tell me…”
Freya forcefully shook him off, “Let go of me!”
Her almond-shaped eyes widened, as if she could spew fire. This was the first time she had exploded since the incident happened. But soon, she suppressed her emotions again. Her voice was cold, devoid of any warmth, “From now on, you are not allowed to appear in front of me.”
Adam stood dumbfounded in place, just incredulously staring at her. In his memory, Freya was still that little girl next door. Because her father had an affair, her life at home wasn’t good. She was always cautious and mature for her young age. He had never seen her lose her temper before.
What did Ronan do?
What did he do to make her like this?
Adam took out his phone and called Ronan. But the call didn’t go through. He put his phone back in his pocket. Unable to reach Ronan, he had to ask Freya. Just as he was about to approach her, he saw a car pull over by the roadside. Elijah stepped out of the car. Elijah wasn’t too friendly towards him, so he had to stop in his tracks.
Freya stood on the steps, looking at the man standing by the car. A hint of pain flashed through her eyes, but she quickly composed herself and walked down the steps towards him. Their gazes met. Elijah seemed more nervous than her. He opened the car door and said, “Get in.”
Freya bent down and got in. Elijah got in the driver’s seat and leaned over to fasten her seat-belt. Freya didn’t move, she just lowered her eyelashes slightly. Soon, the car drove off, smoothly traveling on the road. Neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere inside the car was very quiet. Both were pretending like nothing happened. But both were not feeling calm at all. Freya wanted to say something to him but she didn’t know how to start. She turned her head slightly, her eyes downcast and moist, her voice hoarse.
“You know now, right?”
Elijah didn’t respond. His expression disguised any trace of understanding as if he truly didn’t know what she was talking about. Freya knew in her heart- Elijah knew everything.
“I don’t know how to face you.” She closed her eyes, “I was completely unaware, I didn’t know if… if…”
After she woke up, her body felt normal. She was well aware of the changes in her body after being with Elijah for so long. She didn’t feel that kind of sensation in her body. But her clothes were taken off. Even if nothing had happened, she didn’t dare to imagine what Ronan did to her during the time she was unconscious.
“I’ve already agreed with the dean, and I’ve completed the formalities for the job.”
She was glad she didn’t turn down this job. At least she had something to rely on.
“If you want to go to work, then go.”
At this moment, the car stopped at their residence. Elijah got out of the car.
Freya called out to him, “Elijah.”
