Ronan struggled to curl his lips, “How about… you give Freya to me…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Elijah threw him into the water tank. Water splashed everywhere. Ronan knew how to swim, but swimming required energy, and he had been tossed around so much that he had lost all his strength. He held on with all his might. Thrown into the water, he failed to struggle, sinking straight down.
When Elijah got out of the water, he saw Evan and said, “Don’t fish him out.”
Evan lowered his head, “Yes, sir.”
Once Elijah had walked away, Evan signaled to his subordinates to secretly retrieve Ronan. If things really got out of hand and Ronan died, it wouldn’t be impossible to cover it up. But what if the video really got leaked? What would happen to Freya? He understood Elijah well, knew he wasn’t an impulsive person. This time, Elijah was just too angry and lost his composure.
Elijah drove away. Evan followed. This incident was too sudden, too hard to accept. He was afraid Elijah might do something impulsive again, so he had to follow. He made a phone call, instructing his subordinates to lock up Ronan and saying, “Don’t let him die.”
At least they had to get the video and photos from him. After that, he followed Elijah’s car closely.
Elijah’s car suddenly stopped by the roadside. After a while, he still didn’t drive away. Only then did Evan push open the car door and walk over. Elijah sat in the car in silence. Evan didn’t know what he could say to comfort him. At this moment, any words would probably be powerless. Even though the situation hadn’t happened to him personally, Evan could understand that kind of oppression. Perhaps at this moment, what Elijah needed wasn’t silence.
Evan cautiously suggested, “How about the two of us go have a drink?”
Maybe getting drunk would sober them up and they could handle this matter calmly.
Elijah glanced at him for two seconds, his gaze indifferent. He didn’t say a word, just restarted the car and drove off.
Evan stood there, unable to snap out of it for a moment, unsure of what his boss meant. But as far as this matter was concerned, there was only so much he could do. Perhaps Elijah needed time now.
…
Instead of returning home, Elijah went back to the company after driving away. He finished watching the unfinished video. The video ended at the point where he closed the computer. All the expected events seemed to have happened in the video, but nothing was clear. His mind was in chaos, and he truly needed some time to calm down. After a long while, his emotions finally settled. Only then did he dial Freya’s number. It took a while for her to answer the call.
“Are you at home?” asked Elijah, seeming unfazed.
“… No.”
At this moment, Freya was sitting in the car.
“Where did you go?” Elijah instantly felt a bit panicked. He stood up, “Where are you? I’ll come find you.”
Freya told him the address of the place she was going. Elijah got up from his office chair, “I’ll be there soon.”
Freya murmured an “Mhm.” torpidly.
Soon, the car stopped, and Freya got out. She asked the driver to wait for her at the entrance while she walked into the cafe alone. She randomly found a seat and sat down. When the waiter came to ask her what she wanted, she just ordered a glass of water. Her gaze unfocused, she looked out the window, at the busy street, with cars coming and going, the constant flow of traffic, but her eyes showed no hint of movement. Those eyes were so dull; there was no ripples in them at all. Now she looked like a beautiful doll without a soul, lacking vitality.
“There was heavy traffic on the road, so I’m a little late.” Adam sat down across from her. “Sorry for keeping you waiting.”
Freya slowly turned her head, her gaze falling on him. Adam hadn’t noticed that something was off with Freya and continued speaking to himself, “Have you resolved the misunderstanding with Ronan?”
Freya stared at him, her hand clenched into a fist under the table, her slender and fair fingers turning white at the knuckles. In the next second, she raised her hand and slapped him across the face!
The sound was loud and crisp. Adam was instantly dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe it, simmering with anger. No one would have a good temper after being slapped.
“What do you mean by this?”
