“No matter what his purpose is, we need to have a paternity test done. We can’t let any opportunity slip by.” Elijah composed himself and held Freya tight. “Let’s go.”
They got into the car, and as Freya fastened her seat-belt, she said to Elijah, “I want to personally do this paternity test.”
She didn’t trust anyone else to do it and didn’t want any mistakes.
Elijah nodded, “Okay.”
Freya felt both hopeful and nervous.
Elijah held her hand, “Don’t overthink it.”
Freya tilted her head and leaned against the car window, “Are you trying to say, don’t get my hopes up too high?”
Elijah did think that way. Freya understood his meaning as well. She nodded, putting on a relaxed facade, “I understand.”

Elijah dropped Freya off at her place. “Get some rest.”
Freya nodded, getting out of the car. She walked straight towards the house. Elijah watched her enter before driving away.
As Freya changed her shoes at the doorstep, her phone vibrated. She took out her phone and answered the call. A voice filled with playfulness came from the other end, “Interested in meeting up?”
The voice sounded familiar. Freya moved the phone away and looked at the caller ID. It was Ronan.
Freya hesitated for a moment before replying, “Not interested.”
“Really? You’re not interested in my child either?” Ronan continued.
Freya remained silent for a moment, pretending to be calm, “Why would I be interested in your child?”
“Alright, since you’re not, I must have been delusional.” Ronan said before hanging up.
Freya held onto her phone. If she met Ronan, perhaps she could quickly find out if the child he was holding was hers. After considering it carefully, she dialed Ronan’s number back.
Ronan picked up the phone quickly, as if he expected her to call, and laughed, “Have you figured it out?”
“Tell me, where should we meet?” she said in a cold tone.
“I’m staying at Royal Garden Plaza Hotel, room 8808. I’ll be waiting for you.” He replied.
Freya didn’t respond and simply hung up.
“Mama.” Kai walked over and hugged her leg, looking up at her. “Where’s Daddy?”
Freya reached out and touched his little cheek, smiling as she said, “Daddy will be back later.” She bent down and picked up Kai, heading towards the living room.
“I want to go out and play.” Since falling ill, the little boy had hardly left the house. His already pale face turned even whiter. He had been cooped up in the house for too long.
Freya coaxed him, “It’s cloudy today, but how about I take you to the park when the sun comes out tomorrow? How does that sound?”
Kai remained silent. His little mouth pouted. Now that he had regained some energy, he started to throw tantrums. Freya kissed his soft and cute little face.
“How about I take you out tonight instead?” she suggested.
Kai happily grinned, showing his little teeth.
Elowen approached, holding some fruits for Kai to eat. “You spoil him too much. He’s not fully recovered yet.”
Freya lifted Kai’s clothes and checked his condition. The bumps on his body had disappeared, leaving only slight marks that would fade completely in a while.
“It’s not good for him to stay indoors all the time. He needs some sunlight,” she said.
Elowen chimed in, “We’ve got some sun, haven’t we? I often take him to play on the balcony.”
There were two large balconies in the house that received sunlight from morning till afternoon.
Freya said, “Even though Kai is better now, he can’t just stay at home all the time. In another couple of years, he’ll be able to go to kindergarten.”
Elowen laughed, “It’s up to you, but someone has to accompany him.”
After this incident, Elowen had become more cautious.
Freya nodded. She played with her son, and when Kai got tired and fell asleep, Freya left the house. Later, she arrived at the address Ronan had given her and raised her hand to knock on the door.
The door opened quickly.
