Chapter 427 Should I be Gentler?

Elijah hadn’t even had a chance to respond when Sacha spoke up, “He’s not my biological brother, I was adopted, not my mother’s biological daughter. So, you don’t have to worry about him, we want to be together, so let us be.”
Evan wanted to explain, he knew Sacha was Joan Nash’s adopted daughter, so there wasn’t really any relation between her and Elijah. It was just this tiny connection through Joan Nash. But even so, he felt the need to make it clear. After all, Joan was Elijah’s mother. But before he could say anything, Elijah spoke first, “Your love life has nothing to do with me.”
Just like Sacha said, she was only Joan Nash’s adopted daughter. What did she have to do with him?!
Elijah grabbed Freya’s hand and said to Evan, “Now that you’re better, we should go back.”
“I’ll report to the company tomorrow.” Evan said.
Elijah heard it but didn’t respond, walking out with Freya.
Freya asked, “Are you busy today?”
Elijah asked, “Is there something?”
“Well, kind of,” Freya said, “I was able to develop the medication this time with the help of Maddox Greyson, so I want to treat everyone who helped out to a meal. If you’re free, you can join too.”
“I have time, let me handle the arrangement.” Elijah said.
If Elijah took care of it, it would probably be better than if she did it. She had no experience in this area. Elijah was used to socializing and knew how to handle things appropriately.
“How many people are we inviting?” Elijah asked.
“About ten,” Freya replied.
“Okay.”
Knowing the number of people to invite, Elijah could make arrangements more easily.
“I’ll take you back to rest,” Elijah said, knowing that she had been exhausted during this period. Now that things were resolved, she could take a break.
But Freya said, “I want to go to the mall. Kai’s clothes are getting too small for him, I want to buy him some new ones. Now is a good time.”
“I’ll accompany you.”
As they spoke, the car headed towards the direction of the mall.
Freya looked at him, “Aren’t you busy?”
“I do have some things to take care of, but they can wait. I still have time to accompany you to the mall.” Elijah turned to look at her, “Don’t you want me to come with you?”
Freya fell silent for a moment, not saying anything. It was as good as agreeing.
Elijah brought her to the city center, the bustling shopping street. Here, all the luxury stores from around the world were gathered. Freya had never been shopping in a place like this. She herself didn’t like wearing jewelry, which was related to her profession as well. It was inconvenient for her to wear too much jewelry. At most, she would wear a watch, just to tell the time.
Elijah parked the car and walked over, holding her hand. “I see the shelves are empty, why don’t you get some new ones?”
Freya teased, “You pay, I have no money.”
Elijah turned to look at her, unable to help but laugh. “What’s mine is yours, isn’t it?”
Probably all women liked to hear sweet words. Freya was no exception. She took the initiative to hook her arm around Elijah’s and jokingly said, “Promise me.”
“What do you want me to promise?” Elijah asked, pretending to be serious.
Freya pulled her arm away and pushed him aside. “Stay away from me.”
Elijah leaned in again, pulling her into his arms, his magnetic and deep voice mixed with laughter as he whispered in her ear, “I promise.”
The warmth of his breath fell on her neck. It tickled a little. Freya shrunk her neck and glared at him. Elijah looked at her slightly flushed face, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. He reached out and pinched her cheek.
Freya swatted his hand away. “Ouch.”
“Should I be gentler?” asked he.
“Don’t touch me.” Freya warned, “You’re teasing me, no sleeping on my bed tonight.”
The two of them teased and played, like a couple deeply in love. Elijah embraced her as they walked into a Chanel women’s clothing store. “Let’s go in and take a look.”
Freya held him back. “Never mind…”
“I’ll pay.” Elijah held her and walked in. He realized that they had been together for so long, but he hadn’t given her anything. He felt a little guilty.
His tone was solemn. “Whatever you like, we’ll buy it.”
Freya pursed her lips and snuggled closer to Elijah, feeling safer being closer to him. Elijah helped her pick out suitable clothes. At this moment, a salesperson approached them.
“The ones hanging here are for display. If you need anything, I can bring you new ones.”
Since being with Freya, her clothing style had always leaned towards casual and comfortable, with fewer fashionable items. But casual clothes suited her well, taking advantage of her youth and vitality; they made her look like a young girl who had just graduated from college.
Elijah picked out several pieces that suited her. Seeing a black and white checkered dress, he thought it would also suit Freya and said, “And this one too.”
The salesperson glanced at Freya and knew what size she wore. “I’ll bring the appropriate size for you. Please come inside and wait.”
There was a separate fitting room here, with a strong sense of privacy, and there were desserts prepared for guests inside. Elijah sat on the sofa while Freya went to try on the clothes. Elijah understood Freya very well and knew what suited her. The clothes he picked out looked great on Freya, and the size was just right.
The salesperson helped tidy up Freya’s collar and accidentally saw the scar on her face that extended to her neck, causing her to step back in surprise. Freya realized it and quickly covered her face. The salesperson reacted, “I’m sorry.”
Freya turned and went into the fitting room, changed back into her own clothes, and said, “Let’s go.”
She didn’t like her scars being seen by others. Neither did she want to scare anyone.
Elijah’s face darkened, and he gave the salesperson a cold glance, saying, “I’ll take all of these.”
The salesperson also knew that they had been rude and quickly went to fold and pack the clothes. Elijah knew that Freya wasn’t used to being looked at with strange eyes. So he paid and took her away. In a secluded spot, he held her in his arms. As he stroked her hair, he whispered softly, “It’s not ugly, don’t mind what others think.”
Freya replied calmly, “I just don’t want to scare people.”
Her family and friends were used to her appearance, and they didn’t look at her with strange eyes. But she knew that the scars on her face would startle anyone who saw them.
Elijah felt a pang of sympathy. “I’ll take you back home. I’ll arrange for Kai’s clothes to be taken care of.”
Freya nodded. What was supposed to be a pleasant outing suddenly lost its joy because of that salesperson’s reaction. It reminded Freya of her disfigured face, and she lost interest in shopping.
Elijah’s phone suddenly rang. It was the private detective with an update.
“I’ve traced the doctor’s whereabouts. If all goes well, I’ll find him in the next couple of days.”
Elijah’s jaw tightened.
“Let me know immediately if there’s any news.”
“Will do.”
Elijah hung up the phone, intending to share the information with Freya. But he noticed that Freya was staring off into the distance, lost in thought. He followed her gaze. And his expression changed instantly at the sight of someone nearby.
