The face above was so familiar. Freya also woke up. There was a hint of surprise in her eyes, “How did you get in?” She knew Elowen’s temper well. Now Elowen believed that Elijah had changed his mind. She wouldn’t let him into the house.
“You little troublemaker.”
His deep voice sounded like resentment and indulgence. Freya glared at him. Elijah’s gaze became serious, his finger lifted her rosy face, he leaned down, his lips landed on her forehead, her eyes, the tip of her nose, and finally, he couldn’t control the temptation any longer, kissing the soft parts he had been longing for. The kisses grew deeper and hotter. A hint of spring filled the air around them. Elijah’s breathing became heavy. Freya also gasped lightly from the kisses. It was about to escalate. At this critical moment, Elijah left her lips and lay down beside her. He was concerned about Freya’s current condition. So he didn’t dare to make any moves, even though he had physical needs at this moment.
Freya calmly took deep breaths, calming herself after the surge of emotions. She turned her head to look at Elijah, “Is everything resolved?”
Elijah also turned to her, their gazes meeting. “You’ll see the results tomorrow.”
Freya blinked, her naturally thick and curly eyelashes fluttered slightly, and slowly her gaze shifted upwards, looking at the ceiling.
“What are you thinking?” Elijah asked.
Freya sighed, “I’m just wondering why the human heart can be so treacherous.”
Elijah’s hand quietly moved closer, resting on top of hers, gently enveloping her soft hand in his palm.
“Don’t think too much.”
Human nature is inherently complex. There is a bright side, and there is a dark side.
Freya said, “I didn’t think much. People like that aren’t worth my thoughts!”
She nestled into Elijah’s embrace, “I’m tired.”
Elijah gently patted her back, “If you’re tired, then sleep.”
Freya snuggled up in his embrace and asked again, “You still haven’t said how you got in. My mom wouldn’t forgive you so quickly, right?” She looked up, waiting for Elijah’s answer.
Elijah lowered his gaze, “Your window wasn’t closed properly. Remember to close it properly when you sleep from now on.”
Freya turned around and looked at the window. There was indeed a slight gap in the window. She remembered that the window was closed properly, clearly someone had tampered with it. Under the moonlight, there seemed to be footprints on the desk.
“You climbed through the window? Wasn’t the security system here supposed to be strong?”
How was he able to easily climb through the window?
Elijah muttered, “They provided me with a ladder.”
Freya was at a loss for words. How could she forget? This place was arranged by Elijah, and the people guarding outside were also Elijah’s people. To be precise, Elijah was the owner here. If he wanted to come in, surely, he could.
Freya closed her eyes. “I’ll explain it to my mom tomorrow.” She didn’t want Elijah to keep climbing through the window. It made it seem like they were sneaking around.
Elijah held her and asked, “Does it seem like I’m here to have an affair with you?”
Freya lightly bit her lip, burying her face in Elijah’s chest, feeling a bit shy. Elijah liked her shy and innocent look. He held her even tighter. The two embraced each other and fell asleep.

In the morning, Elowen came to wake Freya up. As soon as the door opened, she saw two people lying in bed. Their embrace was still so intimate.
Was Freya once again deceived by Elijah?
Did she forget how she was kicked out before?
Why couldn’t she learn her lesson?
“Freya!” Elowen snapped loudly.
The two sleeping figures were startled awake. Freya hesitated for a moment, rubbing her eyes. “Mom…”
“Can’t you have a little self-respect? He doesn’t want you anymore, and yet you let him in. You…”
Elowen didn’t know what to say anymore.
Freya looked at Elijah. Elijah didn’t explain either, he just played dumb, covering his face with the blanket and leaving the mess for her to handle.
“Get up quickly!” Elowen glared at her daughter.
Freya knew she had to explain, otherwise Elowen wouldn’t calm down. She got out of bed, put on her slippers, and pulled Elowen out. Elowen couldn’t hold back. “He’s getting married to someone else, and you let him into your bed…”
Freya felt embarrassed and quickly interrupted her mother. “Mom, he didn’t betray me.”
Elowen stared at her. “Then what about that secretary who kicked you, me, and Kai out? Why are you still speaking up for him? I think he’s bewitched you!”
Freya didn’t react for a moment. She looked at Elowen blankly. “Bewitched?”
Elowen continued, “He may be good-looking, but you can’t let a face deceive you.”
It was now that Freya understood her mother’s meaning. She ran her hand through her hair and said, “Mom, I’m not obsessed with looks. I wasn’t deceived by his face. Kai’s illness was caused intentionally by that secretary. She had the medicine to save Kai, and Elijah had to agree to her conditions for Kai’s sake…”
“The medicine to treat Kai, wasn’t it developed by you and a team?” Elowen interrupted her, looking at her cautiously. “Have you really been bewitched?”
“No, Mom, he was threatened by Dina. It was all a charade.” Freya explained.
Linda also stepped in to persuade. “Sir is not that kind of person, and besides, you’ve spent time with him. How much does he love Kai? You must have seen it too.”
Elowen fell silent for a moment, recalling the patience and affection Elijah showed towards Kai when she lived in the villa to take care of him. He displayed all the emotions of a loving father.
“Mom, I’m not stupid. If he’s getting married to someone else, will I still want him?” Freya held onto Elowen’s arm, continuing to explain.
Elowen softened a bit. At that moment, the TV that was still on played a news report. It was about a fire. The place that was on fire was the villa Elijah bought specifically for “Freya.” Elowen widened her eyes.
“Mom, what’s wrong?” asked Freya.
Elowen stared at the TV screen and said, “It’s all because of you. We thought you were dead, and Elijah refused to bury you. He bought a villa and built a cold storage inside. How could it catch fire? It shouldn’t have happened.”
That place was quite cold, and the surroundings were not prone to fires. Even if there was a fire, it shouldn’t have spread so quickly. But the news showed a large fire. What puzzled Elowen even more was, “And it killed two people? There was only one person inside.”
Freya understood. Elijah said there would be results today. Those two bodies, one was a stand-in for her, and the other could be Dina.
Freya’s face didn’t show much emotion, just a faint coldness.
Dina brought this upon herself; she deserved such a fate.
Freya didn’t tell her mother about this matter involving Elijah, to spare her from unnecessary worry. She said, “Mom, stop watching. Kai should be waking up.”
Elowen made a sound of agreement, looking at her daughter, then at Linda. “Fine, maybe I misunderstood him. You’ve already given him two children. If he didn’t like you, he probably wouldn’t have had so many children with you. I’ll go check on Kai. You two should get up, Linda has prepared breakfast.”
Mentioning the child whose fate was uncertain, Freya’s thoughts instantly sank. Her face, however, didn’t show the slightest hint of it. But as she turned away from Elowen, a trace of sadness flickered in her eyes. She didn’t adjust her emotions and went into the bedroom. Elijah sat on the edge of the bed, buttoning his shirt. When Freya walked over and stood in front of him, he looked up and saw her pale face.
His heart tightened. “What’s wrong?”
