“You came at just the right time,” his thin lips parted.
Haley held onto a glimmer of hope in her heart. She slowly approached, forcing a smile on her face as she spoke to Orion, “Stephen Brown’s words were all lies, right?”
“He spoke the truth,” Orion coldly interrupted her. “Sign it.”
Haley’s head dropped. She saw the divorce agreement sitting on the table, the words glaring back at her. Her body wavered, unable to believe what she was seeing. She looked at Orion, her eyes filled with disbelief. “You want to divorce me?!”
As she spoke, she turned to look at Debra Russo, who had always supported her. She needed Debra Russo’s help. But Debra averted her gaze. She got up and left. She understood that her current son was not the same as before, when he let her manipulate him.
“Mom.” Haley still clung to hope as she called out to her. “Orion wants to divorce me. Aren’t you going to do something?”
Debra let out a sigh. “I can’t even protect myself now.”
Orion had made it clear that Luna’s death wouldn’t stop him from punishing her. The underlying message was that if Debra continued to interfere in his affairs, he wouldn’t hesitate to be ruthless. Even if she was Orion’s biological mother. Orion might even send her away. The current Orion couldn’t be offended, although he was her son. Orion no longer let himself be bound by the so-called family ties. He had grown up.
Debra felt a sense of relief in her heart. She hoped her son could stand on his own. If her son could become ruthless and control the entire Russo family, she would even be willing to die. As for Haley’s situation, she couldn’t do anything about it, so she went straight to her room.
…
Downstairs.
Haley couldn’t believe it and took two steps back.
Orion’s tone was indifferent. “If you sign it now, I’ll consider giving you some living expenses. If you insist on being stubborn, don’t blame me for not being polite.”
This “some” he mentioned was just a little.
Haley looked at his face, feeling like she didn’t recognize this man anymore. He had become so unfamiliar and heartless.
“You’ve changed,” Haley murmured.
Orion smirked. “Thanks to you.”
Haley calmed down. “You still hold a grudge about me cheating? But wasn’t it you who framed me?”
“I wouldn’t stoop to such things,” Orion’s gaze turned cold. “You deceived your parents, used my mother, and caused Luna’s death. You’re destined for a bad ending!”
“Luna?” Haley couldn’t accept that she had lost to someone who was already dead. “Luna, Luna, all you care about is Luna. She’s already dead!” Haley became hysterical. “No matter how you seek revenge, she won’t come back. Moreover, I’m the one to blame. If you have the guts, come after me, don’t involve my parents.”
Orion stared at her crazed appearance, suddenly stood up, and walked slowly towards her. “Your ruthlessness must come from your father, right? Neither of you are good people. He will spend the rest of his life in there.”
The reason the police issued the announcement so quickly was because they were investigating a corruption case that involved the official who once helped Ten Holt. Even if it wasn’t exposed on Orion’s side. Ten Holt had also been secretly investigated. The news that was leaked online undoubtedly provided the police with a lot of evidence, including eyewitnesses and physical evidence.
Haley still couldn’t give up. “Do you really have no feelings for me at all?”
Orion found it laughable.
“How could I have any feelings for you?” Orion spoke word by word. “I only feel disgust towards you!”
Haley was in a panic for a long time. Suddenly, she looked up and burst into laughter. She looed crazy and filled with resentment. “You want me to divorce you? You want freedom? I won’t, even if I die, I won’t divorce you!”
She laughed manically. “Divorce me? Do you want to go find that dead woman? Fine, go ahead and die too. Meet her in hell!”
Orion ignored her madness. “You no longer have the right to negotiate with me.”
Haley, used to being spoiled and never having suffered any losses, still couldn’t see the reality. She thought that with her parents and family background, she would always have a safety net.
“I may not have the right to negotiate, but I can tie you down and prevent you from being with that dead woman, even if it means you can’t have a legitimate relationship with her. I will hold onto my identity as your wife!” Haley said defiantly and turned to run out.
Running, crying, she didn’t know how long had passed. She got exhausted. Haley sat on a flower pot on the roadside, sobbing, wiping away her tears. She couldn’t accept or understand how she had ended up like this. After some time, she realized it was getting dark. She remembered her mother and hailed a taxi to go back home. But when she arrived, she found her house locked up, and her mother curled up on the roadside like a beggar. Gone was her mother’s former image as a noblewoman.
Haley ran over with concern. “Mom.”
Jessica saw her daughter as if she had found a lifeline, and quickly hugged her. “Are you okay?” She was worried that Haley wouldn’t be able to handle this situation because of Orion.
Haley took a moment to calm down and said, “Mom, I’m sorry. It’s because of me that Orion is doing this to us.”
Jessica had been holding onto a glimmer of hope, but now with what her daughter said, it confirmed that Orion was indeed involved in all of this. “It really is him, why is he so heartless, targeting our entire Holt family, getting your father arrested, and deceiving us of our assets?” Jessica’s eyes turned red.
Haley’s eyes were filled with coldness and resentment. “Mom, I won’t easily let him get away from me. Even if it means death, I will cling to him!”
Jessica looked at her daughter and asked, “Does it still make sense at this point?”
Wouldn’t it just make Orion hate her even more?
“He is so cruel to us because he wants freedom, right? Well, I won’t let him have it!” Haley declared. She wiped her face and helped her mother up. “Let’s find a place to stay for now. I still have some money on me.”
Jessica sighed and held onto her daughter’s hand. “I’ve been thrown out with nothing. How much money do you have?” She had to consider the future.
Haley fell silent for a moment. “Mom, don’t worry about it.” She didn’t have much money on her either. But she did have some jewelry and luxury items that could be sold for money. Haley had used to spending money extravagantly, booking her mother a good hotel that cost thousands of dollars for just one night. She also knew that money was crucial at this moment. So after arranging her mother, she planned to go back to Orion’s house to retrieve her belongings. However, when she arrived there, the servants blocked her at the door.
“I am Orion’s wife. How dare you stop me?” She was furious that she had only just fallen on hard times and these servants dared to bully her. She raised her hand to hit a servant, but her hand was grabbed by someone.
