Chapter 408 I Believe in You

“Secretary? How could it be her?” Freya couldn’t believe her ears.
If it was bought by Dina, then it wouldn’t be surprising if something went wrong. After all, she didn’t have good intentions.
Linda quickly told the truth, “When I went to ask the driver to buy the dog, the secretary overheard and said she would go instead. She claimed to know a lot about animals, and I thought she was always reliable, so, I agreed.”
Freya was really angry, but Linda had always taken care of her wholeheartedly, and this time, it wasn’t intentional. She tried to suppress her emotions, “Take the dog to the veterinary hospital now for a full-body check-up to see if there’s any illness.”
Linda, seeing how worried Freya was, asked, “Could the red bumps on Kai be related to the dog?”
Freya nodded, “Never mind, I’ll go with the driver.”
She was afraid that something else might happen in between. Before leaving, she instructed Elowen, “Mom, don’t go out.”
Elowen said, “Okay.”
Kai had developed bumps on his body and was feeling uncomfortable. Even he, who was usually well-behaved, was now acting up.

At the veterinary hospital.
After the dog’s full-body examination, the results showed that the dog carried a virus in its body.
Freya was stunned, “A virus?”
“Is it contagious upon contact?” she anxiously asked.
Kai had held the dog, and the dog had been in their home for a few days. The adults might have a good immune system and not experience any discomfort, but Kai’s appearance of red bumps was highly likely to be a sign of infection. Since the doctors at the veterinary hospital weren’t very knowledgeable about this, Freya asked, “Is there a better hospital where we can have the dog’s blood tested to determine what virus it is, whether it’s contagious, and how strong the contagion is?”
Freya understood that the veterinary hospital couldn’t determine the contagiousness of the virus, so she bought a dog cage from the hospital and put the dog in it, planning to take it to a specialized facility. On the way to the hospital, she dialed Elijah’s number. The call was quickly answered.
She urgently spoke, “Elijah.”
“Yeah?”
“If I say that Evan is behind this because of your secretary, would you believe me?”
“Yeah.” There was a low and somewhat suppressed voice on the other end.
Freya was too anxious to notice anything unusual or wonder why he remained so calm, without a hint of surprise.
“I mean, she wants to harm Kai, can you believe it?”
“Yes.”
Only then did Freya realize, “You believe it? Did you know the true nature of your secretary?”

KaiGenius Corporation.
Dina stood before Elijah’s desk at that moment. She held her head high, a rare display of confidence in front of Elijah.
“Your son’s illness, only I can save him,” Dina confessed, eyes gleaming with greed. “I like you, I’ve liked you for a long time. No, I should say I love you. I’ve loved you for a long time. I am the one who genuinely cares for you, Elijah. Freya, she is nothing more than the mother of your child. It’s not love you feel for her, it’s just a sense of responsibility because of Kai’s existence.”
Elijah remained expressionless. His gaze coldly fixated on her; the secretary’s betrayal was truly unexpected by Elijah.
“Why would you harm Evan? I recall he recommended you for the position of my secretary. Shouldn’t you be grateful to him?” Elijah deliberately asked.
He already knew the true nature of the secretary. Yet, he inquired about Evan. He wanted to know if Evan knew any of her other secrets, which would explain her need to silence him.
“I really liked the diamond jewelry you intended to give to Freya. I even imagined it was a gift for me. I tried it on, but Evan caught me. He sensed my intentions, and I was afraid he would expose me. So, I had to silence him forever.” Dina revealed, pausing for a moment. “Yes, he helped me in the past, and I am grateful. But he also became an obstacle for me. His hesitation and indecisiveness were fatal flaws. So, I had no choice but to act decisively and ensure his silence. Who would have known he would survive?”
“Since you didn’t want anyone to know your intentions, why are you no longer concealing them? If you are so confident, shouldn’t I be at your mercy?” Elijah leaned back, seemingly casual, but every nerve in his body was tense.
“I have been with you for so many years, I know you’re ruthless. But even if it’s me, I made thorough preparations,” she pursed her lips. “According to my original plan, I wouldn’t have executed it so early. But I discovered that Freya seemed to have discovered my secret. She had Orion hide Evan, as if she feared I would continue to harm him, to silence him. But that’s not what scares me the most. What forces me to act so quickly is Zane. I discovered him lurking in the shadows, threatening me. And he turns out to be Freya’s brother. Once Zane tells you that I harmed Evan, I will become vulnerable. So, I have to strike first. I know that if I hesitate and you find out first, it will be my demise.”
The current situation was probably what she desired. Fortunately, there was still time.
“Mr Silverton, your son’s life, as well as Zane’s, are in my hands. You can refuse my demands, but I assure you, you won’t find a way to save your son,” the secretary smiled. “I have followed you for so long, I know your methods too well. So, I’ve been cautious and put in a great deal of effort. I made sure you couldn’t obtain the antidote. The only way to save your son is to marry me.”
Elijah’s gaze grew darker, like a gathering storm. Even the secretary, who was prepared for his anger, had witnessed Elijah’s fury before. At this moment, she involuntarily took a step back.
Time rewound to the beginning.
Elijah’s phone rang. So, he believed everything Freya said. Because by now, Elijah knew Dina’s motives. When Freya asked, “Did you know the true nature of your secretary?” He gave an affirmative response.
Freya’s call confirmed the secretary’s words. Simultaneously, he learned that Dina had targeted Kai. Their younger child’s safety was still unknown. It had exhausted Elijah, and now the secretary dared to harm Kai.
Now, Elijah had only one thought–this woman must die.
He gripped the phone tightly. “Freya, let’s break up.”
Freya, sitting in the car on the other side, was shocked.
She was rendered speechless by the sudden turn of events.
“I will marry the secretary.”
Elijah’s voice brought Freya back to her senses.
Her mind raced, wondering if Dina used Kai’s situation to blackmail Elijah. Was he saying these things to her as a way to protect their son?
Freya lowered her voice, “Since the secretary targeted Kai, it’s unlikely that she will let us easily find a cure. I know that when you say this, it’s for the sake of saving Kai. I know what I need to do. I believe in you.”
Her voice was firm.
