The bodyguard gestured for the man to speak.
The man trembled as he spoke, “The person you… you had me track entered the residential complex.”
“Freya…” Elowen came out holding Kai, seeing the man on the roadside, she couldn’t help but exclaim.
The person on the other end of the phone seemed to have heard it and immediately hung up. Freya took the man’s phone and dialed again, but this time no one answered. She had alerted them.
“You must have a meeting place with them!” the bodyguard asked.
The man nodded, “Yes.”
The bodyguard said to Freya, “Let’s go there immediately. We might still be able to catch them.”
Freya nodded, “Okay.”
The bodyguard grabbed the man and shoved him into the car.
Elowen came over, seeing the bodyguard and the man, she asked, “Who are these people?”
Freya smiled and said, “Bodyguards arranged by Elijah.”
“Are they bad guys?” Elowen asked.
Freya said, “No.”
She didn’t want Elowen to worry or be concerned. In fact, Freya had no idea who sent that man to track her, what their purpose was, or why they were following her.
She reached out to hold Kai. And Kai actually reached back towards her.
Blood is thicker, after all.
Freya was thrilled and walked towards the residential complex, holding Kai.
Elowen said, “The puppy is back, but it seems like Kai doesn’t really like it.”
Freya was surprised, “Is it ugly?”
“No, I don’t know why, he just doesn’t like it. I think maybe it’s because it’s not the type of dog he likes. He prefers bigger ones, and this one is too small.”
Freya returned home and saw the little puppy with brown curly fur and round eyes. It was obediently lying there, very cute, perfect for keeping at home. They couldn’t have a large dog here, the house wasn’t big enough, and there was no separate yard. Even though they bought it, they couldn’t just throw it away, so she decided, “Let’s keep it in the house for now!”
Perhaps Kai would grow to like it over time, she thought.
…
In the evening, there was a knock on the door. Linda went to answer it.
It was the bodyguards, coming to report to Freya. Linda went to wake up Freya. Freya slept early and knew the bodyguards had returned, so she said, “Let them in.”
She got up and put on a coat. As she walked out, the two bodyguards were already in the living room.
“Did you find the person?” asked Freya.
“When we arrived, the person had already run away.”
Freya wasn’t surprised; that phone call had alerted the mastermind.
“It’s late today, you guys should rest.” Freya said.
The bodyguard didn’t ask if they should continue investigating. Their main task was to protect Freya’s safety, tracking and investigating were not their strong suits. After they left, Freya sat on the couch and didn’t immediately go back to her room. Suddenly, she couldn’t fall asleep. She straightened her clothes.
“Ma’am, go rest!” Linda said.
Freya got up. Back in her room, she saw the phone screen flashing on the table. She walked over and picked it up, seeing a message from Elijah, “Are you asleep?”
Freya replied, “Not yet, do you have any leads on that doctor?”
Elijah had not been sending her messages or calling, afraid that she would worry and ask about this matter. A private detective had taken on his case. But there was still no news.
Freya calmed down for a moment before sending another massage.
“Is everything going smoothly on your end?”
“Yes, I’ll be back in a couple of days.” Elijah replied.
The Lofic family’s matter would probably be settled tomorrow. Rod Lofic would become the next head of the Lofic family.
“Okay,” Freya replied with just one word, her gaze still fixed on the screen, and she typed a few more words, “Take care.”
“Okay.”
…
Both of them fell silent. After a while, Elijah sent a message, “Go to sleep.”
Freya sat down on the edge of the bed and put down her phone. She stared out the window absentmindedly.
…
Orion seemed to have matured overnight. He didn’t confront his mother head-on, nor did he insist on divorcing her. He understood that no matter how much he made a fuss when he didn’t have absolute control, it was useless. This marriage couldn’t be broken, and he would never know how Luna was killed. Therefore, he took the initiative to arrange a meeting with Haley’s father.
“Are you trying to convince me to agree to your divorce with Haley?” Ten Holt’s face looked very unpleasant.
Orion stood up and poured him a drink, “Regarding the divorce, I was indeed wrong. I sought you out to sincerely apologize for what happened that day.”
“You said Haley was having an affair, right?”
“I didn’t investigate it thoroughly.” Orion said.
Ten Holt was not in a good mood, “Have you ever seen someone accusing someone so wrongly? Haley married you, was it for climbing up the social ladder, or as a wife, is she inadequate?”
Orion lowered his head, his expression concealed, “She’s great, it’s me who’s not good enough.”
Seeing Orion hanging his head, seeming to genuinely know his mistake. His daughter did indeed like Orion, so Ten Holt didn’t continue making things difficult for Orion. After all, Orion had already apologized.
“I hope it never happens again.” Ten Holt said seriously.
Orion assured him repeatedly, “It definitely won’t.”
Ten Holt drank the glass of wine poured by Orion, considering it as his forgiveness. Orion knew that Ten Holt loved alcohol, so he picked up the bottle and continued pouring for him, “I know you like this brand of wine, I specifically prepared it for you.”
Ten Holt looked at him, “This brand of wine is not cheap, it costs at least a hundred thousand per bottle. Are you willing to spend that much?”
“You’re kidding, it’s my duty to show filial respect to you,” Orion poured himself a glass too, raised it, “Thank you for forgiving me and giving me a chance.”
Ten Holt clinked his glass with Orion’s, “Yeah, we don’t necessarily have to choose you, but Haley likes you. We can only go along with her. Orion, we only have one daughter, Haley. In the future, everything in the Holt family will be yours. I have no other requests, just hope that you will sincerely treat her well.”
“You can trust me.”
They both finished their drinks.
Orion continued pouring for him, “Thank you for entrusting your precious daughter to me.”
Ten Holt smiled, “You still have a conscience. Haley truly is my precious daughter.” He was in a good mood, accepting all the drinks poured by Orion without hesitation.
“I’ve never had a proper drink with you. Today, I will accompany you properly,” Orion opened another bottle.
“Good, such good wine must be enjoyed.” Ten Holt was getting a bit tipsy. Although he loved drinking, his tolerance was not high. This kind of wine itself had a high alcohol content.
Orion deliberately wanted to get him drunk, so he added something to the wine that would make him quickly enter a drunken state. And now, Ten Holt was already showing signs of confusion.
Orion set his phone to record mode and placed it aside. He continued pouring drinks for Ten Holt. “My mother said she killed Luna, do you know about this?” asked Orion.
